The Zacuto universal baseplate is being used with a Canon C300 MK III, and while it adds considerable weight, it functions quite well. The adjustable rod holder makes fitting a lens support an easy task and the baseplate is just all around easy to use.

Very nice baseplate. I use it for my c300 mark iii shoulder rig and it works very well when relocating the canon grip. I don't know what they use for that shoulder gel, but it is very comfortable :)

After trying a half-dozen shoulder rig plates, I picked up a VCT Pro plate (along with the Shorty Trigger Grips, also reviewed on that page) and fell in love. Got rid of my other brand shoulder rig items and switched fully to this Zacuto plate and handles. The shoulder padding isn't as thick as some other brands, however it is far more forgiving resulting in better actual comfort and support. Plus, it balances quite well on your shoulder. The proprietary plate I both like and dislike...on one hand, I don't like proprietary items forcing me into getting new tripod mounting plates and such; on the other hand, this plate's wide and long base is fantastic for setting down a large rig on a flat surface without worrying about it tipping over in any direction. I also wish there was a second rosette mount on the left (cheek) side on the baseplate, although I understand that it might get in the way and be uncomfortable for some operators. Most Zacuto dual-handle setups mount off the rods though, so no problem at all there. In comparison to the extreme comfort of the actual shoulder pad though, those minor complaints are exactly that: minor. Highly recommend this baseplate, and everyone I've let try mine out has loved it.

The best camera baseplate on the market!!! Easily adjustable for any camera + lens combination and the shoulder pad is very comfortable and form fitting. I highly recommend the Zacuto VCT Pro Baseplate!

I've been a Zacuto customer for years and a proud owner of the Original Zacuto VCT Baseplate. Using the VCT Pro next to the original is a night and day difference. The new model takes every great idea presented in the original VCT plate and makes it smoother, lighter, smaller, and just far more polished than the original standard. Zacuto has always been the best in the industry for American made engineering and machining. But this design takes the foibles of the old model (no built in quick release, threaded rear rods) and streamlines everything with the new ultra thin camera plate, and single rod lock for the front 15mm rods. The built in rosette mount makes mounting a trigger grip or extension arm for an FS7 incredibly quick and easy. You can trust Zacuto not just to make the best products in the industry, but to look for ways to step up their game and improve the best products in the industry.

Needed a professional upgrade from all the "jury rigging" I've had to do at past shoots. I was concerned about the cost, and had high expectations after reading many reviews of Zacuto products. They were all spot on. It looks great. It works perfectly with the universal VCT plate. And the flexibility to adjust to different cameras is huge, for that day I upgrade them. I couldn't have asked for more. Well worth the money.

Solid shoulder baseplate with an ergonomically functional build, but too heavy compared to other brands. Would prefer a less bulky and lightweight design. The red color is also a bit much for my taste. I’d still recommend for any professional looking for an ENG rig.

This is just a fantastic baseplate. The ability to easily adjust the camera plate for different lenses is fantastic and I love the space for accessories on the front. Zacuto did an amazing job designing this for multiple cameras, lenses and rig options. Very comfortable and well built.

I have purchased this product for use with Canon C100 Mark II and it really brings the camera to life for shoulder use. I have always been a fan of a more ENG style and the flexibility of this mount is incredible! I can mount almost any camera or lens combo and know I can adjust the positioning to make a balanced rig. The thing is heavy though but it just comes with being a very solid built piece that is very secure. Only slight area of improvement would be if the shoulder was shifted forward slightly. I have noticed with my particular lens setup and no rear battery, my follow focus mounts so close to the rod attachment that I had to flip the follow focus gear to the revers to give me enough clearance. This probably would not be an issue with a battery pack since that would allow the camera to be a little more forward with some weight behind the shoulder.

The VCT Pro Baseplate from Zacuto is solidly built, stable and feels great on my shoulder. This baseplate has an adjustable slide mechanism to balance your rig with, setting this correctly makes a huge improvement in comfort, weight distribution and balance over the FS7M2s built in shoulder pad. After spending considerable time reviewing all the options out there I am pleased with my choice, I can finally get my camera rig to balance comfortably on my shoulder. The shoulder rest is a very thick gel pad that is contoured to sit flat while shooting and reduce fatigue. All of the components used in the construction of the baseplate are well thought out and feel very well made. I especially like the red metal spring loaded ratcheting levers used throughout the design. Zacuto products are all metal and look great I can confirm they look just as good in person as they do in the product photos, the anodised aluminium black and red finish is smooth, shiny and made to last. Purchasing direct from Zacuto was easy, the customer service staff friendly and helpful. International shipping to Australia was very fast and only taking a few days! I can highly recommend the Zacuto VCT Pro Baseplate for professional use.

The VCT Pro Baseplate is an improvement on a great product, the classic VCT baseplate. Like the original, the VCT Pro is sturdy, with secure taps and a comfortable shoulder pad. I purchased the VCT Pro to pair with my Sony FS7M2, so the built in rosette makes mounting the FS7M2 grip a simple process. I do believe that an additional rosette on the opposite side of the baseplate would make for a more versatile piece of gear, but the lack of a second rosette has not hindered my work, as of yet. The most obvious addition to this model is the ability to adjust the position of the camera on the rig after you've attached the baseplate. I'm rarely satisfied with a rig's balance the first time I put it on my shoulder, so it's a major advantage to be able to quickly adjust the camera's position on the rig.

When my company recently purchased our Red Epic W, we needed a really solid and functional handheld rig. The VTC Baseplate is the starting point for any of Zacuto's handheld rig configurations, made for larger cameras. We found it to be exactly what we were looking for. It's a little heavy, but also super sturdy. It's very functional, with plenty of utility applications, and places to add accessories(rods, handles, and rosettes). The pad is comfortable, and the quick plate is super easy to use, really quick on and off. Overall, great place to start your rig.

We just finished our feature Piedra Sola in Argentina, and the VCT Pro was and incredible creative tool that allows to go from stick to hand held in just a few seconds. We worked with the Red Camera, and it was the first time felt i was able to counterweight Anamorphic lenses, and get the Camera almost behind my head, making it feel less heavy and under control. The Different positions allow you to readjust depending of the shot, and without even asking your AC to do it. I really recommend any professional filmmaker to try it!

The original VCT baseplate was great - versatile and comfortable. Recently I upgraded to the new VCT Pro baseplate and it blows its predecessor away. The ability to make small balance adjustments is great, it's lighter. The solid shoulder pad is even more comfortable. The rosette is perfect and switching the rear rods to a clamp is MUCH MUCH better than the screw on ones. I got the VCT dock for it as well and the ability to swap from a shoulder rig to a stripped down rig makes it invaluable.

This is excellent. I work with a lot of athletes and this makes swapping between shoulder mount and tripod work very quick and comfortable. The pad is great. The sliding mount is ideal for easy balance.

This baseplate makes it super easy to swap between a tripod and a shoulder mount. I shoot with a lot of athletes, and this speed of transition is incredibly helpful. The padding is really comfortable as well when in use. I use it with a Sony FS7. Be sure to get the viewfinder arms so you can position it properly.

Purchased with the intention of keeping on my RED Epic-W almost full-time. Seems to be well built and easy to assemble. Aesthetically, matches the RED nicely too! Looking forward to being able to attach a trigger grip to the rosette in due time.

Very Professional

Very good. Great customer support.
The VCT Pro Baseplate is a versatile and professional-grade accessory, designed to be compatible with a broad spectrum of cameras, including but not limited to Canon EOS C-series, Sony FS5 and FS7, AJA CION, BlackMagic, RED cameras, Arri Alexa and Amira, DSLRs, and Mirrorless models. This robust baseplate is equipped with a built-in, ergonomically curved shoulder pad and an Arri M6 rosette, making it an ideal platform for attaching a variety of accessories and grips.
The VCT Pro Baseplate features quick-release, extendable 6.5" rods at the front, and lightweight, spaced quick-release rod ports at the back, providing a sturdy and adaptable framework for your camera setup. The v-wedge tripod connector is designed for seamless compatibility with VCT14 tripod adapter plates, while the 1/4 20 and 3/8 16 screw holes allow for a direct connection to your tripod's quick-release plate.
One of the standout features of this baseplate is the red sliding top plate, which facilitates easy adjustments for lens changes, camera removal, and precise balancing of your rig on your shoulder. This sliding plate, in conjunction with a double screw track, offers a generous 10" of camera balance sliding range.
The VCT Pro Baseplate also boasts a Zacuto VCT Pro Dock, enabling you to swiftly release your camera from the rig and transition it to a tripod, slider, or other equipment. The lightweight, adjustable rod mount is strategically positioned far back in the plate, providing ample accessory-capable area under the camera lens. This thoughtful design allows you to position your camera further back on the plate, ensuring the balance point of your rig is directly over your shoulder.
The rod riser's sliding track offers 25mm of vertical adjustment, while the shoulder pad portion of the VCT Universal is set as far forward on the plate as possible to maximize your accessory capable rod area and aid with balance. As the core of Zacuto's Next Generation Recoil rigs, the VCT Universal Baseplate is designed for optimal balance and comfort, accommodating every camera type. The low-profile design of the VCT keeps tall cameras from being top-heavy, with a mere 3/4" distance from the bottom of your camera to your shoulder.
