Out of the box the bass needed a proper setup. The bass itself is good quality and fun to play. The amp is also solid but the strap is not very comfortable.

I've played guitar for about 25 years--just recreationally. I started doing some recording in a home studio, and decided I needed a bass so I didn't have to use a midi keyboard. haha Keep in mind this review is written by someone who was able to get this for about half the cost that it's going for currently. However, based on how I feel about the guitar, I doubt that would matter, as I would most likely pay the full price for this guitar. The finish on both the body and neck were top notch. No sharp frets. Knobs all turn smoothly. Packaging was fantastic--nothing was damaged upon delivery. Getting an amp with it, albeit a small practice amp, makes the deal a no brainer. Definitely recommend.

The neck was very bowed, had to tighten the truss rod a lot, which was difficult as it was almost stuck in place. Nearly stripped out the truss rod adjusting the neck. Action set very high at bridge as well. But now that I've got it set up correctly, it is a great sounding and playing bass, just don't expect to be able to open the box and start playing.

I will start this review by saying this is a great bass and it comes in a great pack as long as you don't pay full price on it. And I am not going to refer to this as a "beginner bass" or "beginner amp" as I think this depends on a lot of factors. Let's talk about the GOOD first. - The bass is solid, feels and plays well. Intonation was good out of the box. And I just had to raise the action a bit to make it playable. Frets are smooth. And it looks great. - The amp is also great. In fact, I had an older Rumble 15 here which was my first bass amp and I still use it a lot to play home. It's small but powerful enough to rumble! - Packaging was great. I was a bit worried how well I would receive the package with a guitar and an amp inside. Surprisingly enough, the package was extremely well designed. It was very sturdy and Adorama added an additional box to it. So I got a sturdy box inside another one. GOOD JOB! What's not so GREAT? - The guitar strap is CHEAP. I wouldn't say it's not usable, but definitely the worse part of the package. - The gig bag is not great, but it's usable. I mean, if you're taking your bass somewhere and you are taking good care of it, so padding is not required, this is OK. But I wouldn't take it to a gig as there's almost zero padding on it. If you check on YouTube you will see some PRO players using Squire basses. Once you do a good setup, it will sound and play great. You could even consider upgrading the pickups eventually to make it sound better. Yes, a Fender USA is definitely better, but it's not 10 times better than a Squier (although it does cost 10x more). Overall, I am happy with the purchase. It's not my first bass and it will not be the last one. And, although it was the cheapest one I bought, it definitely does not feel like a cheap instrument.

Came to my door well packaged and protected and everything was very nicely put together. The Bass itself looks great and I'm really enjoying it.
