Crafted from crystal-clear, water-white optical glass, each Schneider filter is diamond cut, then meticulously ground and polished to achieve precise flatness and plane-parallelism. This ensures an exact parallel relationship between the front and back filter surfaces, a feature verified by a laser interferometer. To guarantee perfection, each Schneider filter undergoes rigorous testing. A densitometer checks for consistent density, while a spectrophotometer ensures proper light transmission. Thanks to this ultra-high consistency, cinematographers can swap like filters mid-shoot without any discernible variation in color or effect. The unparalleled purity, color saturation, and repeatability of Schneider filters virtually eliminate the need for lab color timing correction. These filters are designed to withstand the most demanding conditions on set or location. Many are equipped with Schneider's specially formulated hard anti-reflective (AR) coating, which resists flaking, peeling, and scratching. This proprietary coating also reduces light loss and flare to less than 1% per surface, a significant improvement over untreated glass that has a light loss of 4% per surface.
