Plug and play; reasonable speed for size and price. Does not burn my memorex DL discs. It dies on the second layer. I need to find a brand of discs that works with it. Had no problem with single layer though. Also needs its own USB cable. I was swapping around cables for some external hard drives and I plugged the wrong USB cable back into it - the drive wouldn't read any discs. Not sure what is so special about the cable, but keep that in mind. Other than that, it's a lot cheaper than getting Apple's external drive for the newer iMacs.

Works properly with my Macs (OSX 10.6 thru 10.9). Even gets power from an older MacBook without issue. Only downside is the shiny "piano black" surface; to avoid fingerprints I simply left the thin plastic (factory applied) "skin" in place. I've bought a number of these units for clients who have moved to the newest Macs without built-in optical drives.
