Questions & Answers

Shopper : Will this drive fit into a brand new 15" Mac book pro laptop?NOEL A : Very likely that it will fit; but Macs are not very friendly for "do-it-yourself" upgrades. If you wanted to make upgrades easily, you should have bought a Windows PC. My recommendation is that you make the upgrade thru the Apple Store.ERIC P : Yes, I installed one myself in a new MacBook Pro and it fits perfectly.ROBERT V : I do not know about Macs, but i do know it is the size of standard laptop HDDs. It fit well in my Dell, but that is a Win-based machine and 17 inches too.HYO S : Every hardware can be changed model to model. But at least up to 2011's mac book has 2.5 inch HDD drive. Any 2.5 inch SSD will fit. So for latest your model, you need to check your model has 2.5 size ssd in it, so it's replaceable. Keep in mind, Mac book air doesn't have 2.5 size enclosure in it. To make it sharp, they use flat board type SSD which is not replaceable.
Mm M : I have two 2010 IMAC 27" i7 Lion computers. Is your drive fully compatible with the IMAC?AMARAT W : My computer is an i7 PC not IMAC. I am sorry I can't answer your question. As for the product, I am very happy with it.TIM K : I would assume yes; I installed it in my 2006 Core Duo MacBook Pro without issue. Just make sure you format the drive with Apples Disk Utility first.Weinin K : SATA is standard and it should work fine with your iMac PC, however please note that the SATA bandwidth is limited to 3.0Gbps (300MB/s) therefore by installing this drive you will be getting 300MB/s read but not 530MB/s as advertised.SAMUEL M : Not sure, my computer runs windowsRYAN C : Hey there, Yes this drive is fully compatible with the iMac, in fact you can head over to ifixit dot com to get detailed walk-throughs with pictures and sometimes video instructions for how to install this hard drive on your own. It would be very helpful for you to either make Time Machine backups or have your Mac OSX Installation disc handy when you are attempting to get this drive up and running. You can use a free software such as Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your existing OSX installation over to this new drive for free, and after the swap this new one would boot up as normal, however an insane amount faster than your old mechanical hard drive!
Shopper : Is this compatible with 2011 MacBook Pro?CHATCHARIN K : I replaced the drive on my original MacBook mid 2009 with this solid state drive. I imagine it will work fine on a newer model with better performance. Sorry that I cannot give you a difinative answer.Arthur S : It should work fine. Just do a little research on SSDs in general vs. regular hard drives. There is a finite amount of writes you can do on an SSD. Good luck.NICK C : Absolutely! You'll need to transfer the screws(Torx 6) over for it to sit in there nicely, but it definitely will.MARK G : Yes, no problem, it will make it MUCH faster. But, you need a PC to attach it to first if you want to update the drive's firmware. You may not need to do that, but I did. I got the "kit" version of this that comes with a USB to SATA cable, but you cannot use that to upgrade the firmware, only to transfer data.

Samsung Solid State Drive.

I have a 4 year old Toshiba 305 laptop with Vista which I had already upgraded to a 7200 RPM Seagate drive. My attempt to upgrade to Windows 7 ruined an entire weekend, ultimately failed, and I am told, resulted in disciplinary action on the Microsoft tech helper who could not make the upgrade work. I had a lot of programs on the drive for which I did not have the installation disks, so I did not want to do a clean install for 7. The main problem with Vista was the very slow start up time. It took 2 minutes 45 seconds to reach the log-on screen, even with the 7200 RPM drive. I shopped for a year before buying the Samsung. Searching on-line, the Samsung seemed to be the ONLY SSD that did not have frequent reports of blue screens and returns to the manufacturer. Also, my IT guy told me Samsung was the best, so when the price was right, I jumped. Well, I was very disappointed with the installation instructions. Basically, there were none. I looked at the Intel Web site for instructions installing their SSD, followed those instructions, and everything worked fine. I still had to do a lot experimenting inside the "Magic" program for wear leveling and optimization. When all was done, my time to log on was dropped only to 2 minutes, which is not much of an improvement. The big surprise is that applications just "pop" open almost instantly. Much faster than my Windows 7 quad core machine. Well, it has been less than a week, so reliability testing is yet to come. My main hope for faster start up was disappointing, but the way it opens applications is just astonishing-something I did not expect, but it does make this 4 year old Vista machine quite zippy.

Fast, low cost SSD

Didn't come with mounting bracket or transfer cable as shown in installation guide. Installation manual on CD was useless - you need to have cloned & installed an SSD before.

Solid Drive

So far this has been a great drive. I cannot speak to it's reliability at this point, but everything I have read would indicate that it should last. The only difficulty iI had was updating the firmware on a MacBook. It would be nice if Samsung made it a little easier for us Mac users.
