Does not support a wireless connection

I bought this player planning on using streaming services in an upstairs room. Unfortunately, this player requires a wired connection to access the internet. Online set up directions say differently which is very frustrating. Even worse, during the attempted set up it seems to have shorted out and will no longer even start up. A complete waste of money.

Love it!

Amazing Bluray Player already 2 yrs and a bit more. I highly recommend this one the colors, the features and the quality its great and for the price it's even more.

Occasional startup issues; No Hulu

I bought the unit several years ago, and it has functioned well for the most part. There are two issues. Since fairly early on, it occasionally refuses to power up, either by the remote or the unit power button. I have found that I have to unplug the unit, then plug it back in, and then it will start. More recently I got a message from Hulu that the unit would no longer be able to stream their service, as the operating system is too old. I'm not sure why the OS was not updated, bt it means I cannot use it for Hulu anymore.

Blue Ray What???

I can only play DVDs. IVE tried 50 different Blue ray discs and couldn't get 1 to play. I am beyond baffled and disappointed

TERRIBLE

It is March 3rd, 2019. This is the second time i’ve bought this blu-ray/dvd player. It’s only been since christmas. (2018). The first one didn’t work basically as i got it out of the box, this one lasted about 2 full freaking months. It freezes and then will not turn on. WASTE OF MONEY.

I’d rather no stars!

We have two of these one in bedroom and one in living room. The one in bedroom won’t play any disks at all, the one in living room plays one out of 5 or you have to keep trying. Both are less than 6 months old. Very very very disappointing!!!!!!!!! Guess I’ll have to switch to another brand!

works great, if you want low budget 3 in 1 device

Was gifted this product as a Christmas gift, it randomly stopped working about 3 weeks later. Item was exchanged as was purchased through a different outlet. The second product had the same problem about 2 weeks after I received it. I decided to try tech support to see if something could be done. Turns out this is a known issue, and you have to unplug it for about a minute for a hard restart. After plugging it back in, unit works fine. Just be ware, if it happens. Tech support says it should not happen again. Additional items to note: like others have said, product does not come with any support cables (HDMI or Ethernet) and it does require both to work; there are no component cable ports either; there are no lights on the unit, so identifying if it is on or off is difficult. Lastly if you have other products plugged into you system, this unit seems to prioritize itself, have had several instances when the TV "on it's own" and switched back to the blu-ray player. I had to disconnect either the Ethernet or power to use the other platform in my system.

Great for the price but sorts audio tracks wrong

Its a great device for the price but it sorts audio tracks alphabetically instead of by track number??? I downloaded the software update but it will does the same. This is an easy fix and should be addressed for a five-star rating.

Product upgrade

I bought this product brand-new from an electronics store to replace another Samsung device I owned for four years. It provides features not on the other device, such as up-convert for older DVD's as well as support for other disc formats. It's the perfect compliment to my home theatre system and should serve my needs for the next several years.

Remote is poor, operation is slow.

I have used Samsung products for over 10 years and found them to be of good quality. Bought this Blue Ray to replace an older Samsung Blue Ray that was doing random shut downs. The remote would not work unless you were right next to it, and only once in a while. Had to manually turn on the blue ray and use a Samsung TV remote to control.

Garbage product and garbage support

worked fine for bluray but wouldn't connect to the internet. said http port blocked. Every other device worked fine on that port. Called samsung they said i should pay a technician to look at it.

Great alternative to a Smart TV

I love being able to stream my favorite shows on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. with my current TV. My roommates had an Apple TV but when I moved I got this Smart DVD player. It does everything I need and was cheaper than buying an Apple TV. Plus it plays DVD/Blu-ray's. No major issues in the 2.5 years I've had it.

Don’t buy

Came with no cords. It’s not wireless so buy an ether before you leave the store if you choose to buy this piece of garbage. Apps do not work, I wish I would have read the reviews before I bought. I’ve spent hours/days trying to get this thing to work. And the customer service and website are impossible. I tried to do chat help and told to do a service order to get he machine( I just bought NEW) fixed. So I start filling it out and won’t send so I try and go to just send a simple email and again something goes wrong and I have to start over! I can’t waste one more second trying to figure this out! Do not buy!

2 years old & it quit streaming

I contacted support 5/4/17 & we tried to up date the software on line it said we had the latest version. then support sent me the info to put on a usb to load into the unit. that worked & said I still had the latest version when I tried the second time. the unit was pixeling the audio. gave up & went to best buy & bought a new one, working fine so far!!

WIRED ONLY

Nowhere on the box does this product mention that it can be connected to a network via a WIRED network only. Why in this day in age would they even develop a product like this!?!

Great Performing Blu-Ray player at any price !

I can't get over this Blu-Ray player, Especially at this price! I don't stream anything with it, but it's over all performance of playing back Blu-Rays or DVDs are impeccable! I purchased it last August. It hasn't given me any problems and I've played it a lot. I really can' discern any real difference between the playback quality(both audio and video of Blu-Ray or DVD Discs. It really up scales DVD Discs to were they have Blu-Ray Quality and I certainly would notice a difference if there was a difference between the two! I personally don't mind the fact that it doesn't have an on/off led indicator light. I get around that by turning it on when I have the TV on and have the HDMI port that pertains to the Blu-Ray player, and shut it off by stopping it at the end of the movie and then pushing the power on/off button to off. I know that your 4K Blu-Ray Player got Top Picks by Sound And vision Magazine! If the Blu-Ray player I have is any indicator it is no wonder that it did ! Keep up the good work Samsung. Excellent product, mine broke after 15 months

Excellent product; however, it stopped working after 15 months of very light use. Not sure about replacing it with another.

Samsung BD-J5100 Blu-Ray Disc / DVD Player

Very compact design with over 250 built-in apps makes this a great little Blu-Ray and DVD Player! It does everything it should do without a bunch of extra (and often unnecessary bells-and-whistles. Plays a large variety of the most popular audio, video and photo formats. This model does not have Bluetooth or Wi-Fi capability, but still a very nice unit for the price. Well satisfied!

This product is very sensitive

This product will not work with every high speed HDMI cable. Purchased 12 of them and had trouble with 11.

Decent DVD player

Works great with my new Samsung 65" curved TV. I do not like that there is no indicator light. Seems like a simple omission. Otherwise it's just fine. Nothing special.

This player is just okay

It works okay, but for some unknown reason it doesn't light up to let you know it's on...never seen that before. Also, who makes a smart player that doesn't have wifi? Bought this for my wife for Christmas to go with the Samsung tv and soundbar subwoofer combo. We liked the other two products but found ourselves underwhelmed with this player.

I bought this unit for a great price at BJ's Warehouse Club. Brought it home and after going out for an HDMI cable connected it and WOW. What a great picture. 2 minutes to hook up.
