Only worked for 2 years

although this was great while it worked i expect samsung products to last longer than two years that cost over three hundred dollars. like many others have posted before me, the unit unexpectidly stopped playing audio. i reset the unit, checked the wires, tested the speakers and only the front left speaker will generate feedback noise when testing. when attempting to update my unit it says i am not connected to the internet, but succesful when testing my network connection using the built in network tester. i am concerned, because i have other samsung products like my fridge that was $3,200 as well as an oven and microwave. will those crap out too?

Menu started looping with no fix

no sound from my tv, after 3 yrs homepage starting looping. menu at tv just appear for 1 sec and then disappear, and message at ht just display loading / no disc, dvd not in use. cannot reset since menu is on a loop, doesn't stay up long enough to do a factory reset (with disc or without, with usb same). unplugged system, pressed reject or stop for couple of secs as a default factory reset, no luck.

HT-J5500W Power Cycle Problems Make Useless

do not buy this unit. there are more than 100 consumer complaints on their customer care site about a glitch that started around 6/17/2020. no patch or fix offered so far.

Dont waste you money

at first i was pleased with this and thought we had received a good deal as it was on sale at best buy. we have had this for a little over a year now and of course it breaks bc it only has a year warranty. it was working fine and all of a sudden it just turns on and off over. and over until you unplug it. called customer support just to be told sounds like its time for a new one. im sorry a 300+ dollar syatem should last longer then a year. really disappointed in samsung as i own many other appliances from them. may have to reconsider my future purchases.

System stopped working after update

i have one, left rear speaker has funny clicking noise, since day one, but no massmart had a new one so i couldn't exchange it. now it just keep rebooting since 20 june 2020. seems like it is a global bug, and it is taking over the forums

I value nothing from this inferior product

received as an xmas gift in 2019....6 months later the sub-woofer stops working .... no bottom at all when watching shows and especially when viewing dvds. dolby 5.1 audio is based on substantial lower end frequencies. that's how they mix it so you get that extra oomph during dramatic action sequences or even softer musical scores which try to use the full sonic range. now the viewing experience is really diminished. not worth having....don't buy this system.!!

Great while it worked

Worked great for about a year, then the center speaker started cutting in and out. The rear speakers started randomly disconnecting, and my Samsung smart TV would stop connecting to it, I would have to factory reset it every time for it to work. I really want a new system but I am waiting for a 4k DVD surround system. I am surprised Samsung has not put one out yet.

Most Horrible Product I ever purchased

This theatre system is the worst purchase I ever made. It hasn’t worked properly since I’ve put it up. I had to call tech support day 1 and I’m just over it. I will purchase a Polk speaker to replace this garbage. I haven’t had it 2 months yet and I’m over it!!!

Great Price!

This Home Theater is so easy to set up and use. It turned my five-year old flatscreen into a smart TV with aps like YouTube, Amazon, Netflix, and others. My Blue-Ray DVD's have never looked or sounded better! I'm so happy with this purchase.

Not A Quality Product!!!!

Just over 2 years and the fan is no good so the unit will not stay turned on. I contacted Samsung and was told I had to pay $80 to ship it to them so they could look at it. I would have to pay more money to have them replace the fan, do a hard upgrade and then send it back to me. I was also rudely told I could take the unit somewhere else and get it fixed, then hung up on. I bought a Sony Surround 6 CD Player in 2001 and to this day it works great. I thought I was upgrading to the Samsung Blu-ray 3D Player to have the ability to watch movies on Net Flix. While the sound comes out nicely on the front speakers, after adjusting and adjusting the rear speakers still do not work properly. While Sony is more expensive, their products last so much longer and without issues!!!!!

Disappointed

Just purchased yesterday. Struggled setting components up. Followed directions carefully and can only get sound out of center, left, and subwoofer speakers. Wireless speakers do not work nor does the right speaker.

It doesn't connect to other Samsung Electronics.

I've had a terrible time connecting to my other Samsung Electronics. Every TV that I Connect it to will not work. I've tried every method. I can get the sound to work via analog wires and digital, but no sound for XBOX or Cox Cable via DVR. It won't connect via Bluetooth. I've since replaced it in my lineup with a Onkyo receiver. Night and day. The Onkyo is a godsend. It works with any device on my LAN. I can control any sound from any room. I've converted everything to Onkyo and just bought separate Blu-ray players. I've tried multiple Samsung sound bars, receivers, Blu-ray players and came to this conclusion. I will use Samsung TVs forever, but I will never purchase any sound/audio products from Samsung ever. They just don't get it. Even on my phone and tablet it's as if they don't even care about the audio. I don't get it. They should team up with an audio manufacturer like Mercedes does. It works very well. I hope they try wake this seriously. I don't write reviews. This is my 3rd review ever (over 40 years. Let's hope that they try harder and focus resources on teaming up with audio manufacturers (Bose, Harmon Kardon, Onkyo, Klipsch, Polk Audio) and take a page from Mercedes. Teamwork works well and creates the best audio experience.

WORST WEDDING GIFT!

I purchased this unit for my husband for a wedding gift. It has been the worst purchase ever! Just as it nears the 1 yr mark the blueray stopped working, it still plays regular movies but not blueray! So last night we tried watching a show on Hulu and for some reason the screen had blue static or blue static shadow!! Haven't contacted Samsung as I have read all the other reviews and know that it will be a complete waste of time to try and get help resolving or getting it fixed. DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG!

Many Features, but Compromises Are Noticeable

The system packs a lot of features in one package, and the sound quality is surprisingly good for the price. The best feature is the "wireless" rear speakers that must by connected to a powered remote amp that wirelessly picks up the rear signals from the front unit. This arrangement allows more freedom in placing the rear speakers out of sight. At this bargain price, however, the seldom mentioned compromises are noticeable: 1) the DVD/BD player sounds like a coffee grinder when it opens up, closes, and starts the disc rotating: 2) the internal fan cooling the amp is noisy and audible when the amplified sound level is low. One annoyance is that attempting to play a CD or DVD-Audio disc automatically turns the TV monitor on if the two are connected by the HDMI ARC cable. Even trying to get the FM tuner to operate will turn on the TV if the user is not quick enough on the remote. (The instructions on programming the FM tuner are very badly written and out of order. It will take experimentation and patience to get that to work.) All in all, the system is worth the effort because it offers quite good sound for a price around that of a single decent rear speaker from most other companies.

Superior sound.....great value!

I bought this system to match my Samsung 65" curve TV. The sound is loud, clean, and simple to adjust. Easy to install. The wireless rear speakers are a real plus. Still playing with the various features....

Opera not app store

So Opera has been changed to Vewd and no one seems to be aware. Called SAmsung tech support and they never heard about this. Even this website has wrong info.
