This camera is frustrating to own. Not because its completely awful, but because it has amazing quality and bad management software. It would be 5 stars if I didn't have the problems I'm mentioning. The video quality of the camera is amazing and I have no problems with it. Its the horrible app, software, and management of the camera itself. Despite having the motion detection sensitivity down to 1, the camera will pick up shadow shifts and wind movement from trees on the ground. The end result is a nonstop barrage of false alarm texts and email notifications. In the daytime it was enough to have Google temporarily suspend my email account due to the volume up snapshots sent to the address. Another random issue that I'll get from time to time is at night time the camera just freaks out for no reason and keeps sending notification event alarms. Even with no wind or movement on screen. I've stared out my window at 3am and didn't see anything. I've watched through the live feed and didn't see anything either. Its almost as if the camera retains old movement detection areas despite having cleared them. Its happened twice now. The fix I had to do was completely disable the movement detection and then re configure the detection zones. This tends to resolve the issue. Occasionally you'll get locked out of the samsungsmartcam.com webpage or phone app as well. An error message stating "Access has failed. Please try again in a moment (simultaneous connection/network unstable)" will appear and you won't be able to view anything. My home connection is a 300MB broadband connection and the camera is hardwired. Running speed tests conforms that there is no drop in my connection. If you are connected remotely and get this error the only thing you can do is reset the camera settings back to default. At which point you'll have to set your time and date and other settings because saving a profile isn't possible. If it happens and you're near the base station, just unplug it and then plug it back in. The problem goes away after the reboot. If you're on a computer you can only connect to the samsungsmartcam webapage via Internet Explorer or Safari. Yes, you read that right. The app is ok, but its very slow to connect and switch between options. Regarding accessories, there is a speaker and a mic port, Samsung does not mention which products to use or how to use them. Its a good camera overall, but the random issues I mentioned are infuriating to deal with. I wanted a camera I didn't have to constantly micro-manage. I shouldn't have to constantly login in and set zone detection areas based on the position of the sun because the camera wants to report every shadow.

I purchase two of these cameras for home on year ago, i have sometimes, problems with connectivity but not that often, the quality of the video is great, the zoom work like charm is good, you can identify persons and car brands (no plates) from where they are located 25 feet away from the street , night vision has a straight light so you see the person or object clear, if is in front of the camera (night time). at the beginning i have problems with the recording files, but now the override feature go over the old recordings on the 32 GB card for months, very sensitive with the rain, something missing is the microphone

I'm always amazed when good hardware is let down by poor software. Overall I'd buy this again, but mainly because I have a history of buying terrible alternatives. The hardware is great, I love the small external camera made possible by the internal box. The local SD card ensures you don't miss anything, even if your broadband is down. Great that you can view the clips remotely from your phone on the app. The main gripe is the app is so slow 'connecting' (whatever it's actually doing - I've 250mb broadband). Another is you get an alert every night when it switches from day mode to night / IR, annoying. But also it alerts constantly when I'm in my garden. I guess it makes sense but realistically it's so annoying I may have to disable alerts. It could avoid this by not alerting me on my phone when my phone (and me) are at home. I don't want the Samsung server tracking me constantly, but my phone could suppress alerts when I'm at home. These improvements would convert me from relatively happy to an advocate! C'mon Samsung!

By far the easiest camera I have ever set up. From out of the box to mounted on the wall i only spent 15 minutes.

I had purchased this camera last week and was able to find time to setup this week. Once you open the box, plug in the power supply and the LAN from the camera to the base unit, you will wait about 1-2 minutes for the sync. Setup was very easy in less than 6 minutes and the image quality is excellent. I have a super high speed (>50mbs internet so I do not see any delay in projecting the video on my Ipad, Iphone or surface via the Samsung app. I am planning to buy a few more for my house.

I've had this camera for over a year now, and I'm very disappointed that Samsung hasn't updated their software or firmware. The camera MUST be rebooted about every 30 days or you cannot view the recorded video. This requires that you unplug the main unit that plugs into the 110v outlet and then let it restart & reconnect with the wireless modem. Impossible to do remotely so the camera is USELESS when I'm out of town, which is when I need it most! Come on Samsung, get it together!

This camera is a snap to setup and with its free mobile app can be viewed on your mobile device from anywhere. Very nice image quality, with only a slight delay in its delivery on remote viewing. The setup and install of this camera was easier than deciding where to mount it. Skeptical at first, I found I liked it enough to purchase a second one.

Terrible is the first word that comes to mind. The product itself isn't the problem, its the terrible software/firmware. The product doesn't provide good reliable basic features that actually work well. The motion detection is terrible, so you will get hundreds of e-mails or alerts on your phone every few hours for outside cameras, even if you have it on the lowest detection settings. It doesn't actually send you a link to a video clip when it detects something, so what's the point of sending an alert? You can't actually see the clip, but you log into live view after the fact? Again, what's the point. If you want to simply log-in and see a live view of what's going on, then this camera system is great, but if you expect features that work seamlessly and provide items that make sense, like a picture or video clip sent to your phone or tablet, then you will be disappointed. I have three outdoor SmartCams and I may yank them all down and start over with another brand at some point. I am hoping for software upgrades and features that make since. I strongly recommend against buying this product at this point. Run away fast unless you have money to burn and only want a live view. There is no useable built in speaker, but a speaker plug and microphone plug to add after market stuff.

Great camera but with some really bad design considerations. The camera SD playback is can only be viewed with MS IE. Google Chrome and Firefox do not work! This means your mobile Android device, i.e. Samsung Galaxy S4, can only view real time video. To view recorded video you have to remove the SD card to watch it on your phone. Although the camera comes with a 26 ft LAN cable the wi-fi box is very limited in range. If less than two bars the video begins to suffer, i.e. reduced resolution. My experience for adequate signal was about 20 feet from my router on a stick house. Night vision is great, Lens wide angle causes fish eye distortion which is quite noticeable if viewing more than 25 foot range. Biggest disappointment is the required IE to view recorded video.

1080p Full HD Video Quality
The SmartCam HD Outdoor Wi-Fi IP camera's 1/2.8-inch CMOS sensor processes existing light to render vibrant colors and vivid details in 1080p Full HD on your computer and desktop. Streaming in up to 720p to your smart device, the SmartCam Outdoor ensures that facial features and fine points won't go unnoticed. You'll know at a glance if your son's science project was a hit.
IP66 Weather-Resistant Camera
Rain? Wind? The SmartCam Outdoor's performance in stormy weather will blow you away. With the IP66 weather-resistant rating, you can rest assured that this camera has been rigorously tested to withstand heat, cold, dust, wind and rain. So, although Mother Nature and Old Man Winter are welcome to make a cameo appearance in your video, they won't get to play the villains with your camera!
Dual-Component Design
Samsung engineering maximizes the functional placement of this two-unit design. While the weather-resistant camera is placed outside, the indoor power/Wi-Fi module stays closer to the router for a strong signal. The camera and power/Wi-Fi components are connected with a simple cord which allows a small, discrete camera profile and eliminates the need for an outdoor electrical outlet.
Motion Detection
Movement often signals that something in the camera's view needs your attention. The SmartCam HD Outdoor can be custom set to the level of event sensitivity you prefer for triggering alerts. Maybe you want to know when a car comes into the driveway or when the neighborhood lacrosse game crosses into your crocuses.
Motion Zone Select
Motion Zone Select further fine-tunes what you want the camera to pay attention to. If a driveway gate is your area of interest, simply draw a box around it on your screen and the camera will alert you when someone comes or goes. You can select up to three motion zones in the camera's field of view.
microSD Memory Card Slot
The SmartCam HD Outdoor provides a local storage solution, recording video directly onto a microSD memory card with up to 32GB capacity. Set your camera for continuous recording or, to minimize viewing time and storage space, for recording only when motion events are detected. The saved video can be remotely viewed from any computer or Android or iOS device.
Email and Mobile Notification
With the Samsung SmartCam HD Outdoor camera, you always know what is going on, even if you're behind closed doors or out of town. You can set your camera for instant email alerts and push notifications to your smart device whenever significant motion is detected - and monitor the event in real time while it is automatically recorded onto a microSDHC memory card. Bringing your safety to the forefront, Samsung empowers you to respond instantly to unexpected events and review stored recordings.
Ultra-Wide Angle
If no one's allowed in the pool while you're away, seeing only part of it could send you off the deep end. Samsung's 128deg. Ultra-Wide Angle lens lets you dive into the whole scene - expanding your recording coverage without compromising quality.
True Day Night
The SmartCam HD Outdoor features an advanced IR Cut Filter for accurate, vibrant colors and a Night Vision mode to capture clear, illuminated footage up to 50 feet. That means you'll know at a glance if the midnight bandit on the deck has two feet or four.
Samsung Light Enhancer (SLE)
It's probably just the squeaky swing set creaking in the nighttime breeze, but you only have to check your smartphone to be sure. The SmartCam HD Outdoor camera is equipped to enrich available light in dark areas, providing superior image detail in even the most challenging low light conditions.
