Previous binoculars from Nikon, Marine 7X50. Commander looks better due to best in class quality and design. A lot of fun using it during my ride on Lake Ontario today.

The Steiner Commander XP 7x30 compass is without doubt another milestone in marine binocular. Extremely large for the compact class, the compass is an easy match for other 7x50 binocular, is extremely stabilized and ensures accurate bearings. With their excellent optical characteristics and a full range of features, the binocular can do everything required for safe navigation.
A new high definition, broad band optical formula that features record setting light transmission for times in the dark and clear, sharp, high contrast and comfortable images in daylight. In addition to the XP Optics, is a new high-tech optical coating on both the objective and eyepieces called "NANO Protection".
This new coating repels water and moisture off the lenses leaving them clear of water or moisture. Like windshield wipers for your binocular, you won't ever have to wipe them clean of moisture. The secret lies in a unique permanent molecular bonding substance that makes the lenses so smooth, that absolutely nothing adheres to them. It is the perfect companion for people who make stringent demands on their marine binocular but, at the same time, are unwilling to do without the benefits of compact dimensions.
