Would Recommend

Fantastic binos. I was slightly skeptical about the auto focusing technology. Works beautifully. I used them recently on a herd of deer in a meadow near my house and the deer stuck out noticeably so. Super happy with these. Seem very well built and durable.

Great pair of close-range binos

Just got these as a replacement for the nearly 20yo Predators that quickly became a necessity in my deer hunting arsenal. After surviving 3 tree stand falls during that time, I finally managed to break them at the hinge by improperly storing them in my pack. The image was still crystal clear through both reticles but after a (successful season of using one as monocular and realizing the limitations I decided to send them in to see what Steiner would do. Considering they were well outside the original warranty I was satisfied with getting roughly half what I paid for them toward the updated pair, particularly since these came with the new lifetime warranty. From my recollection the new 8x30 AF's don't seem to be much of an improvement over my old Predator's visual clarity or brightness, but I couldn't have been happier with the image quality of my old pair so no complaints there. I think what I love most about the updated pair is the open center hinge that allows me to hold them more securely at the center with one hand. I commonly found myself doing this with my old pair to reduce the shake that tends to show up holding them on one side after a long day of still hunting, it just feels a lot more natural with these. I would not say these are a "do everything" pair of binoculars, but rather ones perfectly suited for a specific task. I have a pair of 12x50's setup for quick connect to a tripod and just as I would never use those in heavier cover, the 8x30 Predators are not ideal for wide open spaces and long distance due to the lower magnification and smaller objective. Though if you're looking for a pair to pick apart thickets inside 150 yards that's light in the hand, easy to use while loaded down with gear and exceptionally clear I have yet to find any I'd rather be carrying.

Simply the best

I LOVE optics. Some girls like diamonds. Some girls like shoes. I like glass. I own several Steiner rifle scopes. I decided if the binoculars are even close to the rifle scopes in quality, I need them. I purchased the Predator AF 8x30. Now I did not need yet ANOTHER pair of binoculars. But the price was right. The quality blew me away. These are the best x50 or under binoculars I have EVER used. The contrast and the clarity are worth MUCH more than I paid. Glass is my thing. Theses binoculars (you will never see me use binos) rock my world.

EXCELLENT HIGH END BINOS

I purchased my PREDATOR AF 8X30 from Amazon and they are amazing for my intended purpose of bird and scenery watching. Very well made and sturdy. However, Im skeptical these we made Germany because nowhere on the box, literature or binoculars does it say where they were made. Actually on the box itself there is a little sticker saying Burris company. I suspect these were produced under license by Burris in China and marketed as a STEINER model, which is fine since they were affordable and well made. I could be wrong however. If somebody from STEINER or an industry expert knows for certain if the Predator AF 8x30 are indeed manufactured in Germany please chime in.

The clarity is striking!

I just got them, and wow.. Never have I had the clarity of these. I've had bushnell, celestron and vortex. Now, I'll have Steiner forever, these have far exceeded what I expected.

Bright, Clear Optics/FOV As My 7X50c Commander

The features in a replacement hunting binocular for my 37 year old 7X50c Commander that I?ve used on nineteen hunting trips were: high durability, high clarity, auto-focus, lighter weight, smaller dimensions. These features were to be sacrificed for the 7X50c Commander?s compass, mil scale and larger field of view (FOV). Upon comparison, the new 8X30 Predator AF FOV and low light clarity seemed as much as my larger binocular. The smaller dimension and lighter weight permits storage with a range finder in a cover harness that is equal to the weight of the 7X50/harness. Lighter, smaller packages are important attributes highly appreciated by senior hunters during long 13 hour days stalking through rugged terrain. The 8X30 Predator AF is a cost effective solution for hunters desiring an auto-focus binocular having durable, lightweight, bright/clear prey contrasting view, dimensions fitting within binocular cover chest harness. This binocular exceeded my expectations as a replacement for my old 7X50c Commander.

Nice medium size binoculars with unique coatings

I purchased the 8X30 Predator AF with the CAT coatings, it was the advertised CAT coatings that made me want these. Along with the individual focus feature of the eyepieces...no center focus wheel for these binoculars I get so tired of constantly rotating that center focus on other binoculars. As for these, I took them out and dialed in the individual diopters on my land. Here is what I found: 1) these things are lightweight and feel good in your hands, 2) they also feel durable...rugged feeling for binoculars, 3) the coatings are kinda wild looking, the coatings are real green...very unique looking glass, 4) the view thru these is unique I found that using these over around 500 to 600 yards of open pasture these are no better or worse than another pair of excellent condition 8X30 binoculars. HOWEVER, when I switched over to scanning the thick, heavy woods on my property where I hunt deer, these 8X30 Predator AF's with CAT coatings are basically a totally different type of binocular. Using them to view thickly wooded terrain, I can pick stuff out more easily deep in the forest than with "regular" 8X30s with regular coatings. I assume it has to be the advertised CAT coatings. I cant wait to try these out come spring and summer when the leaves are out on the trees and there is heavy green on my farm.

Targeted for hunting enthusiasts, Steiner Predator AF is both lightweight and super sharp. CAT (Color-Adjusted Transmission) lens coatings help in defining game even in failing light or shade or when obscured by vegetation. A unique feature of these optics is the ability to set the focus for each eyepiece without the need to constantly readjust focus when the hunter or quarry moves. This design also does away with the need for a bridge, which further contributes to the binocular's lightness, in addition to allowing a greater surface area for a better grip. Constructed of impact-resistant Makrolon polycarbonate, Predator AF is coated with NBR synthetic rubber armor for comfortable and secure handling even in the cold or rain.

Optical Performance
• Powerful 8x magnification with comfortable exit pupil
• Small form factor for lightness and all day comfort
• Porro prism yields a more robust depth of field

Use and Handling
• Individual eyepiece focusing
• Supports single time initial individual focus adjustment per user

• Rugged build with Impact-resistant Makrolon polycarbonate chassis that also resists temperature induced expansion common to metal
• BR synthetic rubber armor resists grease and chemical adhesion while making for a more comfortable grip
