Great Product for Intended Use

Needed to add a 20 Pin internal USB header to an Asus Z890M board for a 54 in 1 device on a Windows 11 Pro OS. Didn't need SATA power for good results. Unit worked perfectly with OS WHQL drivers. Took longer to unbox unit than to install. Highly recommend.

The most compatible USB 2.0 card

This card is the best pick when installing Windows 98 on modern hardware. Also works great in Windows 11, my expensive Razer mouse is hooked-up to this card so I can use it in Windows 98 and Windows 11 in a dual boot configuration.

Works fine, on PCIe2 x 4 channels is 1 GB transfer

4 PCIE-2 x 4 supports the card with an external, self-powered 4-port USB 3.2 hub just fine, and one front panel USB 3.0 port. The card also has a SATA power connector attached. No dropouts, no compatibility issues with an old Intel Server board running Windows 10. Just works.

Great for external DAC

After installing it instead of motherboard's USB ports - there are stops any lags or music distortion while ASIO streaming. Very clear strong sound stream without artefacts. Really huge improvement for my SCHIIT MODI MULTIBIT.

Detects as USB Type-C & Requires SATA power cable

I bought this because I needed to have an internal USB-A port that was inaccessible to users. But on every boot there is a POST error indicating "USB Type-C Card Detection Error" and that "cable is required between 12C on card and USB-C on the motherboard"... but this isn't a Type-C card (its type-A). The computer and port work fine once you continue past the error screen & reboot again. The only extra port on it is the SATA power cable. So when I get one of those I'll update to see if that fixes it.

Wont work in Dell Servers

Trying to use for USB 3.1 drive dock on a backup server. The card needs power, no power leads on most Dell servers for aux power to pcie cards. The Startech USB 3.0 pcie card did not need aux power if the drive was independently powered. Request a 3.1 card that does not need aux power, even if that violates the 3.1 standard.

Exactly what we we're needing

I am one of the " IT " guys Orthopedic Appliance Company here in Asheville NC. Our Dell server has those 2.0 USB ports. Backups being that they are encrypted we're taking 8hrs+/-. Even though backup we're scheduled after hours, it would run into the following day by a few hrs. Ordered the 3.0+ Pcie add-on card, and now complete backups are taking less than 5 and are completed before the staff returned the following morning and are able to be more productive because the local server isn't being bogged down from backups running?. 18 staff members running pervasive database applications along with remote desktop really put a strain on Everything. Best money spent.

mostly works

The Technical Specifications are poorly written. This is physically an x4 PCie card, but it is electrically PCIe 2.0 x2. Startech should update all their PCIe card Technical Specifications with specific information like that instead of the vague and useless info currently provided. The problem with x2 is that some old computer chipsets or CPUs may treat that as x1 which would half the performance, or quarter the performance if it is a PCIe 1.0 slot. You can find other cards that use a switch chip (x4 upstream) to connect both USB and eSATA. Such a card will perform better in a x4 PCIe 1.0 slot or a slot that does not support x2. The ASM 1142 chip has a problem where it reports the connection status of my device as 5Gb/sec instead of 10 Gb/sec but the device transfers data at faster than 5 Gb/sec anyway. Sometimes I have to reconnect the device if it reports as 480 Mb/sec (USB 2.0). USB 3.1 gen 2 from an Intel Thunderbolt 3 chip does not have those problems but no-one makes a USB PCIe card using that chip.

Great feature if I can get it to work

I wanted to add USB 3 to my HP Z800 with Win 7 Pro 64 bit but it is not working correctly. Confused as it should straight out of the box.

Enhance your computer's connectivity and performance with the 2 Port PCI Express SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Card with UASP Support. This robust and reliable expansion card provides your PC with one internal and one external USB 3.0 port, enabling you to connect a wide range of devices for lightning-fast data transfer speeds. With its durable construction and compact design, this user-friendly card fits seamlessly into a PCI Express slot, instantly upgrading your system's capabilities.

The card features a native NEC PCI Express host controller chipset, ensuring high-speed data transfers with the USB 3.0 standard, which supports rates of up to 5Gbps. This is a tenfold increase over USB 2.0's 480Mbps and a significant leap from USB 1.1's 12Mbps. The backward compatibility ensures that your older devices will still work smoothly, while the internal USB 3.0 connection offers versatility for internal storage solutions or front-bay hubs.

UASP support elevates this card's performance further, allowing for up to 70% faster transfer speeds when paired with UASP-enabled enclosures, compared to traditional USB 3.0. This efficiency is achieved by optimizing transfer commands, reducing wait times significantly for data transfers. The optional SATA power connector is a testament to the card's user-friendly design, providing up to 900mA of power per port for bus-powered USB 3.0 devices, ensuring reliable performance even for power-hungry devices.

Fully compliant with USB 3.0 revision 1.0 and Intel XHCI rev0.96 specifications, this card is also PCI Express 2.0 compliant. It supports all USB transfer speeds, including Super Speed (5Gbps), High Speed (480Mbps), Full Speed (12Mbps), and Low Speed (1.5Mbps), and is hot-swapping and plug-and-play compliant. The card also adheres to the PCI Bus Power Management Interface Specification revision 1.2 and fully supports Control, Bulk, Interrupt, and Isochronous Transfer types.

With UASP support for Windows 8, Server 2012, and Linux kernel 2.6.3 or later, the card's performance is further enhanced, showing a significant reduction in processor resources required during peak performance. This makes the 2 Port PCI Express SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Card with UASP Support a versatile and efficient solution for connecting a variety of USB 3.0 peripherals, from external hard drives to audio/video devices, ensuring swift and reliable data transfer for your computing needs.
