I disagree that this product cannot cause problems for HDD. I had one that repeatedly locked up while trying to transfer a 2.7TB data set to an 8TB and 12TB HDD. The result of the lockup is remapped sectors reported in SMART statistics. This happened with both drives, both of which performed the same operation on another system without difficulty. Further, if I bypass the tray and connect directly to the HDD (same SATA cable and power connector) the operation completes without difficulty. OK for small file transfers but bad news for large transfers.

The product is as defined, it works great with any of the various brands of SATA HDD's. I have it installed in an older HP 6000 Pro Core 2 Duo, E7600, however I can not determine where to connect the Tray lite. Unfortunately, the bezel lite on the case is module that does not match the tray cable.

This device is designed for 11mm drives and probably works well with them. However when attempting to put thinner drives in as all modern drives are, the mechanism jams up and drive gets wedged inside. Attempting to remove the drive involves damaging the enclosure ( not the SSD fortunately ) beyond repair. This drive thickness limitation was not made clear in the sales information.

I have been using this rack for well over a year and it has worked great for me. Easy to install and use, I have built computers and RAID for a few years now and I have 2 of these and plan on getting more. I am a electrical contractor and I do not give high praise alot but I do on this one. If you have any trouble with this I would say check other components first. I use a lot of startech products and I have No problem with any.

This is very low quality product, I bought 4 units, two simply stop working and the other two work erratically. And it seems these are damaging the harddisks

As a reseller, I am concerned mainly by two things, the first is to receive a good quality items corresponding exactly to the description and the second to receive them fast !

Just installed and using it in minutes. It's standard StarTech construction, which is better than most generic equipment but down a grade from a factory HP or Dell item. Only beef is that the insertion rating is listed at 50,000 on the website but only 10,000 in the manual. At one insertion per week that's a difference of 700 years, I'm not happy!
