What happened??

This docking station was great for two years - it was noticed that past month or two that the switch on the side was becoming unresponsive - I've updated the firmware/hard power cycle/unplugged everything, and now the power doesn't come on - very disappointing especial learning that it does have the capability to run dual monitors since im in the market for one -be careful with this one.

Unreliable

Worked great for 2.5 months then for no discernible reason stopped. Monitors either wouldn't work or would stay on until I tried to use them, then they stopped. Power flowed unreliably. Devices wouldn't stay connected. Updating the drivers only seemed to make it worse. After updating, the monitors wouldn't even turn on, and the only peripheral that worked was my mouse. 2nd Laptop couldn't even detect the docking station. No trouble-shooting steps seemed to help at all. Very disappointing

Good but not perfect

The good: It's very convenient in a world where working from home happens often to be able to connect my work laptop without having to juggle cables from my pc. Switching is smooth. Image quality is fine. The bad. My biggest issue is with keyboards. On multiple windows pc's I have an issue with keys sometimes repeating or the keyboard not responding. I thought it was an issue with my laptop until I connected another windows PC with the same issue. I haven't found the cause yet. After updating all USB firmware and drivers I can. get my hands on and tinkering with keyboard repeat times I've given up and put the keyboard directly in my work laptop. My mac mini doesn't have the issue. One quality of life improvement that could be made is that the virtual LAN adapter stays active on the PC that's not selected at that moment. Currently I can't start a download on my home pc and then switch to work while it continues. Another detail is that to get my mac out of sleep mode I need to reset the docking station now and then. But all in all, it's one of the better solutions for what I need.

Bad lagging with new logitech wireless keyboard

I am experiencing bad lagging with the new logitech wireless keyboard and mouse and the plantronics usb headphones. They all work well when connected to USB on laptop but not through the USB on the docking station.

As advertised, zero problems

Reading some of the problems others have had, I was unsure how reliable this station would be. After nearly a year with zero problems, I am delighted with this product. I have 2 Dell XPS laptops, a Dell widescreen monitor (DisplayPort), Canon scanner, desktop speakers, Gigabit LAN, and Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. I switch between the two laptops a few times each day, it takes about 5 seconds, and it has worked flawlessly every time. I have two requests for future models - a front panel USB location for wireless keyboard/mouse receiver (I use the side located USB currently), and a digital audio output.

Works great if you know what you are doing and the

I use this with a Lenovo and Dell notebook. i work for 2 companies and need to switch between the 2 laptops all the time. i got 2 x Asus screens connected with a Razer keyboard and Roccat Mouse and it works like a dream. what you need to understand is that this is a Dock with a KVM function where it allows all peripherals to switch from 1 PC to another. so when you switch from 1 device to another, it disconnects all the devices from 1 device and connects it to the other device. so if you are using a hardwired network cable and still need the disconnected device to work, its best to connect via Wifi

Works without a hitch

I bought this in April 2019 to facilitate switching between my personal desktop and my work laptop, with dual 27" monitors. I have plugged every peripheral I have into the dock and have not had a problem - very much recommend this product.

Great dual laptop docking station (KVM switch)

This product solved a number of technical issues I was encountering! It works great: I push one button to swap which laptop is connected to my peripherals.

Warning - not a very good KVM

When switching between computers the windows on the desktop get moved and resized, every time I switch between machines I need to rearrange my desktop. Tech support says it is the fault of DisplayLink and nothing can be done to fix it.

It works as advertised...about 75% of the time. Otherwise, the mouse and/or keyboard will inexplicably not transfer to the intended computer. If this device cost, say $30 that would be acceptable. But almost $300? Ridiculous for the price.

Unable to use keyboard or mouse as it is jumpy

I bought this a few months ago but have not been able to use this for a couple of reasons. 1) the keyboard and mouse in unusable due to it jumping 2) i need to remove the ability to transfer documents and the embedded drive as it is against my corporate policy

3 years and still love it

This is a great KVM/Dock combination. I telecommute and use 1 port of the KVM for my work laptop dock and the 2nd KVM port for my personal PC.

Works as Described - Great Product

I have been casually looking for a solution to connect my work laptop to my dual monitor setup at home that is connected to a desktop for a while but hadn't found one. Now, forced to work from home for two months, I needed a solution and the USBDDOCKFT is it. The installation instructions were easy to follow and the docking station works like a charm. When I push the button on the docking station to switch between computers, the transition occurs in a few seconds and everything works like it's supposed to. The only hiccup in the process was the need to get IT support from work to install the driver on my work laptop. Great product, would recommend.

Solid Performance & Reliable

I use this product every day to switch between my home computer and my work laptop with a single button touch. If you are doing standard work stuff, some light coding and occasional gaming, it's a perfectly simple way to not have to constantly switch cables around and use 2 computers with one docking station

Works as expected

Brought this week to be able to switch easily between my home Windows desktop and my work Macbook. Did have some issues with the windows PC lagging but that was due to the fact that the BIOS was converting USB3.0 ports to 2.0.

Very expensive paperweight

I purchased this mid last year hoping to use between two laptops, two hdmi monitors ann single keyboard and mouse. both laptops are dell. This will come online and then immediately be disallowed by the corp setup. My only thought is because of the file sharing, which cannot be disabled. too bad

How to...

After making a couple of moves, the cables that 3.0 USB Host cables are missing and may never be found I am trying to connect a Dell XPS13 9360 to a Planar PXL 2760MW. However, I can't find any reference on the StarTech website nor on the Internet what cables are needed or a simple diagram showing how to make this very expense docking station work

LAN loss when switching between 2 hosts

when switching from desktop host to laptop host and back to desktop host - the LAN fails with "cable is not connected". also, when booting the desktop the LAN fails with the same above error. using the startech power switch (off<->on) several times eventually brings the LAN but only till the next host-switch or desktop boot. LAN can be restored by playing with the windows driver enable<->disable several times (again temporary solution). the desktop is an I7 intel based chipset with windows10 OS. the onboard LAN is disabled at the BIOS. USB is configured with "no selective USB" power option (as suggested)

Worked for the first couple of days

Well I have 2 monitors and 2 laptops. setup the device and I was able to switch between my work laptop (dell lattitude) and my personal laptop (acer). But now when I switch to my work laptop the 2 monitors do not come on. I have uninstalled the drivers and the software that gets installed on my work laptop but no luck. I have only had this product for about a week now.

Does what I needed

I've been using this product for almost 3 years. I allows me to switch between my company laptop and client laptop an leverage my two large monitors and peripherals for both. My company recently upgraded us to surface pros and happily the SP setup took less than 5 minutes. The only issue i've had a few times is getting my logitech usb mouse to work properly....but upgrading the mouse software seemed to do the trick.

Nice docking station, KVM less so

Just got this set up with two Lenovo laptops, and two Dell monitors. The video quality is fine, though I haven't tried any sort of gaming or videos. There is no perceptible lag in display or mouse function. The laptop screens run at native resolution, and each of my two monitors run at their native 1920x1600. The network driver works, as do the USB ports. Where it gets weird is when you switch from one laptop to the other. The KVM function here drops the network, USB devices, and monitor connections from the laptop that isn't being viewed. Most KVMs make all connected computers think that their peripherals are still attached, even the computer(s) that aren't selected. This one doesn't. So if you're streaming music, or doing some sort of network application when you switch away from a laptop, that stops working, as the network connection goes away. Plus, the de-selected laptop reconfigures its display setup back to its native display. When you switch back, it again reconfigures back to multiple displays. This isn't a deal-breaker, as both laptops can use wifi, so I don't need the ethernet. That solves the dropped network problem. And the dropped monitor thing just costs a few moments while the laptops reconfigure, but this could be seen as a feature, not a bug. It's actually nice to have all apps visible on the laptop display when the other laptop is using the monitors.

Works great on my two Dell laptops!

I have a 2014 Dell XPS L702x home laptop running Windows 7 and a 2018 Dell work laptop running Windows 10. I have Bose speakers plugged into the audio jack, a USB plantronics headset, USB Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro, USB Razer Lachesis mouse, and a 2018 32" monitor. Everything works with no issues!

Frustrating screen flicker

Have tried two different monitors and the common factor between both of them when they start turning pink or flickering is the docking station. Directly connected to the laptop and there are no issues. Connecting thru this docking station and the issue starts. Looking for something different now to replace this. So frustrating!!

It works so well. Don't know why it's so hard to find.

This KVM docking station for two laptops is the first of its kind. It functions similar to a KVM switch, letting you share your keyboard, video and mouse between two computers. Plus, it provides dual-monitor outputs, so you can add two extra displays to your workstation and then share them with each laptop. This dock eliminates the frustrations of working with multiple computers. You can save money and desk space by using the same peripheral set with each computer, plus you can easily transfer files between your two laptops.

• Works like a KVM switch, but with less clutter and the added benefit of offering extra dual-monitor outputs
• Create a dual-laptop workstation that can share up to nine devices using a range of ports, such as dual displays (DP and HDMI), five USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet and headset
• Transfer and share data between your laptops at up to 5Gbps throughput - supports Windows and Mac
• Supports DisplayPort plus HDMI dual video or a single DP display at 4K Ultra HD resolutions (3840 x 2160p)
• Always-on USB fast-charge port charges devices without a laptop connection and supports USB Battery Charging Specification 1.2
• Side-panel 3.5mm 4-position TRRS headset port (audio plus microphone)
• Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 Port with Wake-on-LAN (WOL) support
• Easy-access button to switch control between laptops
• Integrated security lock
• Supports DisplayPort 1.2
• Small and flat footprint provides an elevated typing surface when tucked under your laptop
• Includes two USB 3.0 host cables

It's a simple yet ultra-efficient method for working with more than one laptop. The dual-monitor KVM dock supports Windows or Mac laptops or a combination of both. And for a faster workflow and additional convenience, this specialty docking station lets you share and exchange data between your two computers. It's perfect for a range of users such as professionals and office workers with multiple laptops, students and IT technicians. It's ideal for collaboration in classrooms, labs and boardrooms, as well as many other specialized applications.

Shared docking revolutionizes the way you work
This cutting-edge docking station is designed for users with multiple laptops or Windows based tablets. Like a KVM switch, it lets you share your peripherals between two computers, with the added benefit of offering extra monitor connections. With shared docking you can get more work done in less time and avoid the nuisance of plugging and unplugging your laptops while you're using them both at your workstation.

When you're in a hurry, switching control to either computer is effortless using the switch button that's conveniently located on the side of the dock. You can create a dual-monitor workstation that connects with two laptops if you have DisplayPort and HDMI displays, making it easy to display applications or browsers from either laptop. Alternatively the dock supports a single 4K DP monitor, for 4K x 2K (3840 x 2160p - 30Hz) cinema-quality resolution and vivid picture quality.

Plenty of ports gives you everything you need
In addition to connecting two laptops, this full-featured KVM dock lets you connect up to nine peripherals and provides all the ports you need. And, with five USB 3.0 ports you can connect more USB devices than most docking stations allow. Plus, every port can be easily shared between each connected laptop. It's easy to charge your mobile device quickly using the always-on fast-charge port.

With several USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet and a headset jack, you can connect multiple peripherals and control them from either laptop. Unlike some docks, this easy-to-use docking station offers seamless, error-free driver installation which makes it easy to create a dynamic and high-performance workstation.

Direct file sharing between laptops makes life easier
For an uninterrupted workflow and streamlined convenience this dock integrates file sharing capabilities. Laptop-to-laptop file sharing is faster, more secure and easier to use than cloud or external storage solutions, plus, you can skip the aggravation of configuring your network to support file sharing. Using Windows Easy Transfer or the included PCLinq software, you can easily create files and presentations on your primary laptop and quickly transfer them to your portable Ultrabook, MacBook or tablet. Plus, with two laptops connected to just one dock, the file sharing dock makes it easy to collaborate with colleagues or classmates.

The built-in file transfer software is easy to use and data transfers are lightning quick, using USB 3.0 technology. (USB 3.0 is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1 - 5Gbps.) The unique file exchange technology creates endless application possibilities and the dock especially caters to developers, as well as network and systems administrators. The USB3DDOCKFT is backed by a StarTech 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Applications
• Save money, time and space by using just one workstation for two computers - just like a KVM switch, but with less cable clutter
• Deploy in classrooms, computer labs, boardrooms and other areas where one workstation is used by multiple users or multiple laptops
• Expand the connectivity of your laptop D12- compatible with Ultrabook, MacBook, Microsoft Surface Pro 3, Lenovo Yoga and other Windows based tablets
• Ideal for users with multiple devices such as software and hardware developers, programmers, IT administrators

Note:

1. A 4K-capable DisplayPort display is required to achieve 4KX2K resolutions
2. If connected to a USB 2.0 host port or if using a USB 2.0 host connection cable, performance may be limited (USB 3.0 host cables included)
3. USB 3.0 is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1; this connectivity standard offers speeds up to 5Gbps
4. PCLinq can be used in any operating system that the dock supports. Windows Easy Transfer can only be used in Windows 8.1, 8 and 7
