I really wanted this to work because I need multiple powered ports. But every Windows 10 and 11 computer I tried showed Generic USB hubs that were unrecognized and didn't work. StarTech says no drivers needed, and I'm computer savvy but could not get this hub to work.

The AC adapter to usage in the US apparently not working. I bought on Amazon and will return. Is there anything to do? Seems like it is the adapter.

Very reliable and the trim design, extra length of cord improves accessibility.

At about its 8 month birthday this unit stopped working. Mac Mini M1 doesn't "see" any of the items plugged into the hub. The corresponding light comes on for each but is not recognized. Can't bring myself to give this product anything but a poor grade.

I bought it last year, with a metal case for inclusion in my equipment rack. It is just unreliable. For no good reason, a USB to serial port adapter stopped operating. This happened to a earlier one as well. Then two other devices that have been working for months stopped. They work fine plugged directly into the computer. Providing 12V power doesn't help. It has been an exercise in frustration.

I bought this hub a little shy of a year ago. Worked great up until yesterday. Now only two ports work. Spent big money to avoid this but too bad.

Plugged the unit in and hit the power button - a couple of the lights flashed blue then went dead. the 2.5amp power sockets dont charge any devices the 7 usb3 ports do not work or recognise any devices that work in other units. No blue power lights on device - unsure if device dead or power supply. product was going to be used to charge a tablet and mobile phone and support several usb devices - nothing too over the top but it just doesnt work. Unsure if defective product or just a poor device.

I bought this USB hub because my Dell XPS 15 9510 computer and connected Dell DA310 hub were limited on the number of USB A connectors. I have had many problems with non Dell hubs so I was wary. The speed performance I obtained with San Disk keys and Seagate drives was great, in the 100 to 300 Mbs range no problem. The little blue LEDs which only light up when a USB key is connected and active are really useful. The quality of the product is excellent. So when my Logitech mouse started lagging and my Logitech keyboard started missing/repeating characters I was very disappointed - these are problems I had already experienced with non Dell hubs. But the I found the solution! The Logitech unifying receiver was plugged into the second Dell DA310 USB A connector, I moved the unifying receiver into port 1 of the StarTech hub and bingo all was solved. No more mouse lag, no more keyboard errors, even when simultaneously coping multiple Gigabyte files between a San Disk key and two Seagate USB drives. Thank you StarTech, my review is definitely 5 star for this superb product.

I bought this product and no power is getting to the device. I tried the USB ports on my PC, and they are all good. I plugged in the USB devices one at a time -- no power is reaching the device. I'd like my money back.

You can put a hard drive in fine. But apparently, it's picky about what devices it passes, even with the power supply.

This is the coolest little gadget to have on hand, especially now that laptops only have one or two USB ports installed. I really like that it connects to a chord extending from my laptop because I wore out three USB ports on my last laptop with the heavy use I forced it to endure. I love the way it connects to my laptop because it allows me to keep it out of my way and safe from me bumping it, causing me to damage the USB ports.

I bought this to extend my USB port for my mouse and keyboard. My keyboard went insane. No keystrokes. Delayed keystrokes. Repeated keystrokes. I ended up having to plug in my keyboard directly to my PC. Even though the mouse was fine, I bought a USB extender and plugged my mouse into the PC as well. Going to try gaming controllers and USB thumb drives so I can use this for 50% of intended usage. If I get a new keyboard, I'll try again, but the K840 is a killer keyboard, so it's going to be a while.

This hub was fine for weeks but now it keeps dying on me. Once a day the connection to it basically resets. Quite annoying. Startech gets 2 stars instead of 1 for allowing reviews on their site.

I bought this to use as an all-in-one power supply & hub for an ultra low power Raspberry Pi 4 based server/NAS/DVR. During set up I noticed that one of the charge ports felt a bit loose (i.e. the USB plug felt a bit wobbly when plugged in), though it did still seem to work. As I only needed one of the charging ports (to power the Pi) I just used the other socket which felt more solid. Then two 2.5" USB hard drives as well as a USB-powered TBS DVB tuner were connected to the hub. Everything worked perfectly for just under 4 months, and then everything suddenly stopped working. My voltmeter revealed that the power supply had failed. I cannot tell if the hub or power supply was the root cause of the failure, the wobbly port could possibly have been a symptom of some internal damage. In any case it has now been returned to the retailer and with the refund I have just bought a smaller Startech USB 3 hub (HB30A3A1CST) and a separate power supply for the Pi, which overall works out a bit cheaper, but with less room for expansion. I thought my original plan was a neat solution that minimised power adaptors and offered me plenty of future expansion options. I don't believe anything was being used incorrectly. The overall max power consumption of this system (would have been about 22W, which given the 48W power supply should have been no trouble). Also note that I'm aware the Raspberry Pi 4 spec sheet states that: "A good quality 2.5A power supply can be used if downstream USB peripherals consume less than 500mA in total", but given that in my setup the hub was providing all the power for the downstream peripherals, a 2.4A supply should also have been plenty.

It works but it is advertised incorrectly. I purchased this model of hub because the pictures show that it does not have a block adapter. A block adapter does not fit into my baby proofing cover. I was very disappointed when I opened the box and found a large block adapter. I was really annoyed when the retailer I purchased it from refused to allow me to return it.

This USB Product seems well built, works great right out of the box! My last hub, by another manufacturer, had all the hubs crap out one at a time over a couple years time.

I'm always hesitant to write a review the first week I use a produce, because of course, that's not gonna show us if it will hold up or not. However, I'm so jazzed that everything works I just couldn't wait to share that. I've got 5 things plugged into it right now, 2 Glyph hard drives, 2 passport drives and my TP-LINK router for internet. I also have the main USB from the hub, plugged into my laptop "docking station", and it's still picking everything up on the hub. Usually I have one passport drive that won't light up right away, but I just unplug and re-plug it and it's recognized right away. Marc.

Purchased a couple of months ago have just tried to hook up. Apparently someone had this before and it didn't work for them as it had several loose plugs in the box and 0 instructions. Terrible repackaging. No plug works with unit and does not get power. Now I cannot seem to find the box it came in. I will find it but either way I'll never make another purchase fro Dell. A shame as it's all I've used since 2004.

I needed something that was smart enough to handle memory sticks, hard drives, mice, keyboards and cell phone simultaneously. Other products I tried would not allow my laptop to properly I.D. the devices plugged in - this one does. Two (minor drawbacks: it is difficult to tell when it is on or off unless something is already plugged into it, the slots on the back for wall mounting only allow a horizontal mounting position.

i needed to increase the number of USB 3 ports on a desktop computer that is dedicated to image processing. The expansion port had to be robust and easy to plug in and out several external hard drives and cameras. The StarTech is well-designed, has a good footprint, and can be strategically placed on my layout. The unit is plugged into an external power source; the specs suggest this but specify that the external power source is not a requirement for operation. i have not tried this configuration. Plugging in/out a connection is easy, even side-by-side ports. LED lights confirm each connection. I leave connected two camera cords since seven ports are available. It's nice when apiece of equipment actually works as specified.

Nice USB 3 Hub with Power source
By CARLOS D.
So far, so good with this hub. I always use it with the external power adapter (included). No issues connecting several devices at once. Provides plenty of power, even for two external hard drives, two thumb drives and card reader all connected at the same time. Note that the hub is fairly 'large' - but that is a good thing, plenty of space between the ports. Plastic case but solid-built.
Fixed my problems

I was having a problem with some of my equipment dropping out on my Telescope Imaging System. Particularly my CCD camera. By installing this StarTech hub, 90% of the problem was solved. It was recommended to me by a friend who also uses them for his set-up.
