Review Summary

I had left a negative review previously due to this products lack of support for an advertised feature and then especially for the support I got talking to a tech support person in their online chat support. I still believe that the product is not supported in the way I said before but someone did reach out to me and did a much better job trying to help me. They genuinely tried to help and even offered me a totally separate product free out of their test lab that they had sitting around. I had allready moved on to a different solution and declined the new card but the sentiment and time taken in a couple email exchanges did a lot of make me feel better even if the feature on my card is still unsupported without purchasing a secondary card that acts as an intermediary between the sata port and the 5 sata drives. My original card said it could do that with no mention of extra boards being necessary. I'm going to attribute this to simply a bad manual and over-site by the people writing not being knowledgeable about the product. anyways... thank you Stacey Chudobiak for reaching back out to me and making the effort to truly help me.

I have used this card and in a straight forward application of using a couple m2 sata cards even as boot drive it worked well. However I then needed to use the onboard normal sata connectors and the port multiplier feature. Being unfamiliar with sata cable splitters and what would be compatible, I reached out to startech support through the online support chat and asked what product and or part number I needed to use this advertised feature on this card. I was told that we don't make any cables for that and can't recommend other companies products. I again asked for help using this feature and was told that its very straight forward with the correct cable and have a good day. I have purchased more than one startech product in the past and they have mostly done what I needed. It's dubious that I will again as this is practically criminal that I reach out for support and am told we don't sell the product to make this feature work and refuse to point you at anyone else that might make that product to make it work. I can't even describe how angry this made me. I am leaving this review here and will also put it out on amazon where I got the product for a client.

Bought this card for provisioning virtual machines with fast storage, working fully populated with two M.2 key and two 2.5" SATA drives (all WD Green), each pair running under RAID 0 to effectively provide two fast storage devices to the OS's, and everything has been working as expected with no issues whatsoever so far. Firstly, I had this setup running under Windows 10 Pro for "RHEL-like" virtual machines running under VMWare Workstation, and later on moved it to ESXi 8U2 for the same virtual machines. In both situations everything worked fine, with no RAID-array dropouts and r/w speeds as expected (according to CrystalDiskMark). As a special note, the card will work without providing the extra power needed through the floppy power connector, however, performance will be substantially hit (super high latencies will be experienced during r/w operations). Also, needless to say, pcie port bifurcation is needed. Overall it's a great product for adding high redundancy fast storage to your system at the right price point, totally recommended.

I am using this as a non-bootable card. The RAID array fell apart and the Marvell software crashes when I sttempt to rebuild it. But most dangerously it is now dropping offline for no apparent reason at least twice a day and looks like will crash permanently. Is there a warranty on this? Bought it from Amazon last year.

I purchased this for my PC to have a M.2 RAID, however upon installing the card crashed my PC, and even after getting the PC to recognize the card, it says the drivers are not signed. Device Manager recognized it as version 92xx but all the drivers are for 91xx. I guess I got what I deserved going with the cheaper option.

What sets this SSD RAID Controller Card apart is its ability to seamlessly integrate two M.2 NGFF (Next Generation Form Factor) drives and two SATA III (6Gbps) ports into your desktop computer. This advanced piece of hardware is designed to enhance your system's performance by combining the speed and compactness of M.2 solid state drives (SSD) with the ample storage capacity of traditional hard disk drives (HDD).
This high-quality controller card allows you to add two M.2 SSDs and two SATA III drives to your desktop, thereby increasing its storage capacity and performance. It supports a variety of RAID configurations including RAID 0, 1, and 10 (1+0), offering you multiple ways to expand your storage, improve your computer's performance, or create data redundancy backups.
The card's wide installation compatibility supports virtually all M.2 NGFF drives (22110, 2280, 2260, 2242, 2230), as well as hybrid drives. Its port multiplier feature allows you to connect up to seven drives in total, including two M.2 drives.
Equipped with two M.2 B-Key onboard sockets, this controller card supports SATA III transfer speeds up to 6Gbps. Its adjustable stand-offs and multiple mounting holes accommodate SSDs of various sizes including 110 mm, 80 mm, 60 mm, 42 mm, and 30 mm.
This efficient and reliable SSD RAID Controller Card is compliant with PCI Express 2.0 standards and supports Native Command Queuing (NCQ), as well as ATA and ATAPI commands. It can be powered by the PCIe bus or your computer's power supply using a 4-pin floppy power connector.
Designed for easy installation, this card fits into x4, x8, or x16 PCIe slots and comes with a full-profile bracket. A low-profile (half-height bracket) is also included for installation in small form-factor computers.
Whether you're looking to increase the internal storage capacity of your standard or small form-factor computer, create a RAID array for data redundancy and increased storage, or recover data from an M.2 SSD, this SSD RAID Controller Card is a versatile and high-performance solution. Please note that the maximum throughput of this card is limited by the bus interface, and only one SATA port can use the port multiplier at a time, with up to four drives total connected through PM in a non-RAID configuration.
