Sunpak Tri-Monopod

For the price I payed, it's great. Wish it came with a carrying case, but overall I'm happy with my investment.

Does what I wanted for a good price

I wanted to mount a couple of small, light cameras for video and so did not want to spend lots of money on the tripods. This unit does all that I need. I am not sure I will ever use the "converts to monopod" feature but it works as advertised. Don't expect to hold large loads with this unit.

Nice set up for the money

The 6601TM surprised me as a combo Tri/Monopod. My rating is actually 3.5 stars because the monopod segments are secured by twisting them tight. If you're in a hurry to get a shot, you'll forget to tighten a segment and it will slide down on you. It's an easy fix though. Though the unit is all aluminum it does feel a bit fragile, but it's held my heavy DSLR rig down to a small sports video cam. The tripod portion is solid though my only beef is with the plastic segment latches. I've had those snap off in cold weather with another tripod and have been leary ever since. As for the head I've had no real problems with keeping it steady. When I did it was because I didn't tighten the controls enough. Also it took me a minute to figure out you have to keep the main shaft tight until you want to raise it or remove for use as a monopod. If you don't, you won't be able to keep it from turning or sliding out if you pick up the unit by the camera. My only other beef is the baseplate has a plastic ring for turning the screw. It should have been metal as well. I also use pro-grade tripods for video and for less than $30 bucks, this ain't bad.

pan head sloppy

the tripod would be ok light duty, if the pan head was steady and rotated without flopping, I don't know why they made that part incorrectly
