I managed to drop my tripod, and that broke off the pan knob on my previous ball head. I bought it again because it's a good and sturdy ball head at a reasonable price. The new ball head seems to have improved on some of the minor annoyances the old one had. Compared to the old one, this also has the panning head. I have used this with my Wimberley Sidekick and it is sturdy enough for that kind of use as well.

This is the perfect ball head for general and pano photography. I use it with my Sony mirrorless system with lenses up to 70-200. Steady as a rock on my Gitzo carbon fiber tripod.

SUNWAYFOTO XB-44DDHi is based on XB-44DDHi and replaced the Screw-Knob Clamp with DDH-05N Panning Clamp. Precision Panning Base with integral clamp and bubble level for smooth and level panning. It's your ideal ball head for shooting panoramas. The scale with laser-engraved centering index marks can precisely master any angle variation during each shoot in horizontal rotation, the aligned scale of quick-release plate can accurately control the nodal point during the panoramic photography in different focal lengths. So the panoramic photography could be more accurate and high efficient.
Locking System is located on the side of the ball instead of the bottom of the ballhead. Whole center of gravity is lowered more than 15%
Adopts geared locking structure, higher locking strength
Specially designed panning base, smooth operation
Elliptical ball for progressive resistance and avoiding suddenly sliding down
Two drop notch design. One for portrait, one for tilting
All metal knobs for reliability and long term durability
Two set spirit level mounting holes for users to mount the removable spirit level to the other sides of the clamp
Special structure makes it the lightest of its class
360deg. panning movement with calibrated precision, precisely capture overlapping panoramic images
Compatible with Really right stuff (RRS), Wimberley, Jobu Design, Arca Swiss, Kirk Enterprises, Markins, Photo Clam etc
Ideal for Gitzo, Manfrotto, Sirui, Benro, RRS tripod
CNC machined from light weight aircraft grade aluminum
Satin Anodized Surface-Provides improved abrasion and corrosion resistance
Pure Metal Construction Design
Mount the panning clamp DDH-05N onto the ballhead and level the panning clamp then you can do panorama photography even on uneven ground
Geared locking structure, high locking strength
XB-44DDHX mounted perfectly on the TIA2O
The bottom thread is 3/8"-16. If your threaded stud on the top of the tripod is 1/4"-20, please install a bushing reducer 3/8" - 1/4"
When taking panoramic shooting, you need to make sure all the pictures are level. However, you can't always put your tripod on the level ground. When using panning clamp, you don't need to level the tripod legs. Just level the panning clamp, you can take panoramic shooting easily.
Friction Adjustment
To set the friction, either remove your camera from the tripod or hold it in place.
1. Start with Main Knob fully tightened
2.Then use your thumb or optional friction tool FT-01 to tighten the Friction Knob fully clockwise and then back it off by 90-180 degrees. This will set the friction and the amount of rotation of the Main Knob
3. Now fine tune the resistance and amount of rotation of the Main Knob by turning the Friction Knob clockwise in small increments until you get your preferred amount of resistance and rotation of the Main Knob
Caution
When there is camera loaded on the ballhead and the main knob is loosened up, Do not loosen the friction knob at the same time, otherwise the ballhead will drop all of a sudden and may cause damage to the camera.
