Seems to work very good with my Nikon D3200

I have found the flash falls off about 1 stop from center to top on a flat piece of art only 24 inches tall at a very moderate distance of 10 feet. Alternatively, I could describe this as a hotspot in the center, even with the small built it diffuser that can be flipped down. Setting the white balance to flash on my Nikon D5300 with this was a disaster - very yellow cast. I may be expecting too much from this modestly priced flash used as the primary direct light.

I used PZ42XN on Nikon D5100 and D800 inplace of the built-in flash. It is adequate for direct lighting of subject in relatively small room. I've used Alkaline and Ni-MH batteries (not mixed). While the recycling time and intensity is acceptable, I prefer another third-party speedlight that cost about $30 more because of the following: (1) GN of 200 (Ft) at 105mm /100 ISO (2) External power pack coconnection (3) Capability for wireless TTL Slave (4) Repeating Flash (4) supplied diffuser.

It is an inexpensive accesory that would equal a more expensive original. Very easy to use though I am in the process of learning its various features. Pictures I had taken with Sunpak PZ42XN had good results. Each time I use, results get better. Investment I guess is paying off.

I find it most useful for fill flash outdoors.

I've owned this flash for 30 days or so, and have shot a few indoor events using it as fill flash. The bounce angles work nicely, and the output of the flash is consistent. I really like having the ability to decrease flash output when shooting close subjects or a room with all light/white walls. I have had some issues with losing the communication between the flash and the Nikon D7000, but chalking up to it being a new combo for me. It's not an SB-910 (which I would love to have), but for the money, this is a great flash.

I have not tried out all features of the flash. But I have been very satisfied with the PZ42XN. And other good things are compact and low cost.

Simple user interface. Delivers consistent results in a variety of shooting circumstances. Not as versatile at the Nikon Speedlights, but has more powerful output and covers most of my needs for the right price.

It doesn't match a Nikon SB900. But it's a good knock-around flash without having to worry about all the functions.

Works great for the price. Some adjustments can be a bit slow to make when in a pinch. Zoom doesn't seem to register quite accurately in either 35mm nor Digital modes.

Makes taking indoor portraits simple. Provides excellent fill flash for high contrast outdoor photography. Great output at a reasonable price.

I bought this flash to use on my D5000 for a small indoor wedding we were shooting. The unit exceeded all of my expectations, TTL sync was great and manual control was simple as well.

Primary use is for real estate.Indoor shots of homes for sale posted on realtors web site for prospective buyers to view.Needed powerful flash for dimly lit large rooms and this Sunpak is excellent. Perfect exposures every time with TTL sync with Nikon D5000.Could not be happier with how this flash performs. And did I mention it was much less expensive than the comparable Nikon flashes!

The only thing this flash needs to get the 5th star is a better on/off switch. It is so easy to move that I have had it turn itself on several times when it has been shifted in my camera bag.

i bought this flash over SB600 because of the price...and yeah, this flash is comparable to SB600 or SB800...the only disadvantage of this flash compare to Nikon's speedlights is that, you can't use the CLS mode of your camera (D80s, D300s...) with this flash...but all in all this flash ia great for its value! by the way im using it with my D200, and it works pretty well...together with the Sto-fen flash diffuser.

Using the College of the Siskiyous, Nikon SB600, SB800 Flashes and my Sunpak PZ42X to test it out. I went out and I shot a good number of similar pictures with each flash unit. Going through them in Lightroom 2, I felt that I got better shots with the Sunpak Flash. AT night in a club the Sunpak PZ42X was able to reach out farther into the group then with the SB600 and just about the same with the SB800. Though the SB800 and the new SB900 have some nice features $ for $ my bet is on the Sunpak I can buy 3 - PZ42x for the price of 1 SB-800/900. Now for some Info on me, I am 55 now and have been taking Photos since I was 12-13. My Dad was a photographer use kids were his models. I have been disabled since 1995 and needed a new hobby. I have not been taking Photos for 15 year except for the family and I used one of the automatic 35 mm cameras. In 1999 when I got some money in Back pay I got my first Digital camera it was a Minolta, it was a 2 MP camera shot only Jpgs, and cost me $400. I have almost 15,000 Jpgs and close to 10,000 Raw Photos saved on HD, CD's and DVD's. I went back to college and finishing my AA in Fine Arts. With student loans I been able to get new Computers (iMac & Mackbook Pro), Cameras (Nikon D90 and D300), and a lot of Software Adobe CS4 and Lightroom 2. I have just started a Photography and Photo Restoration Business out of my home. and the Sunpak Flash is just one of the many important pieces of equipment that I need to get the things done. things

I do mostly wedding photography using Nikon cameras and Sunpak flashes. I have been a fan of Sunpak for many years and the PZ52XN works perfectly with my Nikon digital camera. I have tried another brand but it did not work with Nikon's i-TTL. The PZ42XN also works fine with my older Nikon film cameras. It is a bright flash with a guide number around 138 at ISO 100. Since most of my flash photography is done at ISO's from 200 to 1600 this flash can be used from the balcony in most dark churches that allow flash. 60-70 feet away is no problem. This powerful flash is a blessing when using it outdoors as fill flash. In the shade, it can brighten your subject to preserve color in background lakes and sky. Exposures have been remarkedly consistent and the flash has been extremely dependable. Battery life is acceptable and the AA batteries are available almost everywhere. I use alkalines and change batteries between the church/ceremony and the reception. I could not expect any more out of a flash unit. It does not get any better than this.

Nice flash, a bargain when compared to the Nikon but not as many interactions with the camera either. No prob if you don't need them. It would be a perfect flash if it had a connector to provide external power from a battery pack.

Sunpak PZ42XN flash is the perfect accessory for today's digital SLR cameras. Compatible with the latest Nikon i-TTL DSLR cameras. The PZ42X has many advanced features, such as automatic zoom head from 24-105mm, bounce and swivel capabilities, built in wide angle diffuser and AF assist.
With a high guide number of 138 (ISO 100/feet), the PZ42X can provide outstanding illumination in any situation. It also offers a bright and easy-to-read LCD display and easy-to-use controls for manual flash output, digital or film lens coverage and zoom head settings.
