Review Summary
The Swift Nighthawk Series of Spotting Scopes is the result of over five years of research and development with the goal of producing quality spotting scopes for bird watchers, hunters, and nature photographers. Designed to be free of chromatic aberration and distortion, they have excellent depth of field and resolving power.Lighter in weight than the five other high quality scopes on the market (1,100 grams or 31oz.) they are showerproof and compact at 350mm in length.
The main body of the scope's prism housing, which is rubber covered, is identical for both models, the only difference being in the objective lens and its extension tube.
The focal length 480mm. All optics are multi-coated, including the eyepieces. To assist in getting on target, a 1.8x optical finder with a reticle is provided for easy target location.
The scopes are equipped with a retractable lens hood to protect the objective lens from direct exposure to sunlight or dew and are available with either straight-through or 45 degree viewing. Both scopes are also available in an ED version which has Extra Low Dispersion lenses which provide precise color definition and optimum resolution for the sharpest possible images.
There are five fixed power eyepieces (providing 19, 25, 31, 50, and 75X), and a superb zoom lens (20-60X) which fit all four of the Nighthawk spotting scopes. The fixed eyepieces are the bayonet type and can be installed or removed with a quarter turn. The zoom eyepiece is a screw in type. Other optional accessories include a soft field carrying case which can remain on the scope even when the scope is mounted on a tripod, and complete accessories for telephotography.
