Bought to replace a 5 bay Drobo that went bad. I find the network connection to be slow and cumbersome compared to the direct connect I had before. My computer is connected wirelessly which I think is the issue. Other than that, the Synology DS1019+ seems to be working as expected. I'm still learning how to fully utilize what this unit has to offer. I want to set up an auto backup system and haven't had time to get that figured out just yet.

Easy to setup! Super quiet don’t even realize it’s on except for the LED on the front, that’s been changed to lowest brightness setting. Lots of options and easy software to use with Synology. The 1019+ unit is definitely worth it, get storage that fits your budget. Next thing has nothing to do with the unit itself but does anyone actually ever win the giveaways that business run?????

Received in excellent condition. Works as expected. This is my second box. Purchased this one for backup and to be able to use the Virtual Machine Manager.

So far so good! Lot’s to learn, still working out the best way to transfer from my Netgear NAS to my new Synology, but it’s WAY faster than my old one.

I have had the Synology DS1019+ for about a month now and so far its more than what I expected. Regarding durability, its a solid NAS but only time will tell. When I got the NAS I decided to use two of my 1TB drives (one from Seagate and one from WD) and the process of setting them up was very easy (many youtube videos on that as well). The idea was to get started and buy WD Red drives when sale came around. I was lucky and got 3x8TB WD Red drives and started the process of replacing and adding drives. This, in my opinion is the ultimate test since NAS has to rebuild the system, and it did great (but took some time). I'm still into my first month using it and setting it up the way I really want it to work, but so far I can say it was worth the price and effort to get it.

Love this thing, it does everything! It is my home backup for all our Macs, runs docker instances, and hosts my website. So happy with this purchase.

I bought this to replace an aging Synology DS-1512+ that I was using to host my video files, but it lacked the CPU power to run Plex natively. I was hoping the CPU in the 1019+ would be strong enough to transcode 1080p MKV files in real time. It is! I've tested five simultaneous streams and it never went past 46%. This is phenomenal performance and exactly what I was hoping for. The Synology OS is solid and has a great UI. So far the 1019+ has met all my expectations and I'm pleased with the purchase.

It just works! Took some time with preparing the hard drive raid array but after that has been quietly churning away. The loudest sound you may hear is the sound of your hard drives and that too isn’t that loud. Using it as a Plex server with 32TB HDD in 4 bays with a bay to spare. Haven’t tried caching yet but didn’t feel the need for it.

Easy to install and configure. Appears to be very reliable and secure. System documentation is somewhat lacking, as is so often the case for Asian manufacturers. Community forums are not great.

Using as a company file and backup server, and it’s a worth upgrade over a 412+. Allows for small VMs like my Unifi Controller, and also has enough RAM for doing image backups using Synology Active Backup for Business

Profession: Security Analyst Setup: 5x WD 10TB RED, 2x Samsung 970 EVO 250gb M.2 SDD for cache Apps: Docker, VM Manager, Plex, Photo Station, SMB Mac OSX Time Machine I've been using the Synology NAS 1019+ for the past week with a multi-user setup, and this box just works effortlessly. I have transmission running in Docker and 1x Windows 10 VM in VM Manager. This CPU isn't made for running multiple intensive VM's but it gets the job done. CPU usage spikes when on the VM but it doesn't snail too hard. I would recommend running Win7 instead of Win10 if possible as it is a "lighter" OS. Plex playback is amazing IF you have Plex Pass which utilized CPU hardware acceleration which is a must! By default hardware acceleration is turned off, so you MUST toggle it on as a Plex Pads subscriber. I am able to playback 4k HDR10 movies wirelessly to my Apple TV 4k at over 20mbps. Photo station is a nice Synology app where you can backup all your photos from your iPhone. I did experience a multi-day conversion process which involved restarting the app. And when I say conversion it is synology's term to create "thumbnails." Your images are not being down converted and compressed. Time machine on my MacBook pro 15 2018 runs smoothly using SMB. The Synology assistant fat client works well in mapping drives. The M.2 SSDs were easy to install as cache. I would not recommend going above 500gb per stick ad it is minimal ROI. It works well in speeding up VM processes. The 1019+ comes with 8GBs of RAM stock. You can upgrade above 8GB but Synology does not recommend it. Security: built in security center scans your shared drives for malware and viruses. Synology allows you to create your own virtual private cloud. Disk encryption is available but slows down performance. You can static route each NIC as well. TLDR: a 5 bay beast that can transcode 4k and host your VMs. Synology software is tried and tried and just works. Buy it and add hdds as you go.
