Upgraded from a Synology DS416. Migration from EXT4 to btrfs was easy. One warning, moving from DSM 6 to DSM7.1, NTLMv1 is not enabled by default. NTLMv2 is supported and recommended but requires some tinkering with windows to make it work. This will cause an issue with SMB mapped drives in Windows. Great so far! But for a 2021 NAS that has four lan ports and no 2.5gigabit or higher ports is so disappointing. 200 dollar routers in 2021 have some options for 2.5gigabit at least one port in some cases... But Synology decided to save money here. Would have rather seen 2 x 2.5 ports rather than 4 1 gig ports. Everything else works fantastic and the system is fast though!

This is one of my favorite Synology NAS models. I like everything about it. Only knocks are it should ship with 8GB RAM, so think about a RAM upgrade unless your use case is light duty. And, it's not the best choice if you plan to use this predominantly for transcoding. The AMD CPU in this NAS has no GPU, so all transcoding is done in software. Otherwise it's a great NAS and if one day you wish you had a 10Gb connection to it, you can make that happen through the PCIe expansion slot.

Amazing NAS, extremely extensible and powerful. Rather simple to setup, and get started. Currently running a series of docker containers with minimal memory/cpu utilization. Looking forward to leveraging the home, photo sync, and surveillance station capabilities next. Adorama was amazingly fast getting this to my door, less than 24 hours (drop ship) from order to my hands.

Most reliable NAS. This is my 2nd NAS from Synology. The first one from Synology, DS1512+ aged and got bit slower. The Synology DS1512+ served me for 9 years. Never failed me. Never though to buy any other brand and went straight with Synology. Migration to DS1621+ was very very easy. Very happy with the product.

So far it's looking good. This is a powerful NAS (not only has a great CPU, but also comes with 6 bays and optionally, 10GB LAN). One downside is that it doesn't offer hardware transcoding so if you're looking to run Plex on this box...it will run, but not as efficient as the Intel CPUs.
