I feel it gives a very harsh light which is not the effect I was after.

I got this to try to improve and lighten my macro set-up. It works just fine and I am happy with the results that I have gotten with it the first few times I put it to use.

I do a lot of Macro photography and prefer available light, but sometimes that's impossible. Without spending a fortune you can have this flash that works very well. A lot of reviewers complain about the quality, but it's not bad at all. If you treat your equipment with care and respect you won't have a problem. Very easy to use. If the flash is too bright you can use your camera's flash exposure compensation to tone it down. I'm really happy with it. I use it on my Canon 100mm Macro and get great images. The only thing I wish it had was a rechargeable battery, like my camera. Other than that it's great.

I just used the flash for the first time two weeks ago and got great results with the flash. Very impressed especially with the price I payed in comparison to others.

Looking forward to warm weather to try it out on bugs and flowers. Seems to work well. Had tried a ring light, but but did not provide much illumination. This ring flash actually has pretty good output.

Handle with care. Great flash but the hot shoe connector is weak, eventually shatters and I am on my second one. Still cheaper than Canon by a mile and when it works it is great. The less you have to put it on and off the camera the better. You can buy 5 of these for the price of one Canon ring flash and mine lasted for a year of hard use before it fell apart.

compare cost from Canons macro flash line, this one is a no brainer under a hundred bucks ETTL controlled

Had to mess with this since the connection didn't always result in a flash.

Use it for maro work where power is nt an issue, although it does fine within its range. TTL lets the camera do the exposer work - nice. I had to lubricate the attachment wheel as it was quite sticky, used a silicone based lube and OK now.

Inexpensive tool that works great. makes hand held marco possible when there isn't time to set up and wait.

I bought this flash for Macro use, and it fits the bill perfectly. I primarily shoot nature Macro, including flowers, bugs, etc, but will shoot anything that catches my eye. I use this in combination with my Tamron 18-270 lens and an extender tube. For the record, this flash does not include the adapter necessary to fit the 72 mm ring, but I was able to separately purchase the adapter for a small cost (from Adorama). This flash fills the shadows with light, and allows for crisp, clear, well-lit macro shots, no matter the lighting. If you are going to use with a third party extender tube, be sure to practice manual focus, as the extender tube negates the auto focus function. Overall, great flash. Very versatile, works well for the intended purpose, and very affordable. Also a plus: ETTL compatibility.

It has worked well for me so far. For the price, you can't beat it. I have been able to get right into a bee's face and take the photo with perfect lighting. No shadows. I highly recommend it.

It works well 3-4 ft or more. To much light any closer.

I've only a casual user, shooting flowers mostly so far, and have used this flash only for a short period time so far though, it has performed exactly as I had anticipated and the exposures have been excellent. It recycles quickly, but I haven't taken enough pictures with it in one shooting to determine how many flash cycles a set of batteries will last. The only thing that I think could be improved is the battery polarity markings in the battery compartment. Markings are black on black and hard to see except in bright light.

I am a retired pro who teaches. Have both Nikon and Canon units. Tested both with students. All were very impressed with both units. Made tenting for macro very quick and easy. Looks good. Produces good results, both Canon and Nikon.

I bought this unit because I did not have a ring flash and I wanted to try it and it was inexpensive. It works well, but the output is fairly weak so you must stand close to the subject and I often get red eye. Remember, this flash does not say that it is a "portrait" flash, so red eye is not their problem. I am happy with this flash, but you need one with a much large opening and one that will accept pro lenses if you plan to use it as a pro ring flash

Lights subject effectively for taking great macro shots. As the on camera flash leaves shadows from your subject this ring flash does not. The price is right too.

This is a great way to get a ring light. It is cheap and fun to use.

would work better with lens with smaller filters like 52mm I had to use an adapter up to 58mm and unless you zoom in you can see this product on the image but Im still happy with it

This is just what I expected. Great for macro and head shot style portraits, but not enough output for any thing more than a few feet away.

Well for the price it is what you would expect and nothing more. It's cheaply made out of flimsy plastic feels like a cheap macro flash. Not any where near the quality of the Canon but for the rare times I need a ring flash, does a better job than trying to use mono lights or an on camera flash.

This is an acceptable flash for the price. It is nice that it comes with several connection rings of different sizes. A red-eye reduction pre-flash mode would have been nice.

[...] this is a good macro flash as well as portrait flash. I would love it more if it came with a 77mm adaptor so that it would work with my L series lens. Otherwise I have to borrow my brother's cheeper lens that came with his rebel! if there is an adaptor for a 77mm please let me know! :)
