Review Summary
The Telmax Galaxy Series UTAB Teleprompter is the exact same system as Telmax's GS11-R except for two differences. Instead of an 11" LCD monitor, UTAB comes with a universal placeholder for all tablets, from the iPad mini to the iPad 3 and the Galaxy and others that aren't much larger than the iPad or Galaxy. And instead of a ZaPrompt software, UTAB works with any of various prompter apps affordably available at the Apple App Store or on Google Play. These differences aside, UTAB and the GS11-R share all the same characteristics.
A unique mount system allows attaching and adjusting a tripod underneath the length of the prompter assembly. As a result, the prompter can be tilted forward or back to match the weight of a camera. No counterweights will thus be necessary and your camera can be any size, from the lightest to the heaviest and can be freely panned and tilted (as if nothing is attached to it). The mount system affords an easy fit and simple setup on any tripod that can handle the weight of the prompter and camera. The total weight of the prompter and its accessories is approximately 12 lb.
The reading range is up to 12 ft. Camera height and beamsplitter angle are both adjustable. The beamsplitter glass measures 12 x 12" and has a 70/30 transmission/reflection ratio. 70/30 is notably more effective than the usual 60/40. The back of the glass features an anti-reflection coating. The hood is made of vinyl and has forming wires that prevent sagging. Side blinders come included. The prompter sets up almost entirely without any tools and folds flat for storage and transportation.
