This glass filter does an excellent job of removing glare from water and other highly reflective surfaces being photographed. In addition, it deeply enhances the colors in the sky of my landscape photos.

My copy is very precision when rotated, not sloppy. No noticeable optical distortion. Did not affect autofocus when my Panasonic Leica 100-400mm lens was zoomed out to 400mm which was a problem with other circ-pol filters in the past. Threads were smooth when screwing on and off the lens. I don't know if other copies are as good as mine but I would assume so. I have some Tiffen variable neutral density filters that are good quality. I don't see a lot of risk with buying Tiffen filters. I am happy with mine.

I enjoy the easy rotation for finding the perfect amount of light in most conditions.

Hoya HD polarization filters hold up lots better and are less optically dense for aslightly more money.

Helps darken blue skies and reduces reflections in glass and water. Scratch resistant too.

I forgot to mention that it can reduce the amount of light entering the camera, allowing for longer exposures.

I had to take a small mill file to the threads to smooth them out a bit as the titanium coating had not been cleaned up and was cutting my fingers! For the price that should have been done by Tiffen and not by me. The glass is very good and I have no other problems, the new coatings have made this filter a full second faster in most usages than my old 1960 era Vivitar filter and of course it works with the auto-focus digital camera where the old filter could fool the auto-focus.

I bought one of these filters as I needed one in a hurry. All I can say is I should have waited. In less than a week I found a hairline crack in the filter. The filter has never been dropped, bumped, over tightened. All I can say is I am disapointed.

The polarizing affects of this filter allow a wide range of adjustment to my photographs. I recomend Tiffen polarizers for everyone.

Sometimes, reducing aperture size or choosing a faster shutter speed may give you a proper exposure, but ruin the picture. That's when the ND Filter comes to the rescue.

Digital HT filters
Tiffen Digital HT filters are a state-of-the-art technological breakthrough in multi-coated photo and video filters. Made for the discerning professional and imaging enthusiast, Digital HT filters with Hi-Trans Double-Sided Titanium Multi-Coating surpass even military specifications for hardness and durability.
Digital HT - High Transmission - filters offer the strength of a Titanium coating combined with the purest optical quality glass and Tiffen's Academy-Award-winning ColorCore technology. They present unmatched scratch-resistant durability and worry-free cleaning while other coated filters on the market today cautiously suggest delicate, if any, cleaning procedures, in fear of destroying the coating (and thereby the filter).
And that's not all - these High Transmission filters feature a low profile titanium finish ring and anti-reflective black lock ring which sets these filters apart from the rest.
Digital HT Polarizing Filters
Polarizers provide color and contrast enhancement. Reflected light often shows up as whitish glare that washes out color in an image. A Polarizer corrects this problem producing deep, dramatically blue skies. It also removes glare from non-metallic surfaces, such as windows and water. Color saturation in general, especially outdoors, can be improved significantly.
Polarizer/Circular Polarizer
Essential general-use outdoor color filter
Produces deeper skies and minimizes reflections in black and white and color photography
Combine a Polarizer with a Red 25 (available separately) for incredibly dramatic black and white landscapes
Can be rotated to achieve desired effect
Use the Tiffen Polarizer with the enhancing filter for more dramatic effects
A Circular Polarizer has the same effect as a Polarizer and is used on cameras with beam splitting metering systems commonly found on auto focus SLR's (for most 35mm auto-focus cameras see your camera manual).
Area of sky most effectively polarized with a Circular Polarizer: Point your index finger at the sun. With your thumb extended at a right angle (90½), rotate it around the axis of the index finger. It will point out the band of deepest blue from horizon to horizon.
