Tiffen filters seem to have one common problem: the threading. The threading seems to be prone to cross-threading onto the lens barrel. I have noticed this throughout the years I have used Tiffen filters. It is good if you are at a camera store and just need a quick, temporary filter for a specific use and that store has a limited supply of filters. But if you're shopping online (which you probably are if you're reading this) it is not a great, "go-to," filter and I will explain why: The cross-threading problem is fine if you're in studio and have all the time in the world to precisely put the filter on with care, but if you're out in the field, and trying to juggle multiple filters and do not have all the time in the world to gently screw on a filter, this is where the cross-threading problem becomes very pronounced. Sometimes the filter gets stuck, when it does, and you're trying to apply a little more pressure than normal to get it off, it sometimes comes of violently, and the threads graze your lens element! I have had this happen to me, and I have put scratches on my lens element as a result. I do not need to tell you, that is bad news. And since you're online, I recommend taking advantage of the greater selection since you're here and presently have the opportunity. One last thing about the cross-threading problem: it is common for photographers, from time to time, to use two filters: a color contrast filter and a pol. filter together for dramatic effect. Ever try to unscrew two filters together that are stuck--and one is a rotating pol.? Better bring a set of filter wrenches--and even those won't make it easy to get them unstuck. I bought the tiffen green this particle time because I wanted specifically a #58. Other filter companies do have dark green filters, but I couldn't determine if they were the exact shade of dark green I wanted, so I reluctantly went with Tiffen this one time, the optics are OK; the construction is not.
