RODNEY O : I live in oil country where the flares give orange red glow at night will this filter take the red glow out of my shot?CLARENCE S : , In fact this filter will tint your entire image red. Assuming that you are shooting color images. This filter is intended for black and white. it works by allowing red light through to the sensor, while blocking other wavelength. This will have the effect, in black-and-white, of giving people a creamier complexion. Or for example, if you are imaging a red Apple hanging on a tree with green leaves, this filter will make the Apple a light gray and The leaves a dark gray. without the filter the Apple and the leaves would probably be about the same shade of gray. So this filter helps make one or the other stand out. Again, this filter is intended for use with black and white imaging.THOMAS L : The red filter is used in black and white photography to lighten like colors and darken opposite colors. In practical usage, the red filter will make blue skies significantly darker and increase apparent contrast between the sky and the clouds. The #25 filter necessitates increasing the exposure by about 2 stops. In color photography, it will make everything red. So, no, I don't think it will help to reduce red at all.LASZLO D : No, it takes out the blue of the sky if you shoot on b&w film. Try a blue one. I don't own this filter anymore, though, I had to send it back due to separation of the glasses. They all seem to come from a very old batch made in the film days and have deterioted.

Vignettes on 50mm in 6x7 Mamiya RB!

I am pleased with the product in general but the filter ring could be thinner to avoid vignetting on my wide angle lens. I may have to use a step up ring and buy the largest filter possible to get my full 50mm FOV in 6x7 format. I am a Mamiya RB67 user for landscape.

About Tiffen 77mm 25 Filter, Red

Filters for black and white photography perform a variety of filtration effects including contrast control, enhanced skin tones, tonal corrections and more dramatic landscapes. Although originally intended for use with black and white film, this filter can also be used as a creative tool in color imaging.

Create dramatic sky effects, emphasizing cloud contrast for landscapes. Simulate a moonlit scene at midday with slight underexposure. Use with infrared film to yield extreme contrast with skies, turn foliage white and cut through fog and haze.
