GEORGE M : Is this what you use when shooting indoors to avoid windows flaring out? Can you use it with HDR?JEFFREY K : I think you may be right about that. I'd double check in the message boards before purchasing. I bought the ultra contrast to basically lower the image's contrast and soften the light. If you want an idea of the effect you will get, watch Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon" or "Eyes Wide Shut".KEPING W : This filter is a complete garbage. I bought it a while ago and it is a still filter basically put the highlight into the <a href="http://darkness...so" target="_blank">darkness...so</a> the dark area looks brighter without detail and with the tint from the high light. I am not sure what this filter is really use for. All photos look like junk with it. It's only great on paper - in real life it has literally no use.

Controlling contrast is difficult in bright sunlit exteriors. Exposing for either highlights or shadows will leave the other severely under-or over-exposed.

Ultra Contrast Filter
Tiffen was recognized with a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for the innovative design of this popular Motion Picture and TV filter. It uses the surrounding ambient light, not just light in the image area, to evenly lighten shadows throughout. Use it where contrast control is needed without any other effect on sharpness or highlight flare being apparent.
