Shopper : Does this filter have a front thread and will it suit the Nikkor 10-24mm WA zoom lens? Regards, Greg.BRIAN S : It has a front thread. I use mine on a 70-300mm Nikkor. In my experience, a WA zoom needs a very thin filter if you want an additional filter on the front. Otherwise you will get some corner shading, as happens on my 18-200mm at the short end with a thin UV plus thicker polarizer. 10-24mm is even more critical, and I suspect that even with two very thin ones you will have a problem at 10mm (but haven't done it).DAVID M : Yes, it does have a front thread. It will fit any lens with a 77mm filter thread. The rim is standard thickness, so you will need to check your lens at the 10mm setting, with any standard thickness 77mm filter mounted on it, to see if you get any vignetting (dark corners due to the filter rim impinging on the angle of view of your lens). If so, then you will need to try a filter with a thinner rim.

Cuts through mountain haze

I shoot at 5000' to 14,000' in the central Rockies. One of the problems at these altitudes is the hard UV and atmospheric haze that develops sometimes. I have used this filter for many years with great success. The filter was originally designed for use in aerial photography (shooting through long atmospheric paths through haze at altitude). It has a sharp cutoff at ~400nm rather than at ~360 or 370nm. Thus blocking the longer wavelength UV. This makes the filter ideal for high altitude pix. I would suggest it for anyone shooting in the mountains. I use it as an all-round UV and protective filter on most of my lenses.

I love it.

The main thing it protects my lens and makes my colors more vivid. When I need all the light I can get through my lens it doesn't interfere with my f-stop.

ALERT - mfg defect - does not fit

Feb 2010 - ordered 2 identical filters and a new Canon lense; already have a Canon lense that needed a filter too. One of the Tiffen filters fit both lenses, the other did not fit either one. First filter had classic metal finish; second had new non-glare powder coat finish and that 'thickened' the threads so it would not screw into the lense! Not even the brand new lense that I ordered with it.[...]Until this is acknowledged and fixed DO NOT BUY this filter. And who knows what other filters don't fit. Good luck.
