Review Summary

Several points: First, I use Tiffen filters for both my UV lens protectors and Graduated and regular ND filters. There is no color distortion that I can detect. This Grad can be handheld in front of the lens if the exposure isn't too long. Second, I use a Zomei ring and Z Holder system for sunrise and sunset shots as the exposure times are longer than I feel comfortable hand holding the filter. Third, this larger filter is really useful for eliminating any shadowing when my zoom wide angle lens is set for focal lengths around 15mm. Although there is more gear to pack in my kit I get much better results than with the circular screw on grad filter. Largely because you have much more flexibility in establishing the horizon line.

When capturing dynamic landscapes or outdoor scenes where lighting conditions are challenging, the Tiffen 4x5.65" Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Water White Glass Filter becomes an essential tool for photographers and videographers. This high-quality filter is designed to seamlessly balance the exposure between bright skies and darker foregrounds without altering the color balance of the image.
Crafted from durable Water White Glass, this filter ensures pristine optical clarity and fidelity, maintaining the integrity of your image without any color distortion. The ND 0.9 rating equates to a 3-stop reduction in light, allowing for greater control over exposure settings and the ability to achieve a shallower depth of field or motion blur in bright conditions.
The soft-edge gradient of this filter provides a smooth transition from the filtered to the unfiltered portion of the scene, making it particularly effective for scenes with an undefined or uneven horizon line. The vertical orientation of the gradient is ideal for photographers who frequently shoot upright compositions, such as portraits against a bright sky or architectural photography with a significant contrast between the building and the sky.
Versatile in its use, this Tiffen graduated ND filter can be used with a filter holder system for precision placement or handheld for quick adjustments on the move, as noted by our users. Its larger size is advantageous for wide-angle lenses, preventing vignetting and allowing for more flexibility in positioning the horizon within the frame.
Whether you're a professional photographer aiming to capture the perfect sunrise or a hobbyist looking to enhance your landscape photography, the Tiffen 4x5.65" Graduated ND 0.9 Filter offers the effective and easy-to-use solution you need to achieve balanced exposures and breathtaking imagery. Choose this filter to harness the full dynamic range of your digital or film medium, ensuring that every detail, from the brightest cloud to the darkest landscape, is captured with precision.
