Questions & Answers

Shopper : Hello. It is possible to take out the FX13 head of this tripod, or it is fixed? I wonder if I can put a stronger head thatn can support more load, thank you very much! Luis MiguelACCOUNTS P : Per Cary Clayton - (Yes it’s removable. You will have to flip it upside down and remove two screws with an Allen wrench. I see what this guy is saying because the camera weight does make the Tripods head tilt down. Overall still great. )
Shopper : what is the country of origin?MICHAEL G : I know it was USA. They have a long history here. I also know they are now marketed by Tiffen.
Peggy P : How much does this weigh? I do not see this information in the specs. As an older (but relatively strong ) female, I am concerned about carrying too much weight on hiking trails.Ashley W : The specs say it weighs 5.10 lbs. I'm located in Boone, NC and hike a lot. I don't usually bring my tripod along and at some point would like to buy a lighter tripod or Gorillapod for hiking with my camera. If you're going on a day hike or shorter <5 miles hike, I would say you'd be fine. I wouldn't bring this backpacking as it is a bit heavy for long distances. It's also a bit bulky. I bought a backpack with a foot on the side to hold the tripod, and while it does fit, it makes the entire backpack a bit awkward. Better for destination shots(i.e. you know where you're going and what shot you want to take).DARYL M : 6.7# per Specifications...ANDREW R : Davis & Sanford Magnum XG Specifications Head Type Fluid 3-way Pan Tripod Mount Thread 3/8"-16 Quick Release QR Plate for Still Photography: 1.75" x 1.75" /4.44 x 4.44 cm QR Plate for Video: 3.25" x 1.75" /8.25 x 4.44 cm Tripod Material Aluminum Max Tripod Height 6' /1.83 m Center Column Type 2-Section Centerpost Minimum Height 8" /20.32 cm Folded Length 27" /68.6 cm Leg Sections 3 Sections Leg Lock Type Snap Leg Locks Max Load Capacity Head: 8 lb (3.6 kg) / Tripod 15 lb (6.8 kg) Weight 6.7 lb (3.04 kg) Notes and Special Features Independent Leg Spread, 4 Positions Spiked Legs No Rubber Feet Bubble Level Three Bubble Levels on Head, One on Tripod Non-Illuminated Case Included Pan/Tilt Range Pan: 360° Tilt: +60° to - 90° Pan/Tilt Lock Yes/Yes Counter Balance System On-Off Head

Broke within a day

The head came off within a day. Luckily, I caught my camera (a brand new GH5) as it was falling off. God awful product.

Decent for the price, but questionable shipping/condition.

Not crazy about how it was packaged to ship. Tripod box was packed in a larger box without enough bubble wrap/bubble cushion to keep it from sliding around inside larger box. Top of tripod a little beat up and missing allen wrench which was needed to loosen quick release plate that was mounted way too tightly. Wondering if this was a returned item, since I can't see head and tripod release receiving that kind of damage in shipping alone. Tripod itself seems to work well, although I can hear grease sucking when moving head around. Hope that goes away with use. For the price, trying to have realistic expectations. If I paid list, would probably have returned.

solid support

I just received and began using the Magnum XG Tripod. It is much sturdier and heavier than the other tripods I have had. Because I hike with my camera to photograph in remote locations, I have used light weight tripods in the past with mixed results. The problem with light weight tripods I have used is they have lacked the support in lower light shots. Even after only two outings, I am learning to carry the extra weight with greater ease.

Great tripod for the price

Brilliant

This has to be the best tripod value to be found anywhere. It offers everything that my $1000 plus setup offers but at a fraction of the price. It is sound and capable of safely supporting my heavy lens and body.

Don't know for sure yet

I have no idea. I plan to go on an extensive cross country trip this Fall and I wanted to have a tripod available in NM when I got there-about 70% of the way in the trip. This tripod looked good. Most things I have gotten from Adorama have been accurately described and it was certainly worth the price to have it available without having to carry it about 6000 miles.

Solid tripod at a good value

I break a tripod about once every 18 months. This time, I stepped up a level for something a bit more dependable. I'm very pleased with this D&S Magnum.

Nice product for the money!

Bought this for multiple uses including Video Calibration (hold meters), digial camera, and laser level. The thing I don't like the most is the lack of crank to adjust the center post. It looks like the crank is not something found on higher end tripods but I really like having one when using a level. This unit is TALL and fairly heavy. The quick diconnect does not slide in to the tripod very smoothly. That said, for the price, this is a very well equipted tripod and I am happy with the purchas.

Exceptionally great!!!!!!!

This is my second tripod and in comparison to my first, it makes my first tripod look like a toy. I primarily use it for night shoots and studio work. I like this product because it was worth every penny. Also, the quick release feature, tight locks and stability. I was happy for the great customer service from Efrain in the lighting area. Thank you Adorama!!

Great Tripod for the Money

I'm well over 6 feet tall and this tripod takes the bending and stooping out of the edquation for most shots. That alone improves my image-capture experience substantailly, but the good quality and low price are icing on the cake.

A Great Tripod for the Money!

I needed a tripod which would allow me to take photos without bending way over. I'm 6'2", and this one is perfect. It's solid and very stable. The 3 bubble levels assure perfect alignment. I wanted to add a ballhead, but can't justify that as the 3 levers allow panning and rotation. It works great, but is slightly heavy. That's not a problem for me as I don't carry it everywhere. Very good investment. I definitely got my money's worth. This is a good unit for enthusiasts who want stability and ease of use at a decent price. I have the Nikon N80, D80, D90, and D7000. The quick-release pan head lets me reposition my cameras quickly and securely. I can't imagine ever needing another tripod.

Fits my needs

I prefer not to use flash - instead bring out the tripod for use with slow shutter speeds.

Quality product with excellent value

This is the only tripod I could find that had a max height of 72" without spending a million bucks. I am 6'1" and I need the tripod height. The tripod is stable, with good maximum capacity, and it is a very good value for the price. The 10 year warranty and the history of the company made a big positive difference in my decision.

sturdy and outstanding

This tripod is exactly what you need to provide stability for your shots. If you are using a DSLR camera this device gives you a range of motion so you dont have to bend over to shoot.
