Questions & Answers

Dennis L : How many Bubble level does the tripod have?
Gary S : Some customers have said that they would not use this tripod with a small consumer Camcorders that are now sold. They say that the camcorders are so small that they do not weight enough and that this fluid head does not work well with out the weight. What do you think? Would you use this tripod with the HD Camcorders sold today?KARL K : I've been pleased with the tripod, using my prosumer level video camera. It's solid, stable and not easily disturbed and I've had no problem with the fluid head.JONATHAN M : The fluid head of this tripod is not as "fluid" as others. It does take a little effort with lighter cams. I have to hold the tripod with one hand while panning with the other. Truthfully it's not a huge problem. However, the tripod legs are cumbersome. They are impossible to use on the fly. It is a true design flaw and keeps this tripod from from being exceptional for the price. That is why I can not recommend this tripod.TROY C : No, I would not use this tripod with a lightweight device. The tripod is heavy duty and physically weighs a lot, and it doesn't make sense to me to use it with a lightweight device. I do disagree, however that you need a heavier device to engage the fluid head. Operation of the fluid head is not impaired by using it with a lighter device. Hope that helps! - TroyWaldo C : I've used this tripod for many applications and it is the perfect lightweight piece to use with DSLRs, mini small handheld consumer video cameras/camcorders, intermediate prosumer cameras and to hold a 15 inch free-standing teleprompter too in Weddings, Corporate events and to shoot commercials and promos. Head is nice, plus the dolley package is awesome so you can do smooth dolley shots to move around! Remember if you have a camcorder and are using image stabilization for long distance shots a tripod like this is the perfect combination to do smooth panning, tilting and zoom in shots flawlessly.
Jon M : does the tripod come with a quick release mounting plate or is it sold separately?Waldo C : Mine came with 2 Quick release plates and 2 arms and a dolley, what a deal!ANDREW R : Yes, the head on this tripod should include a quick release plate.

Excellent Tripd

This is a heavy duty prosumer class tripod with very smooth pan and tilt capabilities. All of the components are robust. The price is excellent for this level of quality.

Nice step up

A real improvement from my last sticks; so far so good with the dolly. Faster delivery than expected, too.

Great tripod

This tripod works perfect. It's very robust and the head pans and tilts very smoothly. It's not light weight but it's still light enough to travel with. I got the optional dolly which makes this package a great deal.

Maybe studio use, but not field work

Overall, the function of the tripod is good -- pans and tilts nicely. The bowl head works as it should, and has a bubble for leveling quickly. The build quality of the tripod is where it's lacking. This tripod is not sturdy enough to meet the rigors of pro use in the field. It would probably be great in a studio, where it wouldn't be moved around or manhandled too much. Also, the quick release plates are proprietary to Davis and Sanford -- they don't fit or transfer to the more common Manfrotto. Which isn't that big of a deal unless you're jumping around from tripod to other systems i.e. slider or steadicam. I've had mine a year and it's close to being completely broken. If this is all you can afford, it's a decent tripod for sub $150. Just be extra careful with it so it lasts as long as it can.

Great Tripod at an Affordable Price

Great tripod for the money. I especially like the easy-leveling head - you just twist the handle that sticks down from the head and you can instantly level using the built-in bubble leveler. This feature is especially handy when a quick adjestment of the legs is less than perfectly even. Fluid head is great for video and still photography, since small adjustments don't require any thumb-screwing. My only complaint is that the leg clamps are very stiff, making leg adjustments less-than easy. The overal weight also prohibits easy portability. So I have a lightweight tripod I can take on the road and use this one for studio shots.

Great tripod for the money

This tripod is light-years better for prosumer, classroom and moderate duty use than the cheapie tripods they sell in consumer electronics stores. The head is smooth and does a very good imitation of a fluid head, and control of the camera is about as good as you can get in the under-$1000 range for a tripod and head. The weight is reasonable, and stability and adjustability of of the legs are both excellent. The best value for a tripod in its price range that I have ever seen - we have three of them.

I love this tripod

I really love this tripod. It is very smooth and easy to use. However after using it for over a year on smooth ground, the release bolt on the head jammed and the camera can't lock in anymore. From the look of it, you can't just replace the head, but the entire tripod.

Good video tripod for the right price

This is one of the better tripod I have. The panning is smooth like butter, I can not belive how gracefull the drag is. I really have no complaints about it. But for the price you can not beat it. I saved a lot of money by not going out to buy an exspensive tripod. And beside that you have a professonial tripod with out breaking your budget.

Best Video Tripod for the Money!

I looked at many tripod systems before choosing this Davis and Stanford. I was very pleased with the quality of the product. One of the best values in tripods on the market. I'd highly recommend this unit.

Solid legs but lousy head

Solid light weight legs that could be improved by fitting an adjustable spreader. System is let down by a poor quality head, no friction adjustment, tends to be sticky on pans & tilts and the camera mounting is out of alignment with the bubble level by a significant amount so you have to do a visual alignment through the camera.

I found my dream tripod!

Others promise 'Fluid Like' feel, but nothing compares to the real deal. This purchase was one of my best investments. Adorama suprised me also by taking time to listen and understand my need. I ordered the ProVista 7518 in hopes of stabilizing my panning while using my zoom, from the back of our church auditorium. I was so shocked at how smoothly this equipment operated, with no sudden 'jerks' when the subject moved and I followed. I experience a slight draw-back tention after I release my hands from the double handle, but very little. I feel like a pro behind this Pro. And people can't tell the difference (smile). You will feel confident with this tripod.
