Consolidates lights and darks very well. Is small and easy to carry around or hang on a hook on my easel. Love it.

It does not show black and white. Instead it gives you a sepia colored filter that lets some color show through. Even so, I think it is still helpful for viewing tones.

This filter is now part of my everyday carry for landscape and other photography. The notion is to filter out color so that you can predict what your shot will look like as a monochrome image. This one gives a sepia-like look, but the tonal range helps you see it as it will be shot in B&W.

Very disappointed with filter. It is only a glass neutral density filter and does not "automatically" convert colors to B/W. Tiffen should've used a Wratten #90 filetr instead. -KS

This tool is well known to photographers that choose b and w as their medium. Gives a good indication of what will confront you during conversion. The tool is well constructed and comes with a lanyard for handiness in the field.

I LOVE Black & White Images and I "grew up" Photographically, shooting and developing my own Black and White Film. I also believe that even in todays digital age that a Memorable Monochromatic Image must be seen in that medium BEFORE it hits Photoshop. I bought this for use in teaching a Local Photo Club/Workshop because it is difficult for Beginning Photographers to actually "see" in Black and White. It has proven VERY helpful and I wish I had considered it sooner.

My past work has been predominantly color. Moving to B & W requires a different visualization process for which the #90 filter is most helpful. Few products exist that are as well designed and easily employed as this unit. Wish I could have a pair of glasses to do this job, but the brief use period to avoid 'brain compensation' back to real color would make this impractical. The right item at the right time at the right prices, what more could you ask for. Thanks

Very well made, pocket size, mine came with a small pouch - excellent for visualizing a scene in B&W. The device is an eyepiece like monocular that is deep orange in color. It works by removing all the color from a scene so that you can see just the contrast. It is very useful in 'learning' to see in black and white.

Tiffen Viewing Filter for black and white film.
Often called the "Director's" filter this hand held filter converts color scenes to shades of black and white.
It allows the photographer to "see" the black and white contrast and tone before finalizing the exposure.
