The 5.65 x 5.65" White Water Glass Full Spectrum IRND 0.9 (3-Stops) Filter is a revolutionary tool designed to meet the unique needs of digital cinematographers. In the era of digital motion picture cameras, where a single imaging device replaces various film types, the use of high-quality filters becomes crucial for achieving desired results. This Neutral Density filter is expertly crafted to control light exposure and enhance depth of field, especially in bright conditions where digital imaging devices can easily be overexposed.
Unlike traditional ND filters that use dyes and inadvertently pass small amounts of far red to near infra-red light, this filter is designed to provide a true neutral density into the IR spectrum. This is critical because digital imaging devices, while requiring higher-grade neutral density filters, are also sensitive to infra-red (IR) pollution. IR pollution can negatively impact image quality and color rendition, causing unwanted color shifts and potential focus issues.
The Tiffen Full Spectrum IRND 0.9 (3-Stops) Filter is specifically designed to combat these issues. It extends the light transmission characteristics into the infrared region of the spectrum, making it an essential tool for cinematographers using cameras like the Sony F and EX Series, ARRI Alexa, or Panavision Genesis. This filter allows for the use of heavier grades of Neutral Density filters while maintaining color balance, even when controlling far red and near infra-red.
This filter can also be used in conjunction with the Tiffen Clear Hot Mirror for Digital Motion Picture Cameras that use a CMOS chip sensor without an internal IR Blocking filter, such as the RED ONE and SI2K. This combination effectively combats near and far IR pollution across the range.
Manufactured using Tiffen's proprietary lamination process, the Full Spectrum IRND 0.9 (3-Stops) Filter ensures each effect is captured between two pieces of glass. This allows Tiffen to grind and polish both surfaces to achieve perfect parallelism, offering worry-free handling for cinematographers. The filter is made with Water White glass and is available in a variety of sizes, including 4x4, 4x5.650, 5.65x5.65, 6.6x6.6, 95C, 41/2, 138mm, 105C, 72, 77, 82mm wide angle, and Series 9. This makes it a versatile tool for any cinematographer's kit.
