Did a test shot. WB set to sun. Focus set to manual. Aperture set to f/16. ISO set to 200. Mounted on tripod with shutter release cable. No filter - the shutter speed was 1/30 sec. With filter, shutter speed 2.5 seconds. Approx 6x exposure time, which matches advertised ratio of 1:128. HOWEVER, the shot with the filter had a decided greenish-aqua color cast. This color cast can be removed easily in post processing.

These are the #1 piece of gear to grab for shooting on DSLR's during bright, sunny lighting conditions. The whole series of IRND filters by Tiffin allow you to shoot at shallow depth of field to create that iconic, filmic look.

Last year, I was selected as a beta tester for the new Nikon PocketWizard system, but I've been waiting until now to get my hands on the production models. Was it worth the wait?

Under the meticulous craftsmanship of Tiffen, the W77IRND6 77mm Filter Combination Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Infrared (IR) stands as a testament to high-quality and precision in photographic filter technology. Engineered to reduce ISO to 1/4, this filter is an essential tool for photographers seeking to control light exposure with finesse.
The ND 0.6 density offers a perfect balance, effectively decreasing the amount of light entering the lens by two stops without altering the color balance of the image. This allows for more creative control over shutter speed and aperture settings, enabling photographers to achieve a shallow depth of field or capture smooth motion in bright lighting conditions.
Crafted from Water White glass, renowned for its optical clarity, the filter ensures vibrant, true-to-life colors in your images. The absence of a sharp cutoff at infrared wavelengths means that the wide color gamut captured by modern sensors is preserved, ensuring that your images remain free from IR contamination. This results in crisp, clean images that truly reflect the scene before you.
Moreover, the durable construction of the filter ensures it can withstand the rigors of frequent use, making it a versatile addition to any photographer's kit. Its ease of use is further enhanced by its compatibility with a 77mm lens thread, a common size among various camera lenses.
The Tiffen W77IRND6 77mm Filter is not only effective in capturing the perfect shot but also offers greater latitude during post-production editing. It is particularly ideal for working with 8-bit compressed color, allowing for more flexibility and maintaining high image quality during the editing process.
In summary, the Tiffen W77IRND6 77mm Filter is an indispensable accessory for photographers who demand durable, high-quality equipment that provides effective control over lighting and color fidelity. Whether you're shooting landscapes, portraits, or fast-moving subjects, this filter is designed to enhance your photographic experience and elevate the quality of your images.
