Questions & Answers

Shopper : Would this lens work on a D3200 Nikon? the Tamron SP 150-600Brian H : “The Nikon D3200 is a 24.2-megapixel DX format DSLR Nikon F-mount camera officially launched by Nikon on April 19, 2012.” This lens is an F mount, built for a full sensor. Translation is it can mount to your camera with no adapter but will perform at a factor of 1.5 (ie 225-900mm). I used this lens on a DX camera and now on a full frame Z mount (with adapter) and it works fine. I had to download a software update for the lens to use on Z mount but that was it. Since the 3200 came out before the lens I’m sure it doesn’t require an update, but if the autofocus is slow or stalls, get a tap-in console (or borrow one) and update the lens firmware. Also consider if you need the lens. It’s heavy, expensive, and it’s range of application is so specific. I use it 1/50th as much as lenses I paid half the price for! But as much as I’m currently on vacation, it’s in the bag and hopefully will soon justify its size and weight. Bottom line is it should work. If it doesn’t perform to your satisfaction, update camera and lens firmware.GAYLEN B : I don’t know the answer.GARY S : It will work on all Nikon F mounts, whether full frame or DX, but will NOT work on the mirrorless series Like Z5 to the newest Z9 without and FTZ adapter.Jack S : It works on my D7000 which is also a Nikon F-mount. I see no reason why it wouldn’t work.MARK F : Yup. And since the D3200 is a crop sensor it would give the lens a reach of 225-900mm.SHERMAN P : It is a great lens very sharp but a bit of over kill as the D3300 is Dx vs the lens is a full frame. But it will still work very well just a bit of overkill. Sorry I have no working knowledge of a DX camera as I work in full frame only.HARRY L : Sorry, nor sure. I use it on my D850 and D810.Mark M : Yes.
Veronique F : Would that fit a Nikon 3300?Eugene H : I use my lens on a D90. This lens should work on all late model Nikon SLR's. I find the VC works well enough for hand holding when using shutter priority at 1/100 sec or faster, as long as the subject is not fast moving. Due to size and weight though I recommend using a tripod. My biggest complaint is the relative long time to zoom from 150mm to 600mm, as I use the shorter focal length to find my subject, then zoom to anywhere between 300 and 600mm. Finding your subject at such a long focal length is difficult with any lens on any camera. Another issue is that this lens does not function well in auto everything mode, but works in all other modes. Also manual focus is much faster then auto focus, as it tends to hunt back and forth to find proper focus, and auto focus just does not work reliability in dimmer light situations. I know I went well beyond just answering your question, but thought you should be aware of this lens' limitations. I really do like this lens and feel it is the best long focal length zoom lens available.ROBERT C : yes, we use on our d7100 and d5200. works great!Nolan H : Yes, it would fit. Have not used the “300” so can’t comment on performance. Should perform well. Happy with mine.Scott C : Yes it should.NANCY G : I would think so. It might be like attaching an elephant to a peanut based on the size & weight of the lens relative to the size & weight of the Nikon 3300, but if you get any Tamron lens that's specifically made for Nikon cameras, they'll work.SHERMAN P : I do not know for certain because I do not own 3300 but it works great with my 800 and on a 850. The mfg states it would work on a f mount NIKON I have no reason to disagree. I checked it works on two old film NIKONsMARK F : Sure will, and with your crop sensor it will be equivalent to a 225-900mm lens! How cool is that!!DUNCAN F : Yes it would fit and work. But it is intended for a full frame camera so unless getting a new full frame camera in the future you would be buying a lot of glass and not making use of it. It is a sweet lens though. Basically weather proof which is great for sports shooting
Rod W : Is this the correct lens to fit a Nikon 7100 ?Jack S : It works just fine on my D7000. My short answer would be "Yes."James J : I use it for the D800, 850. For me, it’s 150-600. For you, it’s essentially 225mm-900mm, given the 1.5 crop factor on the 7000 and 7100s. If that works for you, you’re good to go!samuel s : Yea it’s compatibleBrian H : Yes, it will fit the 7100 and the crop censor makes it as if it were up to 900mm. I got your question because I bought this l me and I happen to use it on both the Nikon 7100 and 7000 with no issues.ROBERT C : Or any other newer Nikon camera. We use on our 7100 and 5100. Love it for birding. my wife gets great hand held shots of birds in flight.FALGUNI S : I have used it with Nikon 7500. So Nikon 7100 should be OK. Please get used to this lens using it a couple of days before the actual shoot.GAYLEN B : Yes, and it is a great lens.MIKE B : it fits my d7200 which is about the same as yours, so yes it will work. Its an awesome lens

Used product like new and love it

Focus on the Tamron is really good above 250mm. not so much from 150-200. That being said I have taken the best shots of Alligators and Ospreys as it can get you real close fast. All in all the lens functions as Id hoped. It is a bit of a beast as far as weight though so be prepared.

Used it for quite a bit even when I cae acroff animals and birds. Focuses fast enough to get sharp photos and video during the day outdoors. WIth high ISO and stablization you can get it to work well indoors as well .

Solid lens, especially for the price point

This lens seems to be well built and works flawlessly with my Canon T7i. Autofocus is quick and spot on, pictures are crisp. I use it primarily for nature shots, birds and other wildlife. I do use a tripod most of the time as the combination of camera and lens is a bit heavy. I have taken offhand shots with no blurring or other problems.

I'm very happy with this product and I think it's a great lens for the price. Several of my photography club friends recommended this lens to me.

My new Tamron 150-600 mm G2 lens is tack sharp and so easy to use. It works so well in continuous mode. The wings on the humming birds that I photograph are so clear. I had a Sigma 150-500, but was never satisfied with the results. Tamron beats it by a mile!

Very good lens, best used with tripod if in lower light.

The lens is everything I expected; solid, dependable, not too heavy, focuses pretty quickly. The only reason I gave a "4" is that it needs a brighter/sunnier day. The wider front lens helps but you still need a larger aperture and higher ISO to let the best light in. You also need a fast shutter speed, if you are not using a tripod, since the size of the lens tends to make it a bit hard to hold steady. On the whole it is a very good lens but best used on a tripod if the light isn't right.

Perfect lens for my wildlife pictures. Great addition to my Niko D850. The G2 model is fast focusing, crystal clear at a reasonable price.

Fantastic lens with beautiful optics!

Fantastic lens with beautiful optics. Slight issue using it with my new mirrorless Canon R5, but I found work-arounds in the settings and it now functions seamlessly and I have been thrilled with my images.

Great new Tamron telefoto lens

The weather has not cooperated so I've only been able to use it once, but I'm impressed with the results. I used it to take close-ups of songbirds visiting my feeders and I'm very happy with the results. The photos were crisp, showing great detail on the feathers and the colors were true-to-life. It appears to be an excellent value for the price. This is a replacement lens for a Tamron 150-500 mm zoom lens I bought over a decade ago. That was a great lens but I've worn it out. I hope I get as many years of excellent service out of this new lens.

Happy with the Tamron 150 - 600mm G2

I was hesitant at first to go with this lens but finally bit the bullet and ordered. It arrived a few days later. My first impression was that is was well made and light for it's size and focal length 150 - 600 mm. I took it out the next day to photograph some Burrowing Owls. These are very small owls about the size of a hand. They are a protected bird, so getting to close to them and their nesting area is not allowed by law. That's where to 600mm end of the focal length comes into play. I decided to go hand held to see how everything worked out. I was quite happy with the results. The images were crisp and clear. The focus was fast and accurate. I did raise my ISO higher than I normally shoot to enable me to use faster shutter speeds. There are not many affordable options (for me at least) in the 600mm range. I am very happy with the purchase. One note, I am using this with a DSLR and not mirrorless.

Great Lens For Wild Life

So far it's been a great lens. Has some interesting setting for short or long focal length - a handy feature. The upside is it really brings in the wildlife, but be prepared if you want to hike and take hand held images, it's heavy, but I've gotten used to it.

About Tamron SP 150-600/5-6.3 Di VC G2

FEATURED REVIEWS

A Keeper

By OXFORD L.

After using the very sharp Canon 100-400 mark II, sometimes with a 1.4x extender, and getting good wildlife images, I wanted to shoot in lower light conditions at 600mm. Also, I was always having to swap the extender in and out. So, I gave this one a try. I am a pixel peeper and I have learned by microadjusting lenses that AF consistency improves, sometimes dramatically, when lenses are dialed in precisely. Also, that lens softness may be due to not micro-adjusting properly, So, I bought...

Lens quality great, VC and AF switches not so much

By TOM O.

I love the quality of my images with the G2 and all of the changes made from the first version but my big peeve is the VC and AF switches. They protrude above the lens body and I am constantly inadvertently knocking them out of position. This is a real pain. They are not protected like on Canon lens's. Trying to figure out how I might McGiver the lens to solve t he problem.

Take your photography to new heights with the all-new SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 Lens for Nikon F, Model A022. This next-generation ultra-telephoto zoom lens from Tamron is a remarkable upgrade from its predecessor, the SP 150-600mm Model A011, introduced in December 2013. Designed to deliver exceptional optical performance, this lens is perfect for handheld shooting, offering stunning definition and clarity.

The SP 150-600mm G2 lens boasts an advanced optical construction with 21 elements in 13 groups, including three LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements that effectively eliminate axial and transverse chromatic aberrations. Enhanced with eBAND (Extended Bandwidth and Angular-Dependency) Coating and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating, this lens ensures superior light transmission and minimizes internal reflections, reducing ghosting and flare even in challenging lighting conditions.

Versatility is a key feature of this lens, with a reduced Minimum Object Distance (MOD) of 2.2m (86.6 inches), allowing for impressive tele-macro photography and beautiful bokeh effects. The USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type motor provides excellent responsiveness and control, significantly improving autofocus speed and accuracy, even when tracking moving subjects.

Stability is enhanced with Tamron's VC (Vibration Compensation) system, offering an impressive 4.5 stops of image stabilization. The lens features three VC modes: VC MODE 1 for balanced viewfinder and image stabilization, VC MODE 2 for panning, and VC MODE 3 for prioritizing captured image stabilization.

The FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism allows for quick and secure zoom locking at any position, preventing unwanted zoom extension during shooting or transportation. Additionally, the lens is equipped with a Fluorine Coating on the front element, making it water and oil-repellent, and a Moisture-Resistant Construction to protect against the elements.

Compatible with the TAMRON TAP-in Console, this lens allows for easy firmware updates and customization of autofocus and VC settings. It also supports two exclusive tele converters, offering 1.4x and 2.0x magnification, extending the maximum zoom range up to an impressive 1200mm.

This comprehensive bundle includes the ProOptic 95mm Filter Kit, a Cleaning Kit, Lens Cap Tether, Lens Cleaner, and a Software Kit, providing everything you need to enhance your photography experience.
