Focus on the Tamron is really good above 250mm. not so much from 150-200. That being said I have taken the best shots of Alligators and Ospreys as it can get you real close fast. All in all the lens functions as Id hoped. It is a bit of a beast as far as weight though so be prepared.

Used it for quite a bit even when I cae acroff animals and birds. Focuses fast enough to get sharp photos and video during the day outdoors. WIth high ISO and stablization you can get it to work well indoors as well .

This lens seems to be well built and works flawlessly with my Canon T7i. Autofocus is quick and spot on, pictures are crisp. I use it primarily for nature shots, birds and other wildlife. I do use a tripod most of the time as the combination of camera and lens is a bit heavy. I have taken offhand shots with no blurring or other problems.

My new Tamron 150-600 mm G2 lens is tack sharp and so easy to use. It works so well in continuous mode. The wings on the humming birds that I photograph are so clear. I had a Sigma 150-500, but was never satisfied with the results. Tamron beats it by a mile!

The lens is everything I expected; solid, dependable, not too heavy, focuses pretty quickly. The only reason I gave a "4" is that it needs a brighter/sunnier day. The wider front lens helps but you still need a larger aperture and higher ISO to let the best light in. You also need a fast shutter speed, if you are not using a tripod, since the size of the lens tends to make it a bit hard to hold steady. On the whole it is a very good lens but best used on a tripod if the light isn't right.

Perfect lens for my wildlife pictures. Great addition to my Niko D850. The G2 model is fast focusing, crystal clear at a reasonable price.

Fantastic lens with beautiful optics. Slight issue using it with my new mirrorless Canon R5, but I found work-arounds in the settings and it now functions seamlessly and I have been thrilled with my images.

The weather has not cooperated so I've only been able to use it once, but I'm impressed with the results. I used it to take close-ups of songbirds visiting my feeders and I'm very happy with the results. The photos were crisp, showing great detail on the feathers and the colors were true-to-life. It appears to be an excellent value for the price. This is a replacement lens for a Tamron 150-500 mm zoom lens I bought over a decade ago. That was a great lens but I've worn it out. I hope I get as many years of excellent service out of this new lens.

What a crisp lens, beautiful pictures and easy to use, I like how you can put it on a monopod for help with the heaviness but you could also do handheld if needed

I was hesitant at first to go with this lens but finally bit the bullet and ordered. It arrived a few days later. My first impression was that is was well made and light for it's size and focal length 150 - 600 mm. I took it out the next day to photograph some Burrowing Owls. These are very small owls about the size of a hand. They are a protected bird, so getting to close to them and their nesting area is not allowed by law. That's where to 600mm end of the focal length comes into play. I decided to go hand held to see how everything worked out. I was quite happy with the results. The images were crisp and clear. The focus was fast and accurate. I did raise my ISO higher than I normally shoot to enable me to use faster shutter speeds. There are not many affordable options (for me at least) in the 600mm range. I am very happy with the purchase. One note, I am using this with a DSLR and not mirrorless.

Nice bokeh, great improvement over G1. Lens is sturdier and reacts more quickly. Loved the G1, and going to REALLY love the G2. Paired with a Canon 5Ds

So far it's been a great lens. Has some interesting setting for short or long focal length - a handy feature. The upside is it really brings in the wildlife, but be prepared if you want to hike and take hand held images, it's heavy, but I've gotten used to it.

A Keeper
By OXFORD L.
After using the very sharp Canon 100-400 mark II, sometimes with a 1.4x extender, and getting good wildlife images, I wanted to shoot in lower light conditions at 600mm. Also, I was always having to swap the extender in and out. So, I gave this one a try. I am a pixel peeper and I have learned by microadjusting lenses that AF consistency improves, sometimes dramatically, when lenses are dialed in precisely. Also, that lens softness may be due to not micro-adjusting properly, So, I bought...

Lens quality great, VC and AF switches not so much
By TOM O.
I love the quality of my images with the G2 and all of the changes made from the first version but my big peeve is the VC and AF switches. They protrude above the lens body and I am constantly inadvertently knocking them out of position. This is a real pain. They are not protected like on Canon lens's. Trying to figure out how I might McGiver the lens to solve t he problem.
- Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di USD G2 Ultra-Telephoto Zoom Lens -
The SP 150-600mm G2 (Generation 2) ultra-telephoto lens with upgraded optical performance enables handheld shooting with remarkable definition. This new lens builds upon the success of the current SP 150-600mm (Model A011) which Tamron first introduced in December, 2013, including better overall optical performance and faster AF speed, VC enhancements, plus Fluorine Coating, FLEX ZOOM LOCK and teleconverter. Rebuilt from the ground up to meet Tamron's strict quality standards and design specifications, this new zoom combines smart engineering and high performance with quality craftsmanship, durability and user friendliness.
Enhanced optics meet greater versatility
The SP 150-600mm G2 includes three LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements which completely eliminate axial and transverse chromatic aberrations. It also features upgraded optical construction (21 elements in 13 groups). Anti-reflection technologies, eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating improve light transmission and suppress internal reflections, including light reflected off the camera's image sensors. So even when taking a backlit or semi-backlit photograph, ghosting and flare caused by reflected light are fully eliminated.
Capture the moment with sharpness and accuracy
The Model A022 is equipped with the USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type motor that delivers excellent responsiveness and control. AF speed is significantly improved from current model and it enables accurate high-speed focus even when capturing moving subjects. When shooting with AF, the Full-time Manual Focus override allows you to instantly make fine focusing adjustments manually, without having to switch between modes.
- ProOPTIC 95mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit -
Pro Digital Multi Coated Filters
Pro Optic Pro Digital Multi Coated Filters are renowned for their ability to reduce flare and ghosting and minimize reflection. High quality components, from optically precise elements to lightweight metal rims, ensure the performance of today's multicoated lenses. Pro Optic Professional Digital Multi Coated filters are recommended for enhancing sharp contrast and balanced color.
The ProOPTIC Digital Essentials Filter Kit features
Ultra Violet (UV) Filter
Absorbs the ultraviolet rays natural to the atmosphere which often makes outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct. The color balance remains completely unaffected. The Multi-Coated UV filter is useful for color as well as black and white photography. This essential filter shields your expensive lenses from abrasion and stray damage as a front element protector. Filter Factor of 1x (no exposure change).
Circular Polarizer (CPL) Filter
Reduces glare and enhances color by selectively cancelling the amount of reflected polarized lightwaves caused by a wide variety of objects, such as glass from buildings, cars and vessels, the sky and clouds, foliage, precious gems, pavement, sand, snow and water. In landscape photography, a CPL can piercehaze revealing dramatic vistas, increase tone and color vibrancy plus give the illusion of depth. By carefully rotating the rings of the filter, you can observe the cancellation effect in the viewfinder to the degree that you desire. The filter has no effect on metallic substances as they do not reflect polarized light and little effect on flash as the light source must be polarized as well. The Filter Factor varies from 1.25x to 2x depending on the strength of effect.
Neutral Density (ND2x) Filter
Neutral Density filters evenly reduce the amount of light passing thru the lens without effecting color. They are ideal for situations when a narrow depth is field is needed and the lighting is too bright to allow for large apertures with your chosen shutter speed. Likewise, they allow for slower shutter speeds when you want to record objects in motion. ND filters are a must have tool for filmmakers as well. The ND Filter also lets you use high speed films in bright light, in case you haven't gone digital yet. The Filter Factor is 2x - reduces the light one f/stop.
- ProOPTIC Complete Optics Care and Cleaning Kit -
Cleaning Kit
The Pro Optic Cleaning Kit contains all of your lens cleaning needs for photography and video optics, binoculars and spotting scopes, filters and other glass elements, in one handy case. Pamper your lenses to the finest care. Use our safe and proven techniques to preserve the investment you have in made expensive precision optics. Never expose your lenses to industrial glass cleaners, rough cloths or even common tissues, which could affect performance and cause permanent damage. The handsome recloseable case holds a generous supply of agents to keep your photography clean.
Microfiber lens cloth
The reusable 7x7" microfiber lens cloth is the safe modern solution for coated optic care. Microfiber cloths are superior for photographic lenses as it is an extremely effective cleaning material that has exceptional ability to absorb oily matter without being abrasive or leaving a residue and can hold up to eight times its weight saturated in water. They can be used repeatedly dry or wet, in combination with the Pro Optic Cleaning Spray, to clean any optic. The cloth can be hand washed and dried for repeat cleansing performances.
Air blower
The rubber bulb air blower is your first choice to remove dust and debris from a lens element, as a hand powered air blower is the gentlest form of pressure to dislodge dust and is the least likely to have any unwanted effects on your lens. Air can also clean in cracks where a cloth cannot reach. The air blower is also your safest option for digital camera sensor dust elimination as it does not touch any of the critical sensor components. Sensor dust can leave dark spots on your captured images and cost hours in pixel editing and post production.
Lens cleaning spray
Our specially formulated pump bottle lens spray is formulated to clean your lens without leaving residue, while breaking down surface smudges, fingerprints and grime not lifted by the air blower, while protecting coated lens elements. The alcohol free spray mist is metered to deliver the right amount of solution to the surface.
Lens cleaning wipes
These 10 individually sealed pre-moistened 5x5" disposable wipes are the result of extensive research and testing and will restore the clarity of your delicate lenses, removing streaks, smears or other residue. The micro-fine fiber weave absorbent sheets are treated with an antibacterial agent, degreasing agent and antistatic agent. They can be used to wet prep the display screen of smartphones before installing protective shields that require nano adhesion.
Fine brush
The retractable 4" lipstick style fine brush is an excellent tool for cleaning in hard to reach areas, such as in gaps around the lens and rims of filters. The gentle hairs flex and have the ability to reach into areas where a cloth or wipe cannot or should not, venture. A protective cap keeps the brush protected for the next use.
Carrying Case
Sturdy fabric case with hook and loop closure for easy transporting, The holder bag is designed to be the perfect solution in protecting and carrying your cleaning System. Crafted from high-quality weather resistant nylon, the bag offers quick-access and rugged protection for any situation.
- ProOPTIC Universal Lens Cap Tether -
The ProOPTIC Lens Cap Tether keeps your lens cover linked to the optic at all times. An adhesive-backed disc secures the lens cap to the strong fabric leash connected to an elastic band that wraps around the lens barrel. When the lens cap is removed from the lens while shooting, the cover is tethered 5" out of the way, secure and ready to be replaced. Attach one to every lens and cap combination for proper protection in storage without searching for the right lens in your case.
