Works Great!

By Kionka

I just received the lens today! I am excited to take it out on a full photo shoot soon, but by just testing her out for the past few hours it feels, looks and works great. The build feels solid. The lens is not heavy at all, probably the same weight as a kit lens for the A7ii. I've attached a few unedited shots of my dog to get a feel for just how wide the shots are. It is great to be so near to your subject and get so much more coverage in a shot. Everything in the shot is sharp and wit...

Great all-round lens!

By Joey B.

This lens has a very good build quality. Its compact and light enough to take traveling and on adventures. Ive never used Tamron glass before but I can say it is super nice. Corners are sharp and little to no aberration. I bought this lens maily for astrophotography and it perfoms just as good as I hoped it would. A big upgrade from my Rokinon glass. Very happy to have purchased this lens, while saving some money compared to buying the 16-35 sony lens.

Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Lens for Sony E Mount

Tamron introduces the 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD, a full-frame lens with a versatile zoom for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. It has an f/2.8 maximum aperture which has a consistent brightness across its zoom range while having better control over its depth of field. It has Extra low dispersion (XLD) and low dispersion (LD) elements which help reduce chromatic aberrations and improve the color accuracy of your images. These elements also have the Broad-Band Anti-Reflection (BBAR) Coating to suppress internal reflections and lessen lens flare and ghosting, giving you better clarity, contrast, and color fidelity, especially when shooting under strong light conditions. The Tamron 17-28mm has the smooth and ultra-quiet Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive (RXD) autofocus motor that is essential for both capturing stills and shooting video. The Tamron lens has a minimum object distance of only 7.5-inches, which makes applying soft blurs to your shots easier and allows for better close-up shots. Have consistent and high-quality shots with the new Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Lens.

A Lens as Luminous as your Creative Vision

The Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Lens Model A046 achieves an astonishingly small diameter for a high-speed ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, as witnessed by its modest 67mm filter size. Its unprecedented light weight and compact size provide excellent balance when used with a full-frame mirrorless camera, making it easy to carry, and enabling it to cater to a wide range of scenes and shooting conditions. The Model A046 offers a fast F/2.8 aperture throughout the entire zoom range and delivers high-resolution and contrast edge to edge. The combination of ultra-wide-angle focal length, fast constant F/2.8 aperture and Minimum Object Distance of 7.5 in at the wide-angle end encourages richly expressive and creative photography in a multitude of scenarios. The Model A046's AF drive system is powered by the RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor unit, enabling it to deliver high-speed, high-precision and superbly quiet operation suitable for shooting video as well as still photographs.

A Lens as Luminous

Superior close-up shooting performance empowers creativity

The 17-28mm zoom features a MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m (7.5 in) at the wide 17mm end, rendering a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.2.

At the tele end, the MOD is 0.26m (10 .2 in) and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:6. You can easily get close for a powerful shot. Plus, you can produce soft expressions with a shallow depth of field distinctive to large aperture lenses by fully opening the aperture when shooting close to the subject.

The AF drive on the 17-28mm zoom includes an RXD (Rapid extra-silent stepping Drive) motor unit to help you stay focused on the action. A sensor that accurately detects the position of the lens enables high-speed and precise AF, which is ideal when shooting continually moving subjects or recording video. Perfect for street shooting and grab shots of groups of friends. Plus with a focusing system that is both smooth and quiet, the new 17-28mm lets you shoot a video without worrying about picking up ambient drive sounds.

My best wide angle

By FREISY N.

The image quality that I achieve with this lens is incredible, the distroctions are very minimal, the truth is that it is mounted on my a7 III works optimally.

Don’t spend more for a 1.8 zoom

By Elizabeth S.

This is a great lens. It does have a good bit of distortion on the 17mm end, which can be corrected in post. I can see no reason to buy a more expensive zoom.

Great wide angle for Sony E mount

By Ali A.

I had reservations about this lens. Nevertheless I preordered it based on the experience with the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 Di III RXD lens I have been using for almost a year now, which has not let me down yet. My concerns were about the image quality and the relatively short zoom range. After I got the lens and used for about two weeks, comparing it against side by side the Sony FE 16-35 f/2.8, I can tell you that the image quality is excellent and there are only a very few situations I can actually tell the difference between the Tamron and the Sony 15-35mm, and that's if I am pixel-peeping. It's very compact and lightweight, which is a huge bonus. It has the same diameter as the 28-75mm counterpart, so I don't have to get a new set of filters or step up/down rings, I can use the filters I already own. On the flip side, I do find the range a bit restrictive on the long end. For example, I can mount the FE 16-35mm and leave the house for a day of occasional street/urban shooting, and 35mm would be fine. But I can't say the same thing for 28mm. That said, this is my personal view based on my shooting style, and has nothing to do with the lens quality itself. If you want an affordable wide angle zoom for your Sony FE mount, this is it. Even if you're not using full frame, I this should make an excellent 25-42mm lens on APS-C cameras, as well. At this price point, in my opinion, Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 lens is hard to beat.

Good wide

By John T.

Like how light it is

Tamron does it again and creates another sharp lens with great autofocus to add to an existing E mount lineup

By Justin N.

The lens is a lot cheaper than competing lenses and with the zoom capability, makes it a great lens to use with a Gimbal. It’s a no brained not to get this lens if you already own the Tamron 28-75mm

A great wide angle alternative!

By Morada M.

Very sharp. Focus and zoom rings are smooth. Very lightweight for being a fast and wide lens Great autofocus, also silent. Definitely worth it if you need a wide angle zoom.

Great travel lens!

By Connor N.

I have been using this lens as my primary travel lens on my Sony A7iii for the past couple of weeks and I am extremely impressed by the corner-to-corner sharpness, even at 17mm. At 2.8, it allows me to capture wide landscape shots in low-light without having to bump up the ISO. While the zoom range is rather narrow, I think it will be the perfect companion to the Tamron 28-70 which I plan on purchasing in the near future after seeing how this lens has performed so far. Pros: - lightweight - decent weather-sealing - fast focus with the A7iii - 2.8 aperture is great for astro photography Cons: - zoom ring and focus ring are flipped compared to other lenses which takes a while to get used to - no built-in stabilization Overall fantastic lens for the price!

Best Overall Wide Angle Available!

By Austen B.

from Everett, WA, US

This is my new favorite lens! I currently own the Tamron 28-75mm lens and I love that one so much! It’s a great overall lens. The 17-28mm is perfect for landscape and Astrophotography. I was having to do a lot of panoramic shot with the 28-75 because I go into the high country and 28 just isn’t wide enough. 17mm is the perfect angle and haven’t had the need to do a panoramic yet. It’s extremely light and compact and has very minimal distortion and vignetting. If I had to pick one lens for landscape and astro, this is it! You definitely will not regret this purchase and I can’t wait to keep seeing what it can do! The photos I uploaded have not been cropped and have had no vignette or distortion corrections done. Just buy it already!!!
