Adorama's rating system did not disappoint with a E- rating I was unable to find any mark on the lens or anything wrong with it . The image quality from this lens is outstanding and has become my favorite lens

Haven't had a chance to use this particular lens yet but it is replacing the exact Tamron lens which stopped zooming in or out using the zoom ring but will zoom by turning the focusing ring and pulling out on the lens simultaneously. The old lens was used more often than any of my other lenses and I knew I wanted to replace it with the same Tamron 17-50mm lens. Great bang for the buck.

Good lens for the price but not a great lens. AF could be faster. It doesn’t snap to focus like the Nikon does. Images not as sharp as they should be from the reviews I read.

This rocks on DX Nikons -- using it on a D90 and D3200 as a general walking-around-lens. Very sharp and contrasty, especially at this price.

So far it is a high quality for a good price. I haven't used it enough yet to give it an extensive review.

Excellent lens for the money. Was a little surprised that it was made in Vietnam, but it seems to be the same quality as my old 17-50mm 2.8 that I had.

I have no issues with the lens, but the lens cap does not fit on over the filter offered with this kit. I would not recommend the extra money for the kit. Just get the lens.

After purchasing the Sigma 50mm 1.4 I was frustrated with my only wide angle option, a Nikon 18-55mm 3.5-5.6. I just was not getting the quality I'd seen others get on my same camera (D7000). I began looking at options, and ran across this lens. The price and reviews really had me excited, so I ordered a used copy. This lens is FANTASTIC. I really feel like I'll get many more years out of my camera thanks to the sharp image quality this lens affords me. I don't regret this purchase at all, and I especially recommend getting used gear from Adorama. The lens came exactly as they had rated it and I could not be happier.

I've only had this for 2 weeks but have used it for a wedding and my family sessions! I love the crisp shots I've been getting and the wide range it has! Great lens for the price!

This is my first Tamron and also my first business with Adorama. The lens was delivered a day earlier than promised. I used it on my D7000, try to take the advantage of a $75 coupon offer. It's the version with built-in motor. Its focusing is quick enough, just like the speed of my beloved Nikon 18-200 and the noise is bearable. But it has too strong back focus from 17mm to about 35mm, rendering this lens almost unusable at wider apertures within this range. The back focus disappears at 50mm and gives pretty sharp image at center even with aperture wide open at 2.8. I fine tuned the autofocus in-camera up to -18 to give acceptable results at 17mm-2.8, but then at 50mm it's not focusing right and gives blurry pictures. After 500+ pictures, I also discovered that the left side one-sixth of the picture seems always more blurry then the right side. I've sent back the lens and Adorama promptly gave me the refund. The customer representative handling my call was great. I will do business with Adorama again.

Overall, the lens is a solid and reliable lens. It feels very durable but is on the slightly heavier side. It comes with a lens hood which is helpful. The only real problem i had was with the auto-focus, sometimes its really hard to change the focus of the autofocus. It doesnt work very well in low-light situations either. The bokeh is not too bad, at f2.8 you still get that blur and fuzz.

I'm a casual photographer shooting various weddings and church events family portraits on locations. What I like about this product is its accuracy and its boldness an excellent wide Single for groups and Portraits. At a reasonable cost. I can't say anything bad about this lens. I find that it works for me. You give it a shot, click click Gotcha..

Great all rounder for an APS-C camera. A really unbeatable value if you don't have the cash for a Canon/Nikon brand of this type of lens.

I've had the lens now for about a week. Enjoy using it. Makes noise while focusing, but at least does it rather quickly.

My wife bought one of these lenses for her EOS 60D. After testing we found it a wonderful lens: lightweight, fast focusing, excellent sharpness and very little chromatic aberration. After I traded my EOS 1Ds for a 60D last weekend I ordered another Tamron 17-50/2.8 for myself. After receiving and testing it this afternoon I decided to return it immediately. Nothing in the frame is sharp, even at 35mm and f/8 using a tripod. The chromatic aberration is terrible. Backlit leaves and branches are completely purple. My wife's lens shows none of these faults. I would not recommend this lens to a friend. My wife got lucky with hers.

I purchased this lens to take on a caribean cruise. I needed a walk around general lens to use with my 7d. Although the cruise is next month I have been pleasantly surprised with the lens so far. I like the constant aperture, descent build quality and for the price I consider this a good value.

What I like about this lens is the price. Canon's version and even Sigma's version of this lens could be a bit expensive for some of us. This lens definetily gives you more versatility than your kit lens, especially in low light. What I don't like about this lens is that it is a bit soft below f4 (for my taste at least). Also I found out that the zooming ring was a bit rough. However I've gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me anymore.

Fast and accurate but noisey autofocus. Beautiful image quality just a pity its casing is plastic however for the price it is an incredible replacement for 550D kit lens.

Used on Wedding & location portrait shoots, stands up pretty well. Works equally well outdoors with a ND filter and in dark reception hall lighting supplemented with a speed light or two. Economical substitution for the Nikon equivalent, and is lighter in weight, has worked well for the last 6 months, is one of my staple lenses for portraiture. Moderate distortion at 16mm & f/2.8. Would & Have recommended.

After search reviews and comments I decided to buy this lens. It's a bargain for what the lens do. I highly recommended.

My first photographs with this lens were fine. It is my "go to" lens when I don't need a tele. I can't think of a better buy in this range.

Excellent Standard Zoom
By Steve M.
This is a great lens for shooting events and weddings, even indoors. I originally bought it to spend less time swapping primes when I didn't need an aperture greater than f/2.8, but it's now attached to my primary 50D at least 90% of the time I'm shooting. I haven't noticed any drop in sharpness from my primes at the same apertures. The included hood is a nice freebie since I didn't expect at that price point. My only minor complaint is the noise the AF motor generates that's a bit above ...

Best wide angle zoom for canon. Period.
By Sarah
Ok, for those of you who don't know much about lenses, know this: each lens manufacturer has its stars and it's duds. Even Canon. In certain focal ranges, a tamron might be better than a canon, or in a few cases, Tokina makes the best lens in that class. In this case, the tamron has it. In lab tests (you can review them at photozone.com) this lens outperforms the canon 18-55 2.8 IS lens by a longshot. It's sharper (almost off the charts sharp, from center to edges) and has very low chromatic ...
