Questions & Answers

Shopper : Does this work well with a D5100?FLETCHER S : Yes! It should work just fine. However, I think the Nikon 16-85mm is a much better lens.EDWARD W : Probably....I did NOT like the lens due to it continually creeping open...I sold it and bought the Tamron 16-300 which is my new go to lens.
Karen C : will this work with a Nikon D60?ROBERT L : Since the Tamron 18-270 has a built - in auto focus motor, it will work fine on your Nikon D60.JOHN B : ProbablyCHARLES K : It should since it works with my wife's D40 and my backup D70. No problem for a D60.PAUL D : It will work very well indeed with the Nikon D60. In fact, when I first purchased the Tamaron lens, I used it exclusively with my D60 and later on upgraded the D60 to a D5100 with which it works quite well as well. It is perhaps the most versatile lens I use. Not so much for professional high end photography but if you are going on a trip, cruse or whatever, not only will you only need to carry only one lens on your trip, it will yield pretty exceptional results. It is a great lens. Hope this helps.CATHERINE S. K : It will work, but it is DX not FX which the D60 is. I bought it when using the D90 but now it also works on the FX D750. It is a great walk around lens and I love it.ROBERT A : certainly.if you buy the Nikon lens arrangement,it will fit all Nikon models and then work. a very compact and very workable lens
JUNE B : will this lens work on a Nikon D3200?SEAN S : There should be no issue with this camera/lens combo. It should work just fine with the D 3200.KENT M : I've been using this lens for more than 3 years with no complaints. I use a D90 which has the aps-c sensor. I feel that if you use on D3200 and it has the c sensor you shouldn't have any trouble. If this lens has different lens mount the lens won't. If the D3200 has the full frame sensor, your images will have the 1.6 crop. This is an incredible lens with smooth operation and great sharpness. I think your next step should be to find which sensor the D3200. If does work, I would photo close up photos in manual mode. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.RONALD S : I don't know about a D3200. I am using it on a D50 and really enjoy it.ROBERT L : Since this lens has a built in auto focus motor, all functions will work fine in your D3200. I had one on my D5200, which, like your D3200 does not have a built in motor, and it functioned flawlessly. It is a great lens for travel where you need to pack light, or for anyone who does not like to change lenses a lot. I recommend it.DAVID T : Yes.I use this as my main lens on a Nikon D5100. It works great.DOM J : Yes.

My all round lens

My all round lens. I take it everywhere and get the best shots I am capable of. I am older and weight is a factor in my decisions.

The lens works well with my Canon EOS7D II ,the only quibble I have is that the zoom lock is finicky. The macro works well .I have not had a lot of walk around time with this lens yet but it is comfortable on my camera I recommend it

Tamron Zoom for Canon 18-270

I have only taken a few pictures to see if the zoom range was adequate fir my needs. So far I believe it is. I bought this to have a short lense with fairly long zoom range. The price was moderate.

Good single lens for Travel

Bought this 1 week before Italy trip, not much time to play with it. Used auto focus on the trip and when we got home at 1:1 they are slightly out of focus. When Playing with the lens when we were home I went to manual focus and the focus was good but the focus ring was very loose so I just sent it back to Tamron for repair. When I get the lens back I will manually micro adjust the lens to my camera. I like the size and weight of the lens for all in 1 travel lens

Worth it

I like that's it's two lenses in one. Still adjusting to its newness, ... it's a little stiffer to turn compared to the one I've had for awhile. Been shooting gymnasts... very tricky with the movement. But am able to get the shot when they're close to me or tumbling on the other side of the floor. Looking forward to using it more!

Good value for the price

Focuses faster and is much quieter than the Sony 18 - 250 zoom it replaced. Photo quality appears to be on par with the the original lens.

Tamron lens is a winner!

The 18-270 range of this lens makes it handy for close up and zooming. It is much better than a 'kit lens.' My pictures have improved using it!

Good lens for holidays but...

This lens is really good for people who want to shoot thru-out the day without changing another lens. But there're few disadvantages of this lens such as the lens got distorted @ 18mm - 24mm and It's a little noisy when it try to focus on an object. One little disappointment is that this lens only work on APS-C cameras, not on full-frames cameras. So please beware of that!. Overall, this lens is great! highly recommended!!

Sad but true

I have had for many years a Tamron 18-270 for my Canon 7D. I enjoy the versatility and have appreciated the clarity of its photos, especially for wildlife. When I bought a Sony mirror less 7Rii, I wanted the same lens. Tamron makes the lens for Sony but not E- mount, so I bought the lens and an adapter. I liked that it was smaller and lighter than mine. Perhaps because it needs an adapter, the focusing was so slow, I couldn't reliably use it for wildlife. Sadly, I returned both parts. I'm going to try the much more expensive Sony 24-240 lens. If Tamron made the 18-270 with an E-mount I'd give it a try.

Great versatile lens!!

Was SO tired of changing lens for close ups to distanced scenes!! Although you lose a very small amount of clarity (which you don't see unless you compare extreme closeups), I highly recommend this lens. I have MISSED so many great shots while switching lens. Makes life so much easier and a great stress reliever. Who wants added stress messing with lens on a vacation?

I love this lens. My hobby is going out & taking pictures of various trains. I love the fact that I don't have to change lenses to get the far away shots then try to the close up shots. I highly recommend this lens.

A good all purpose lens

I walk in the country every day and use my camera for landscapes, nature, wildlife and whatever I find interesting. This lens has exceeded my expectations. while not always professional quality the picture quality is very good through the entire range. It provides the ability to shot pretty much anything I run into; sunrises, turkeys, deer and other birds including great inflight shots.

Great Lens for Good Value

The 18mm - 270mm range and great optics makes this a great lens to have for all around photos. It's lightweight compared to other lenses I have had. I'm able to photograph flowers to landscapes with this lens.

This is my 2nd lens because the 1st was so good!

I bought the my original Tamron 18mm - 270mm lens a few years ago and have taken over 8,000 photos with it so far. My only complaint with the first lens was it was heavy and a little long to carry on the camera all the time. I bought the new lens because it's lighter and more compact than the firs, plus I now have a Canon 7D camera which is also heavy. My wife and I travel the world and I have used the original Tamron 18mm - 270mm lens almost exclusively - it really has a great range. I plan to use the new lens the same as the old one, but now I've got 2 cameras with the same lens so my wife can use one while I use the other. Her other camera was a small point and shoot, so this should be a marked improvement for her. In total, I have 4 Tamron lenses, and I have had excellent luck with all of them. My latest one was just used at a car show this weekend, and the results were great as usual.

Love this lens

I am an average Joe with a habit of taking lots of pictures when I go someplace. Not a professional by any stretch. I use a Nikon D3200 and I wanted a lens that would do it all and this one is that lens!! I recently went on a cruise and bought this lens specifically to take. My pictures came out WAAAYY better than the kit lenses. I definitely have no regrets spending the money for a good lens.

Great Lens!

I ordered this lens for my husband for our recent vacation because he didn't want to keep changing lenses. He used it at the Grand Canyon on a Canon 60D and got some good shots. I've used it to do some architectural shooting and it's pretty good at the 18mm end. It's a good lens to have on hand when you only want to take one lens.

Excellent All Around Lens

By Charles K.

My wife and I both have this lens. We both had the model before this one for a few years ... liked it so much that we bought the updated lens when it came out. We both keep this lens on our cameras over 95% of the time. for our needs. We had a photo shoot in Iceland, and it was perfect. Pictures came out great. One main advantage having such a versatile lens is that I don't have to keep changing lens thus not to worry about dust and dirt getting into the camera as I would normally. The...

Great all-in-one lens!

By JAMES K.

Purchased this lens for a trip to SE Asia on which I wanted to travel light. Perfect choice! Daylight shooting allowed for unlimited possibilities, nighttime shooting was great at less than 160mm zoom, above that was no better or worse than my Cannon 70-300. Auto focus is very fast and quiet with the Piezo motor, faster than the Cannon. I wish I had just purchased this lens with a body only camera, would have saved a lot on the kit lenses and the additional cost of an IS zoom. The "lens cree...

Tamron 60TH ANNIVERSARY MODEL 18-270MM Di II VC PZD - THE WORLD'S LIGHTEST, SMALLEST 15x ZOOM, WITH TAMRON'S FIRST PZD (PIEZO DRIVE) AF SYSTEM

A light, compact, ultra-high-power 15x zoom lens with PZD (Piezo Drive) the first Piezoelectric internal autofocus motor by Tamron exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C sized sensors.

The acclaimed Tamron 18-270mm VC ultra zoom for APS-C format DSLRs has reached an astonishing new level of compactness, performance, and speed with the addition of PZD (Piezo Drive), an innovative ultrasonic autofocus motor based on an advanced piezoelectric design. The result is a lens that's considerably lighter, and noticeably shorter and slimmer (filter diameter: 62mm) than any previous lens in its class, and provides faster, quieter auto-focusing.

Signature features that have made this amazingly versatile lens the world standard in its class have been retained. They include a 28-419mm equivalent (15x) zoom range, an improved, lightweight, compact Vibration Compensation (VC) system, macro focusing to 0.49m (19.3 inches) throughout, and, of course, superlative imaging performance.

Compact and Easy to Carry 15x All-in-One Zoom with Outstanding Feature Set
The 18-270mm Di II VC PZD boasts the world's highest zoom range at 15x magnification for a lens with its compact size and light weight, with the added value of Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization. At 15.9 ounces, measuring 3.8 inches in length (from mount face to the tip of the lens), and 2.9 inches in diameter with a filter diameter of ½62mm, it's a compact and easy-to-carry lens. A minimum focusing distance of 19.3 inches throughout the zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8.

Tamron's new PZD (Piezo Drive) autofocus technology delivers silent, high-speed autofocus in a compact lens
Ultrasonic motors are divided into two categories depending on the principle that generates the energy to move the drive: traveling wave motors and standing wave motors. Traveling wave motors include the ring-type ultrasonic motor used in the recently launched SP 70-300mm VC USD as well as other lenses, but this lens employs a newer technology, the PZD (Piezo Drive), which functions on the standing wave principle.

A standing wave ultrasonic motor utilizes high-frequency voltage to extend and turn the Piezoelectric (Piezoceramic) element, thus moving the entire element in a standing wave movement. The metal tip is the contact point of the element to the rotor, and moves in an elliptic motion from the swiveling motion of the moving element, and the friction from this motion turns the rotor. Standing wave ultrasonic motors have the distinct advantage of being smaller than their traveling wave counterparts, and therefore allow a more compact SLR lens size.

VC (Vibration Compensation)
Tamron's VC mechanism employs a three-coil system, whereby three driving coils activate the shake-compensating VC lens group electromagnetically via three steel balls. The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the steel balls, achieving smooth movement with little friction. This provides a stable viewfinder image with excellent tracking performance that eliminates the blur from handheld shots for cleaner, crisper shots.

New VC Mechanism (Moving Coil Method)
Tamron's original VC image stabilization mechanism utilized a moving magnet system whereby a heavy magnet was positioned near the moving VC lens element. In the new VC unit, the positions of the magnet and the coil are reversed, and because of this, the VC optical lens element is attached to the coil. The new VC mechanism employs a moving coil mechanism with a lightweight coil, and the lighter coil reduces the load on the drive system. Thus, the lighter, more compact new VC unit contributes to the lens's overall light weight and compact size.

Notice of Classification Code Change for Nikon Mounts
Since the introduction by Tamron of the first Nikon mount lens featuring a Built-in AF motor (AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC Model A20) all Tamron Nikon mount lenses with the Built-in AF motor had a model number designation of "NII." Lenses using a coupler system without a Built-in AF motor are currently designated as "N." As future Tamron lens introductions for Nikon mount will have the Built-in AF motor as a standard feature, Tamron has decided to simplify the designation and consolidate all Nikon mount lenses as "N," eliminating the "NII" designation for future models. This model designation change will be effective with the 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (Model B008) introduction.Compatible with Nikon DSLR cameras.
