I'm new to the hobby and working at getting to the point to do this on the side of my regular job. This is a great lens and very well built. Using it on a Canon 750D until i decide on a new camera.

I first used this lens for an event.i was very pleased with its performance. Used for a variety of shots from close ups to groups. Did have a couple of occasions when the AF failed and i got soft portraits for no known reason. Four missed shots from 200 shots is good. I would recommend this lens.

This was a very expensive lens I bought for a new Cannon 6D MKII. I waited to do a review until I used it for a while. After several months, I came to the conclusion it was not worth carrying in the field bag. I have a 10 year old "plastic" Cannon lens that takes better photos than this heavy glass lens. Very disappointed. When I first got it and first used it I left the image vibration switch "on" when I turned the camera off, like I have done for years with all my Cannon lenses. Big mistake, this lens runs the camera battery down over night if you leave the lens switch in the on position even with the camera off. ???? it put me in a bind several times before I figured out what was draining my battery. Now I never use the Vibration switch so I can't forget to turn it off. I wanted something between the two Cannon macros I have and the longer Cannon telephoto lens I have. I will keep looking. This lens may be good for portraits, but not for nature photography.

I'm using this lens with my Nikon D810 and am very happy with the quality and ease when working in mixed lighting. I recently worked a venue that was fast moving from indoor to out, no problem at keeping up and staying sharp.

I'm upgrading from 8 yrs of shooting DX. While bigger and so is my D750 from my D7000 and 17-50mm, they look too much alike! I had no regrets buying the 17-50mm and I doubt I'll have any here. To date the Tamron 70-200 G2 doesn't leave the D750. But I also acquired a D800, which is also new to me. he combination is very satisfactory. I use it with a flash I am also getting use to. Getting the light right has been a bigger issue than the camera and lens. I wish I had the G2, but at the discount of the older model I couldn't afford to pass this lens up. Optically supposed to be the same. It is too early to write a review. But wanted a chance to win a prize.

Wonderful standard/normal zoom for Canon FF bodies. This replaces my EF 28-80mm, f2.8-f4L USM and the Tamron is just as sharp in the center as the Canon "L" lens, while much sharper at the edges and corners. Makes a wonderful wedding/event lens, as well as a general purpose zoom. Also works on Canon crop 1.6x/APS-C and 1.3x/APS-H bodies, just not quite as wide FOV as the FF bodies. A fantastic value compared to Canon and Sigma equivalents.

I find this lens will focus quickly and accurately. On top of that as and added bonus it is very quiet. It is a little heavy for my normal work however the VC helps tremendously. I use this on my Nikon D-810 and D-700. I've been very pleased with the color and sharpness.

I was disappointed that one of the first things out of the box was a slip of paper advising me that the lens doesn't utilize Sony's AF-D (Hybrid Phase AF). That's a significant feature on several Sony bodies. It should advise of that shortcoming on the lens' specs on this site and/or on Tamron's. I will say that my critical testing proved the lens is very sharp and has a lot of nice optical qualities, and it has a 6 year warranty. Sony? Sigma? Are you listening? But the auto focus limitation is a big shortcoming. The lens also fails to show up in the a99II EXIF data. It shows the focal length and aperture used, but does not identify the lens. Fortunately I bought the lens from Adorama and was able to return the lens immediately for a full refund and I purchased the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 Vario-Sonnar T Zeiss ZA SSM II instead. I want to take full advantage of what that camera can do. Thanks Adorama!

I've had this lens for about 2 weeks now and I wanted to hold off writing a review until I have shot with it enough to know how good this lens is. I was skeptical at first buying anything but a Nikon lens, but thought I would give it a try. I can tell you that 2 weeks in and a wedding done, that I am impressed with the performance of this lens. It's sharp, I didn't have a burred photo in 2000 images and my images look fantastic. I was worried about another review I had seen that the lens had to hunt for it's subject too long. I didn't find this to be the case at all. I highly recommend this lens.

Amazing value! Lens is SHARP. I dropped a star because it does “bump” when VC is engaged, but I’m still testing it. Quality is very good - and rates higher than the Nikon version in sharpness. I never believed that third party lenses could be better.

I have had this lens for a couple of weeks so obviously not able to comment on long term quality. The images I have captured with it have been crisp and the bokeh at wide apertures is beautiful. It is heavy but easily manageable as a walking around lens. Focus seems fast enough for my purposes. Close focus is very good.

I have been shooting with this lens for over a week. I have shot about 8 basketball games. The clarity and images are awesome. I now am only carrying this lens instead of all my lens to every game. I can't stop shooting with it. My new LOVE!!

Tamron SP 24-70mm Di VC USD / Canon
By Pixel N.
I just purchased the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 with a Canon mount today. It is sharper than my Canon 24-105mm f4 which is sharper than every Canon 24-70 f2.8 series one I have tried. It is just a fraction sharper than my Canon 17-55 f2.8. Unlike my Tamaron 17-50mm f2.8 VC, the autofocus is fast and silent. The color is also great. With f2.8 and IS it is the best of both worlds. It will join my Canon 70-200 f2.8L II in my camera bag. I purchased this lens for [$]. This price will probably go up. C...

Well worth the money!
By PAUL S.
I recently bought a D600 and thought that I would try this lens instead of the Nikon 24-70 mainly due to it's vibration compensation and lower price. I was surprised with the IQ of this lens. Beautiful bokeh, sharp images, nice colors, and great VC. This is definitely a gem of a lens. Good job Tamron!
Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD (Model A007), the world's first full-size high-speed standard zoom lens equipped with VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization and USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive), with resolution at the top of its class.
VC (Vibration Compensation)
VC (Vibration Compensation) is Tamron's proprietary image stabilization system. Tamron's VC is a three-coil system, whereby three driving coils activate the shake-compensating VC lens group electromagnetically via three steel balls. The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the steel balls, achieving smooth movement with little friction. This provides a stable viewfinder image with excellent tracking performance. And as the VC lens may be moved in parallel using only the motorized control, the mechanical structure has been simplified, enabling the creation of a more compact lens.
New VC system (moving coil method)
Tamron's original VC image stabilization mechanism utilized a moving magnet system whereby a heavy magnet was positioned near the moving VC lens element. In the new VC unit the positions of the magnet and the coil are reversed, because of this the VC optical lens element is attached to the coil. The new VC mechanism employs a moving coil mechanism with a lightweight coil, and the lighter coil reduces the load on the drive system. Thus, the lighter, more compact new VC unit contributes to the lens's overall light weight and compact size. Because the 24-70 mm F/2.8 Di VC USD is a high-speed zoom lens with maximum aperture of F/2.8, its VC system must drive a lens that is larger and heavier than other zooms. Therefore, the shape, size and layout of the drive coils are all designed to obtain sufficient thrust. The result is a full-size, high-speed zoom that provides the same high level of compensation effect.
About the ultrasonic motor
In the ultrasonic motor, a piezoelectric element arranged in a ring formation generates ultrasonic vibrations in a metallic ring stator, and the vibration energy is used to rotate a metallic ring rotor that is attached to the stator. The rotation energy is in turn transferred from the metallic ring rotor to operate the focus lens.
