This outstanding lens works flawlessly on my Canon mirrorless bodies, including the R5 and R6 mark 2. For photography, it is just as good as the new RF 35mm f1.4, and the EF 35mm f1.4 Mark 2 - at less than half the cost. It is heavy for a 35mm prime, but is built like a tank. Image quality is outstanding. I will use it for photography, as I rarely do video.

The best 35mm for Nikon F mount, I've used this lens along with the Nikon 35mm 1.4, the Tamron wins hands down. Sharp @ 1.4, fast focus and punchy images are what makes this lens special. I've sold my Nikon 24-70 going back to primes for the ultimate in picture quality and performance. You won't regret this gem work great on crop sensor too,'m using D850 & D500.

Cannot believe the quality and clarity and sharpness of this lens For no more than it costs compared to my Nikon lenses.

My first experiance with the Tamron was with the 35mm f/1.8. I reluctantly sold that lens to afford another items. Every time that I took a look at the photos that I had made with that lens I promised myself that I would buy it again. When the time came to make the purchase I was swayed to go for the 1.4. I'm very glad that I did. Both the f/1.8 and the f/1.4 bring a certain kind of character to my images that are pleasing to my eye. I am found of low key B&W images and this lens just nails that look for me. Color is correct, rich and vibrant. I shoot with the Z6, D810 and the DF.

This lens is heavy! But it creates gorgeous photographs with crisp lines and vibrant color. The auto focus is fast and accurate.

The best 35mm 1.4 for Canon, especially when adapted to an R5/R6 with the variable neutral density filter adapter. Absolutely insane footage.

Love love LOVE this lens! It was my first real big purchase for glass, and I am thoroughly impressed. It hits focus 100% of the time, and something I especially love is that there is virtually zero chromatic aberration in any of my photos. This is a solid upgrade if you are looking to invest in a 35mm prime lens.

Great, sharp lens! I have been wanting a 35 1.4 for a while, but Nikon's is quite expensive. So glad I bought this.

After countless reviews and videos praising the virtues of this piece of kit, I pulled the trigger and ordered my own copy...I have never been more pleased with a lens! I haven’t taken it off my 1DXMK3 since it’s been put there! You may know the cold numbers and facts about this piece of glass but until you get it on your camera, you won’t know it’s Soul!

This lens is awesome. It's SHARP and lighter than the 35II from Canon. I needed another fast lens and this one fits the bill perfectly. Getting it on sale is a huge bonus too. Don't hesitate to buy this one if you love the 35mm aspect.

Just might be my favorite lens I've ever used. The image quality is just ridiculously good, fast focusing and it's weather sealed. The only con I have for it is that it's just a bit heavy. This is one lens that I will never consider selling. Ever.

Exquisitely sharp, the sharpest lens I've ever owned. Very soft bokeh, and beautiful color reproduction. Extremely happy with the image quality. Auto-focus is generally solid, though it's not as fast at locking on as my Tamron 15-30mm or my other Nikon lenses. The only real downside is that it is fairly heavy for a 35mm prime, though it balances well on my Nikon D750. If I could wish for one change, it would be for image stabilization, but I suppose I could have taken a small hit to image quality and gone for the Tamron 35mm f/1.8 instead. I chose the maximum image quality over the lighter weight and IS, and I'm very happy with my choice.

As Ken Wheeler (the Angry Photographer on YouTube) said, this is one of the few wonder lenses in the world: sharp, great rendering/bokeh, fast autofocus. Better than the Nikkor 35mm F1.4G (which I traded in). Just like the Nikkor, it's spine bending heavy. Not ideal for discrete street photography even if you are build like a young Arnold Schwarzenegger because it's blatantly big (just like him).

Very nice lens! Fast aperture! Only con: Canon 5D4 does not support peripheral illumination correction for this lens (or maybe for any 3rd pary lenses), such that the Vignetting is a little bit obvious at f/1.4, 1.6, 1.8 (Become better after f/2.0). RAW should be fine, while I usually do jpeg only.

A beautiful, weighty lens. My whole kit is full of Tamron glass, but having the 1.4 on this with the BBAR coating creates some beautiful bokeh and creamy images.

This lens is compact, sharp and solidly built. Tamron said they put in their best in this one and you can only agree to that once you hold it. Autofocus is instantaneous and precise, i noticed no back or front focusing in my copy. Compared to other lenses and I can confirm its a true 35mm lens,no focus breathing.Optically this lens is up there with the very best, i know cause i compared it to my trusted 105 1.4e. Great contrast, no vignetting and distortion that i can see in my unscientific tests. The only glitch i noticed is in the worst possible scenario, bokeh will look a bit nervous. You won't notice unless you subject the lens in the most critical of tests like i did in the attached pictures. It's noticeably heavier than what we are used to in 35mm lenses , but if you are a guy like me that carries lenses like 70-200 2.8,, 24-70 2.8., 105 1.4e you won't complain. Its well made and balances well on my Z6. Right now its on sale for $200 less, for me that's a screaming and unbeatable deal compared to what you are getting. Just go for it, you can't go wrong with this one.

First off, I love the build quality of this lens. Tamron obviously put a lot into its design. I, unfortunately, got a bad copy (though I don't really believe such a thing is that prevalent). After 4+ hours of focus tests and camera adjustments, I decided I wouldn't be able to work with this lens with any real peace of mind. I'd get it fairly corrected for close focus, then the distant focus would suffer, and vice versus. Aperture changes didn't improve anything. But I bought it to use at 1.4-2.0 range. Also, when comparing it with side by side shots of the same object taken with my Nikkor 85 f/1.8G, the Tamron lacked a considerable amount of image detail. (This was for a close up focus). Also underwhelming was the color rendering of the Tamron. The best I could manage in any respect was about average rendering, along with the focus inconsistencies. Your experience with your camera body may differ, and I hope it does. It really is a handsome lens that balances well on a FX body, despite its weight. I believe mine was defective, but even so, I wasn't willing totry a second copy and invest another half a day to tweak a lens that coasts so much. I have high hopes for third party lens makers because market competition is healthy. Again, I hope my purchase is an outlier. I would like to be able to turn to Tamron again if this isn't a pervasive issue. For now, I purchase a Nikon replacement from Adorama, and can't complement Adorama enough on their customer service.

This lens is very high quality. The images produced with this lens are very sharp and flaring is well controlled. I adapted this lens to my A7iii via the Sigma MC-11 adapter and I have been impressed with the AF performance. Now it isn't as fast/accurate as the newer Sony glass, but I would say that it is on par with the original Sony Zeiss lens AF performance. Overall this is rated as one of the best designed 35mm lenses you can buy and for that I am happy with the results.

FINALLY a great 35mm prime for Nikon!
By JOHN P.
I have used a variety of 35mm prime lenses for Nikon FX over the years, including Nikkor 35 1.4g, Nikkor 35 1.8, Nikkor 35 fd, Sigma's 35mm 1.4 Art lens, Zeiss 35mm f2 distagon, among others, but this is the best lens of the crowd -- a real pleasure to use with results that are outstanding. There are not many reviews to date, but my experience is that the lens is excellent and that the image quality, rendition, and overall "character" of the lens is exceptionally good. Thanks Tamron and Ador...

Tamron commemorates the 40th anniversary of its SP series with the new SP 35mm F/1.4 Di USD Lens for both Canon EF and Nikon F-mount cameras. The New Tamron SP 35mm lens features the proprietary USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor for fast, quiet, and precise autofocusing. The USD also has a Full-Time Manual Focus override system which lets the user have manual focus control without switching to a dedicated MF mode in their camera. The lens is coated with the new Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2 (or BBAR-G2), which reduces ghosting and flare while letting you achieve better levels of contrast. It also has a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture that allows for shooting under low-light conditions, while enabling exceptional control over depth of field which is needed for yielding crisp images. The lens comes equipped with a dynamic Rolling-cam mechanism, developed exclusively for this lens. This ensures that the AF system works reliably, especially when shooting under harsh weather conditions. Create crisp photos and stunning bokeh with Tamron’s SP 35mm F/1.4 Di USD Lens.
"We want to deliver a perfect image to people who love photography." That’s our obsessive goal for all Tamron lenses. This goal forms the basis of our concept for the SP 35mm F/1.4 Di USD (Model F045). The exceptional image quality of this fast fixed focal lens makes it worthy of being the lens that marks the milestone 40th anniversary of the SP (Superior Performance) Series.
Uncompromising resolution at wide-open aperture combines with a velvety bokeh defocus blur that gently blends away from the ultra-sharp focus area. Ghosting and flare are suppressed to the utmost degree by the newly-developed BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating. Additionally, our new and exclusive Dynamic Rolling-cam mechanism enables the heavy F/1.4 focusing unit to move with incredible accuracy at high-speed.
The SP 35mm F/1.4 Di USD produces genuinely beautiful bokeh defocus blur both in front of and behind the plane of focus, a characteristic shared with Tamron's legendary 90mm F/2.8 macro lens. The major difference is the fast F/1.4 aperture. Normally, as the lens aperture opens subtle on-axis chromatic aberration appears as color fringe.
Tamron has long been an innovator of coating technologies that prevent ghosting and flare. Second-generation BBAR-G2 Coating is a groundbreaking advancement that provides vastly improved performance compared to the original BBAR Coating. The coating corrects for ghosting and flare to an unprecedented extent, and renders fine subject detail with true clarity and stunning contrast even under backlit conditions.
