To help you fully enjoy its excellent portability, the 70-180mm F2.8 VC G2 is equipped with TAMRON's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization mechanism. This suppresses camera shake that tends to occur when shooting handheld at the telephoto end or during close focusing for stable shooting results. It's also highly effective when shooting in low-light conditions that often lead to camera shake, like evening and low-light conditions or dimly lit indoor scenes. Moreover, using AI technologies, the lens selects the appropriate compensation characteristics for videography at focal lengths of 100mm or less to powerfully support the inherent optical performance of the lens.

The AF drive of the lens employs the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism. With astoundingly agile performance representing a high mark in TAMRON's history, this AF system faithfully fulfills the intentions of the photographer with an extraordinary precision of 0.005mm, less than one-tenth the width of a human hair. Furthermore, these precise calculations have been applied to further enhance the tracking performance of moving objects such as vehicles and sports action, ensuring you never miss decisive scenes whether shooting still images or video. In addition, the quietness offered by the linear motor system provides nearly silent performance when using the lens in conditions where noise needs to be minimized.

TAMRON has accepted and overcome the challenge of shortening the MOD so that photographers can enjoy greater freedom when composing images. By optimizing the optical design, close-distance shooting that was possible only with manual focus on the 1st-generation model is now possible with autofocus on the 2nd-generation 70-180mm F2.8 VC G2. Compared with its predecessor Model A056, TAMRON has succeeded in shortening the MOD (Minimum Object Distance) to 11.8" (0.3m) at the 70mm end and 33.5" (0.85m) at the 180mm end. Plus, the working distance at the 70mm end is as close as 4.7" (12cm).

This expands the possibilities for expression with a single lens, allowing you to take another step forward or utilize soft, beautiful bokeh in your shots. In addition, with an outstanding maximum magnification ratio 1:2.6 at the 70mm end, you can create unique and powerful compositions that capture your subject in extreme detail. Compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility software
The TAMRON 70-180mm lens is compatible with the dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility software (for PC and Android OS) that was developed in-house by TAMRON. TAMRON Lens Utility lets users change lens settings, assign camera body functions, and update to the latest firmware when necessary. In addition, when using the mobile version, functions unique to the mobile version can be operated remotely without touching the lens. Users may customize functions for various still photography and videography shooting styles, thereby providing a more personalized and fulfilling shooting experience.

Unified 67mm Filter Size
Nearly all TAMRON mirrorless lenses have a 67mm filter size. This allows you to use the same filter among a wide range of lenses. PL and ND filters are typically expensive, so sharing saves money. Additionally, this eliminates the need to search for caps with different diameters when switching lenses. All lenses in this series are compact, lightweight and extremely portable, making it easier when carrying multiple lenses at the same time.

Zoom Ring, Focus Ring
Grip texture has been improved by redesigning the striped pattern on the rubber focusing and zoom rings. Certain internal parts have also been enhanced. These advancements result in smoother overall operability. TAMRON has also adjusted the stiffness and torque of the zoom ring to facilitate smoother and more precise operation.

New Sculpted Shape
The diameters of the zoom ring and focus ring have been enlarged, and the body areas around them have been slimmed down to give the lens a contoured profile that makes it easier to grip. This creates a comfortable, uneven shape that fits snugly and naturally in the hand.

Deep, Luxurious Black Exterior Finish
The surface of the lens exterior is shiny black, much glossier than previous models. Improved abrasion resistance makes the lens harder to scratch and resists fingerprints.

A 9-blade diaphragm is configured to retain a smooth, circular-shaped aperture opening even when stopped down by two stops from the wide-open aperture. This produces a smooth-edged bokeh in background highlights.

BBAR-G2 Coating

Zoom Lock Switch
The 70-180mm F2.8 G2 has a switch that can lock the zoom ring at the 70mm focal length if desired. This prevents the unwanted extension of the lens barrel due to the weight of the lens during transportation.
