Only giving 4 stars because the zoom ring is at the end of the lens. Other than that it's a great lens.

This lense renders skin beautifully, yes it's sharp but not prime sharp, which isn't a bad thing. Colors rendition is excellent. The Vibratation control in the lense allowed me to capture a a tack sharp in focus shot at 1/50 of a second handheld zoomed out past 100mm

Love the quality of pictures this lens produces. I can't imagine spending twice that much on a Nikon lens would produce twice the quality.

So far so good! The only negative is how easily the auto focus button gets moved. Sometimes I don?t realize it got moved when I sit it down between shots.

I have been using this lens now for more than 2-years and it has really made a difference in my wedding photography. The lens is built tough, quickly finds focus even in very low light conditions, has wonderful bokeh, and is tack sharp. Stabilization works fantastic, with hand-held shots at 1/15 of a second possible--though try not to do this if possible. Be forewarned though, after 8-12-hours of wedding work, you will feel this lens--this is not a light lens. If there is a challenge that I would suggest being addressed in a future version, I would ask that the three selector switches on the lens barrel be recessed or guarded better to prevent accidental change. The work around is simple, visually check the switch selection by glancing at them when raising the camera up to take a shot.

Having used this lens for a couple of years now, I have found it to be razor sharp and tough as nails. This is not your run of the mill plastic lens. This lens is a well built, all aluminum and glass. No issues with this lens except it is a fuzz slow on focusing but still the best lens of this size for the money. I have and will continue to recommend this lens to anyone who asks and some who dont ask.

You won?t get a better 70-200 for this price . And it?s better in some ways than the Nikon 70-200

I really wanted this Tamron lens to improve the quality of my photography services and be less intrusive in Liturgical events or just capturing candids. I was not disappointed! The lens captures amazing pictures and opens my flexibility since I can keep my exposure constant at any focal length (70-200mm). It is an excellent addition to any portrait or wedding photographer at less than the price of other brands.

This is a great lens, built very robust but not too heavy to carry for long periods. Photos are super sharp and the bokeh is great. Buy it , you will not be disappointed!

A little heavy for every day shooting and it's my least used lens, but I like it's speed and it's quality.

First off, you should read a proper long form review before making a purchase this large. However, I will say my expectations were greatly surpassed upon receiving this lens. The build quality and feel of the lens is fantastic. Coming from a 400g zoom, the increased bulk of this lens was not actually that big of a deal. The lens is front heavy, but the balance point is well place, allowing for easy access of the focus ring and switches. Accessing the zoom ring is less ideal. The image stabilization is highly effective and utterly silent. It doesn't quite hit the claimed 5 stops of assistance, even in mode 3. However, I have hand tremors, so getting a comfortable 4 stops of IS is impressive nonetheless. Autofocus isn't as fast or quiet as Canon's USM, but it's close. Accuracy and confidence are not an issue. Manually focusing this lens is surprisingly nice at f/2.8 thanks to the smooth focus ring and longer then average focus throw. Though I've yet to find a situation where'd you want to manually focus when you have access to such an effective AF system. Sharpness is incredible, even on a 24 MP APS-C body there really isn't much point in stopping down. My copy of the lens is also just as sharp at 200mm as it is at every other focal length, in stark contrast to what's found in reviews. Either Tamron made some adjustments in the past few years or I just got a golden copy. On a similar note, bokeh is incredibly soft, with no outlining or concentric rings to speak off, it's near perfect. I haven't used the Canon or Nikon versions, but besides slightly faster and quieter autofocus I really fail to see what would justify paying double over this lens. It's built like a tank, and functions beautifully. Just don't go into it thinking have such a nice lens will automatically make you take better pictures. If you don't specifically require the action stopping shutter speeds and shallow depth of field this lens offers, you are wasting your money. Get a cheaper F/4 zoom instead.

Excellent image quality and good autofocus on my Canon 5D Mark III. It's very sharp, I really love this lens. I updated from the old Tamron 70-200. Just 2 things that bug me - 1. The switches are really easy to accidentally hit and move, especially if you carry it on a crossbody strap or holdfast harness like I do. It bumps up against my leg and moves the switches. A few times I've missed a shot at a wedding because it had switched to manual focus accidentally. If I carry it on the left side of my body it reduces the accidental hits, but still happens sometimes. I "fixed" this by putting some velcro straps around the lens over the switches so they can't move (you can also use gaffer's tape). 2. This is a personal preference, but I liked how the zoom ring on the old model was near the back of the lens (closer to the camera). This model it's near the front of the lens (reversing the place of the focus ring and zoom ring). It's a bit awkward for my hands to reach to the front of the lens to zoom. It's taken quite a while to get used to.

I got this lens because i could not get the Nikon one before my trip to Iceland in July. It worked very well, but the focus ring and the zoom ring are in the "wrong" place if you are used to the Nikon model and the buttons on the lens barrel change position easily without notice.

This is a fantastic lens. It?s sharp and acquires focus fairly fast. My only complaint is how easy it is to bump the vibration control (VC) switch. I have accidentally turned this off while walking. Keeps an eye on the switch to ensure your images are tack sharp.

This lens is amazing!!
By Chris B.
I am not a professional, but I have used a variety of lenses before. The VC on this lens is unparalleled. I can comfortably take sharp photos at 200mm with 1/5 shutter speed. You look through the viewfinder, half press that shutter button, and the frame just locks in place. It's amazing. That alone would make this lens worth the cost, but honestly it's just a beautiful piece of equipment that I trust I will have for years to come.

SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Model A025
All features overhauled to create an accomplished, top-grade high-speed telephoto zoom lens
All-new optical design
Any aberrations thoroughly compensated for resolving power enhanced across the entire zoom range
Minimum Object Distance (MOD) reduced from 1.3m (A009) to 0.95m (A025)
Fully compatible with dedicated tele converters
Excellent backlit performance through the application of eBAND Coating
Improvements of individual functions
The VC system now achieves an image stabilization performance of 5 stops according to the CIPA standard (when using VC MODE 3) and three situation-specific VC modes
Dramatic improvements in AF speed and responsiveness
Moisture-Proof and Dust-Resistant Construction adopted
Fluorine Coating applied to the front surface of the lens element
External design fully overhauled
Uncompromising craftsmanship with careful attention to minute details based on the rigorous quality standards for the SP series
Functional beauty achieved by smoothly combining engineering and design aspects. Exquisite and high-grade design featuring a metal-based barrel
All-new optical design achieving the highest-level performance
The optical design has been completely overhauled in comparison with the previous model (A009), and superior performance and resolution is now ensured across the entire zoom range. Outstanding optical performance that is uniform and well-balanced is maintained, not only in the 70mm wideangle range but also in the middle focal ranges and the 200mm telephoto range. Using the A025 in combination with a dedicated tele converter attached makes it possible to fully enjoy ultra-telephoto photography while maintaining excellent optical performance.
Improved depictive quality in the wide-angle focal range
With transverse chromatic aberrations minimized, improvements have been made in the periphery of the image plane on the wide-angle side. Its deliver the sharpness and high resolution in the periphery.
Improved depictive quality in the telephoto focal range
Deploying the LD lens element has minimized axial chromatic aberrations occurring on the telephoto side.
The optical design of the new A025 consists of 23 elements in 17 groups. 1 XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and 5 LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements are used. The optimum deployment of both of these elements completely eliminates chromatic aberrations, which tend to become particularly prominent in high-speed telephoto zoom lenses.
The optical design was completely reworked to better accommodate the higher pixel-density digital cameras of the new era. Considering the need to also maintain excellent image quality when using a tele converter, creative ideas have been incorporated to the utmost to consistently ensure high-level performance. As a result, outstanding resolution and contrast reproduction performance is achieved across the entire zoom range.
For the new A025, the designers placed importance on its spectacular background blur effects, a significant factor comprising the depictive quality of a high-speed telephoto lens. Soft, beautifully-tune d background blur effects (bokeh) worthy of a high-speed lens have been achieved as a result. Both the sharp, clear images in the area in focus and the impressively smooth and soft transition to the background accentuate the main subject in an attractive manner in portrait photography, etc
In response to the strong requests of customers using the A009, the predecessor model of the new A025, innovative ideas have been incorporated into the cutting-edge optical design to reduce the Minimum Object Distance (MOD) from 50.7 - to 37.4 for the A025. With a shorter working distance possible, it is easier to determine the composition in a location where there is no more space for the photographer to back up with the camera, enabling close-up photography using a telephoto lens with much greater flexibility. Shooting at and around the minimum focus distance allows for close-up photographic expressions, just like macro photography.
eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular- Dependency) Coating is a nano-structured layer applied to the lens element surface. In addition to regular anti-reflection coatings, eBAND Coating offers higher light transmission and significant improvements in anti-reflection characteristics, particularly against angulated incident rays.
Combined with BBAR (Broad-Band Anti- Reflection) coatings, flare and ghosting are reduced to imperceptible levels.
Improved VC Performance, Function and Usability
The incorporation of two micro computers has reinforced the control performance of Tamron's unique VC system, which now achieves an image stability performance of 5 stops according to the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) standard for the A025 (when using VC Mode 3). Even for telephoto shooting in low light, which often tends to be affected by camera shake, the photographer can now enjoy handheld shooting with a much greater degree of freedom.
Model A025 now has three types of VC modes, and it is possible to choose the optimum VC mode according to the situation for taking a photograph, such as when wishing to pan the camera.
VC Mode 1 is the standard mode that strikes an excellent balance between the stability of the viewfinder image and the stabilization effects.
VC Mode 2 is used exclusively for panning.
VC Mode 3 prioritizes the stabilization of the captured images and forgoes the stabilization of the viewfinder image
With the optional TAMRON TAP-in Console accessory, the configuration of VC Mode 1 can be customized. Choose the viewfinder view with either standard or viewfinder image priority.
The Model A025 is equipped with an USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type motor that delivers excellent responsiveness and control. AF speed is significantly improved from the current model, and it enables accurate high-speed focus even when capturing moving subjects.
When shooting with AF, the Full-time Manual Focus override allows you to instantly make fine focusing adjustments manually, without having to switch between modes.
Ideal for use in outdoor photography, Model A025 offers Moisture-Proof and Dust-Resistant Construction, thanks to special moisture-proof and dust-resistant sealants used at every joint and seam. The sealant material helps to prevent the intrusion of any dirt, dust or water droplets compared to conventional moisture-resistant construction.
The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is waterand oil-repellant. The lens surface is easier to wipe clean and less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints. 26
The Arca-Swiss style quick release plates can be easily attached and detached and are well known for their stability. A new tripod mount that is compatible with them has now been developed, with particular attention paid to the height of the tripod mount to enhance its integrated feel with the lens barrel in this design, with an increase in rigidity when using a tripod. The use of lightweight magnesium alloy as the material has further eased the burden of carrying the tripod mount for each photographer.
Two exclusive teleconverters, which perfectly match the optics of the new SP 70-200mm G2 (Model A025), offer 1.4x and 2.0x magnification, and provide a maximum zoom range of up to 400mm. These new teleconverters extend the focal length of the master lens, making it possible to take pictures in farther ultra-telephoto ranges. Autofocus and VC features are retained with this Model. Furthermore, they are ideal for use in outdoor photography when matched with any lens that has a Moisture-Resistant Construction. The teleconverters have special seals that are dust-resistant and moisture-proof used at every joint and seam. Compatible with Canon EF DSLR cameras.
