Questions & Answers

ROBERT B : Will this work on a Canon 6D?CHRIS T : I don't own a 6D but I have done a lot of research since I was considering buying a 6D and I own this lens. The 6D is an EF mount and that's what the lens was originally designed for so it should work great with the 6D I recently bought a 70D which is an EF-S mount and I was concerned about compatibility, but I had the opportunity to try it on the 70D before buying it and it works great! I haven't regretted buying the 70D. The lens and the camera work very well together. I use this lens a lot in my photography and I have no issues at all. Bottom line, the lens will work on an EF or EF-S mount just fine.FRANK M : Absolutely. All Tamron "Di" lenses provide an image circle large enough to work on full frame cameras. The "Di ll" lenses are for crop sensor lenses and so are not suitable for full frames sensors. This lens is light, and sharp, and captures images with nice color and contrast. It is also a good portrait lens. The 6 year warranty helps make it a good value. Take care of it and it should serve you well.JASON V : I am not sure if this lens will specially work for a full frame dslr. But being the information on the lens does not state if the lens is for crop sensor or full frame specifically.GARY B : I think it will Robert but I am not positive. I have really enjoyed mine and think it was a great addition to my camera.JEAN U : The Tamron 90mm is a EF mount so it will fit your 6D and all the D series-full frame camera bodies. I have liked this lens for ease in focusing, the good image it makes and the price is reasonable compared to the Canon 100mm macro.Gerald K : Yes it will work great on the Canon 6D. That's what I use it on. The Tamron Di lens are for full frame cameras and the Di II is for crop frame cameras. Check the Tamron web site.
PAUL W : Will this work on my Canon 5D Mark III? I understand it has vibration reduction and auto focus? Thanks, PaulJOHN G. M : It will work with any EOS body and has VC. I have used the lens several years and have nothing but praise for it. If something happened to this one I would get another.JOHN G. M : As I understand it, they will work with any canon EOS camera. The newer model does have VC , and I have the older model which I use on a Rebel T2i and a 60 D. I love the lens, it has auto focus but I find it easier to use manual and I also generally use a tripod. I have used it for several years now and am always pleased with the results. When they are off, it seems it is always the operator's fault. 8-)CLAUDIA C : Yes, it has vibration reduction and auto focus. Definitely a nice lens. I use it on a Canon 7D, which is not a full frame camera. I presume that it would be fine on your camera, but I would check on the Tamron website just to be sure.WYNTER C : It should work. I use it on my Canon 7D and I haven't had problems with it at all. Debbie M : Yes, I use it with my Canon 5D Mark III with no problem. I originally used it on a Canon Rebel XSi - so full frame or APS-C, no problem for this lens. You switch between auto and manual focus by sliding the focusing collar of the lens until you hear it click into place. I rarely use auto focus when shooting macros. The lens does not have built in image stabilization.BRIAN B : Yes, the lens is compatable with the 5D Mark III. It does have auto focus and Vibration Control (VC), but be sure to read about the VC feature, even google about it, before using it. There are some quirks with VC and IS (Image Stabilization) or most camera's. I have had good luck with it thus far on my 5D Mark II. I have also used it with a 2X converter for a 2:1 ratio with success. The converter I use is a Tamron SP AF. enjoy!CLAUD R : Hi! I have a Canon 60D and it works well with that. I believe the 5D Mark III is a full frame sensor, so I'm not sure about compatibility? Some websites show it with the 5D. Surely someone at Adorama would know.JOHN H : Dear Paul, I am not sure if this is compatible or not with the Canon 5D Mark III. I would recommend contacting Adorama to verify this prior to purchase. It is a great lens for the money and you can get some incredible macro images if you are patient. If I were to do it again depending on your budget I would recommend the Canon Macro 100 mm lens with image stabilization.
Shopper : To run on a Sony NEX 5 camera, would I need to get an adapter of any sort? Or will it directly attach to my camera??CLAUDIA C : I don't know for 100% sure, but I assume that, unless Tamron makes a model specifically for Sony cameras, yes you probably do have to have some kind of adapter. I know that this lens is made in models for Canon and Nikon, but I don't know about Sony. Sorry.BRIAN B : I would call Tamron's Please contact Tamron's service department at 1-800-827-8880 for details on this lens fitting the Sony Sony NEX 5 body. I do know that back in Dec of 2011 Tamron announced the 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC superzoom for the E-mount used on Sony's NEX cameras. Assuming that the NEX 5 is an E-mount body you stand a good chance of a compatable fit. Sorry I don't have a difinitive answer...the best I can do this time...JOHN G. M : Sorry I do not know but I know Tamron is very prompt about answering emai and would give you a quick answer..GARY S : Sorry, I don't know. I think you need to buy the specific lens for your camera make. Mine was a Canon and that's what I did.. Hope this helps.

Good lens for the money

Right out of the box this lens performed. I'm a semi pro photographer, meaning I don't make a whole lot of money. but I purchased this to do macro shots for wedding rings and such. Well I experimented and found that it is also great for portraits close up and I didn't have to spend a grand or more for a competitor.

Perfect Lens at an afforable price

This lens is tack sharp and excellent for use as both a portrait and macro lens. Although I ususlaly like to use Canon products, I have found that the Tamron SP lens produces a much sharper image than their regular consumer lens at a much better price than the Canon. Its a good buy and a qulaity product.

Best Buy for Canon Macro

If the lower price were not a factor, I would still choose the Tamron 100 Macro over the more rugged Canon 100 Macro. There is little difference in sharpness at most apertures. The Tamron is shorter and lighter. I prefere the softer look of the our-of-focus backgound which is a nicer blend (bokay). Autofocus is not as quiet as the Canon lens. The newest Canon has IS, but this may not be useful in macro work when the lens must be stopped dow to f/16 for DOF and the Macro IS Canon is much more expensive. Because the lens is set back no lens hood is needed unless you use a filter. The front element of the Canon is at the end of the barrel and needs a hood.

A little fragile

Takes great shots, but I dropped it from no more than a foot, and the lens hood and filter thread broke off. Still works, just a little disappointed with the build quality.

Excellent Macro Lens

It is an excellent macro lens - very sharp, no distortion, great colors and contrast. Mine had a front-focusing problem that only showed itself wide-open, but Tamron took care of it quickly under warranty. The focus is quick enough for action, but is no USM - it does hunt some, as would be expected of a typical macro (the barrel also extends during focusing, but that allows it to stay an actual 90mm at 1:1, unlike the Canon that is more like a 70mm at 1:1). The build quality could be better, but it is an acceptable trade-off for its almost pocketable size.
