I think this lens is incredibly sharp considering the price. The focus motor isn't the fastest but it will get the job done. The MF/AF lens switch does feel a bit cheap but, everything else is solid and I am very happy with my purchase.
Love this lens, almost becoming a goto
I love this lens, used on a D850 and D500. Great macro lens shot daughter prom portraits and loved the results, very sharp Only thing i dont like is the aperture rings that doesnt always lock and if it moves slightly will cause camera to show an error, but once i experienced it on both my Nikons it was easy to recognize and remedy

The Tokina atx-i 100mm F2.8 FF MACRO is a compact medium tele macro lens for full frame format film and digital SLR cameras. Being light-weight, compact, performing high resolution, fast aperture, low distortion, low falloff and beautiful soft bokeh this lens is extremely attractive tool for macro, portraits, landscapes, street art, commercial and general purpose shooting.
The optical design of Tokina atx-i 100mm F2.8 FF MACRO features zero curvature of field and extremely low distortion while maintaining super high resolution across the entire image along with low falloff and perfectly controlled chromatic aberration. Multi-coating applied to optical elements effectively control flare and ghosting.
The One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism makes switching from AF to manual focus (MF) simple. While in AF mode the user only needs to snap the focus ring back toward the camera to engage "real" manual focus control. This gives photographers an authentic tactile MF feel with hard stops on either side of the focus range like traditional manual lenses. Additionally, the directional rotation of the focus ring matches the direction of proprietary Nikon and Canon lenses.
The front of the lens has a 55mm filter threads which extends during the focusing but does not rotate. This allows different filters including polarizers to be used for landscape or product photography.
A focus range limiter switch on the side of the lens locks the lens focus into or out of the macro focusing range to avoid excessive AF hunting.
The Tokina atx-i 100mm F2.8 FF MACRO Nikon F mount is equipped with manual aperture ring based on Ai AF Nikkor D-Type lens standard that allows to use this lens with wide variety of cameras including old Nikon film cameras.
Note: When used with Nikon DSLRs that do not have a focus motor in the camera body like D3000 and D5000 series only MF mode is available.
