The main purpose of this filter is to precisely control the amount of light entering the camera lens without affecting the color balance. It's particularly useful in conditions where exposure needs to be maintained using a stronger ND filter, as it reduces infrared pollution.
Accu-ND Technology is an innovative feature from Kenko Tokina that creates a Neutral Density filter. This technology allows the filter to effectively reduce infrared pollution without the need for continual white balance adjustments during a shoot or color shifts correction in post-production.
Unlike other IRND filters that cut the near infrared from a particular wavelength, the Tokina PRO IRND filter suppresses rather than cuts the infrared up to 1200nm. This method is more effective in eliminating infrared pollution and doesn't produce unwanted color shifts.
This filter is designed to be used with cameras that have a 105mm lens. It's always best to check your camera's specifications to ensure compatibility.
Yes, the square/rectangular style of the Tokina PRO IRND filter has an ND vapor deposition coating sandwiched between two layers of glass. This allows for the filter to be re-polished if it gets scratched, extending the lifespan of the filter.
Review Summary

I purchased this filter after seeing great reviews for it on Youtube, it was consistently rated better than the more expensive filters, it was not until after the purchase that I noted in a couple of reviews that these filters although excellent are somewhat fragile, in one review it was recommended that the filter only be used in studio settings. I am still happy with the purchase, I am a still photographer that uses these filters in landscape photography often in somewhat harsh environments, mountain streams and waterfalls. Because I use this with Canon wide angle lenses I had purchased 105mm filters to go on lenses with 77mm filter threads using a step up ring to avoid vignetting, to solve the fragility problem I purchased somewhat inexpensive 105mm UV filters to protect the ND filters from the elements, I also purchased lens caps because Sigma makes a great lens cap for about $10 that fits the filters perfectly. I use a rear UV filter to further protect when not in use.

The Tokina 105mm PRO IRND 0.6 Filter - 2 Stops is a high-quality, effective, and durable solution for professional photographers and cinematographers. This versatile filter is designed to precisely control the amount of light entering your 105mm lens without affecting the color balance, making it a reliable choice for shooting in various lighting conditions.
Unlike many high-end cinema cameras, which lack a built-in low-pass or IR cut filter, this Tokina PRO IRND filter combines both IR and ND capabilities. This unique combination helps to mimic the human eye's ability to receive as much data as possible from the image subject. However, the more sensitive cameras are to light, the more exposure needs to be maintained using a stronger ND filter, which can create infrared pollution.
To counter this, Tokina's PRO IRND filter utilizes innovative Accu-ND Technology from the development team at Kenko Tokina. This technology creates a Neutral Density filter that effectively reduces infrared pollution without the need for continual white balance adjustments during a shoot or color shifts correction in post-production.
Available in both round and square/rectangular styles, the Tokina PRO IRND filter features an ND vapor deposition coating. The round filter has this coating on both sides of the glass, ensuring high precision and true neutrality. Meanwhile, the square/rectangular filter has the coating sandwiched between two layers of glass, allowing for re-polishing if scratched, thereby extending the filter's lifespan.
Unlike other IRND filters that cut the near infrared from a particular wavelength, the Tokina PRO IRND filter suppresses rather than cuts the infrared up to 1200nm, eliminating infrared pollution more effectively and without producing unwanted color shifts. This makes the Tokina 105mm PRO IRND 0.6 Filter - 2 Stops a superior choice for professionals seeking to maintain true color fidelity in their work.
