Review Summary

I purchased this filter after seeing great reviews for it on Youtube, it was consistently rated better than the more expensive filters, it was not until after the purchase that I noted in a couple of reviews that these filters although excellent are somewhat fragile, in one review it was recommended that the filter only be used in studio settings. I am still happy with the purchase, I am a still photographer that uses these filters in landscape photography often in somewhat harsh environments, mountain streams and waterfalls. Because I use this with Canon wide angle lenses I had purchased 105mm filters to go on lenses with 77mm filter threads using a step up ring to avoid vignetting, to solve the fragility problem I purchased somewhat inexpensive 105mm UV filters to protect the ND filters from the elements, I also purchased lens caps because Sigma makes a great lens cap for about $10 that fits the filters perfectly. I use a rear UV filter to further protect when not in use.

When capturing cinematic visuals with high-end cameras, the Tokina PRO IRND Combination IR and ND Filter is an indispensable tool. Unlike most cameras that lack a built-in low-pass or IR cut filter, this innovative product is designed to mimic the human eye, absorbing as much image data as possible.
The sensitivity of cameras to light often necessitates the use of a stronger ND filter to maintain exposure, which can lead to infrared pollution. To counteract this, many camera manufacturers recommend the use of an IRND filter. However, many IRND filters on the market today can cause color shifting and require constant white balance adjustments to maintain true color fidelity.
The Tokina PRO IRND filter, crafted with precision for the art of cinematography, eliminates these issues. Developed by the expert team at Kenko Tokina, this filter incorporates innovative Accu-ND Technology to create a Neutral Density filter that precisely controls the amount of light entering the lens without affecting color. This revolutionary filter stabilizes color transmittance throughout the visible spectrum, providing a solution to infrared pollution without the need for constant white balance adjustments or post-shoot color corrections.
Available in both round and square/rectangular styles, the Tokina PRO IRND filter is versatile and durable. The round filter features an ND vapor deposition coating on both sides of the glass, ensuring high precision and true neutrality. The square/rectangular filter, on the other hand, has an ND vapor deposition coating sandwiched between two layers of glass, allowing for re-polishing if scratched, thereby extending the filter's lifespan.
Unlike other IRND filters that cut the near infrared from a particular wavelength, the Tokina PRO IRND filter uses suppression to eliminate infrared pollution up to 1200nm. This method is less likely to produce unwanted color shifts, making the Tokina PRO IRND filter a superior choice for professional cinematographers and photographers.
