My favorite lens

Amazingly clear and great in low light...from sweeping landscapes to tight architecture shots this is a wonderful lens. This is the lens I enjoy using the most.

Exellent Wide Angle Zoom for Nikon DX

This lens works perfectly with my Nikon D90. Sharp images with little distortion and minimal falloff at the corners. Push-pull auto focus ring is great. Lens is plastic but feels very solid. You will need to go with the updated version of this lens if your camera doesn't have an internal focus motor.

Everyone Needs This Lens

Seriously, this lens is a must for every photographer. Bought this to use with my D5100. Although it is a bit heavy, the build quality is excellent. And, as always, superior service and great price from my friends at Adorama.

Solid Lens

I got this lens primarily for video. It is built like a tank and came with a hood. I am very pleased with it.

High Quality, High Functionality

I don't have a lot to compare this with, but it works as advertised and is a great product for its price. I don't think the Nikon lens, which costs about 3 to 4 times as much, would work any better. One reason I purchased this lens is that I have a trip to Europe planned, and I love taking picture of architecture and landscapes, and I am sure this will be very useful. Some have said it's a bit heavy, but there is a lot of glass in this lens. The f 2.8 makes it work well in low light. I think this is worth the money and am pleased with my purchase.

Excellent lens

The first time that I tried this lens was for night shots of old architectures in Europe and the results were great even without a tripod. I would highly recommend this lens to anyone.

Great lens! Just what I expected.

This lens provides just what I was looking for as a casual photographer. Although I have encountered a few minor issues when shooting indoors in very low light conditions, they have not been significant. Awesome landscape photos, particularly in capturing wide angel reflections off of water. I am pleased! Ordering experience at Adorama could not have been easier. Great service.

Simply the best¡

Is really noticeable the difference between 11 and 18 mm. The rooms look so spacious that appear elsewhere. The constant 2.8 aperture is very convenient.

Lives up to the expectations

The lens behaves as in all serious reviews on the net: fast focus, sharp pictures, with lots and lots of chromatic aberration. On my D80 though, it back focuses above 14 mm in average and poor light. D300 owners say is way better. Waiting to upgrade to a D8000(?) and then ...

great value wide angle

This is a great wide angle lens at an unbeatable price! The wide angle is just right - you're able to get great wide landscapes, and there's also a distortion "sweet spot" if you want to play around with that as well. It would've been great to get a biiiit more zoom on it - say an 11-24, but it's not a big deal.

Nice wide-angle zoom

I use the lens to get the whole subject when I have to shoot from close in, especially due to crowds. An example would be shooting a popular subject at a car show.

A must have

This lens is absolutely necessary of you do any sort of indoor photography. The 2.8 aperture enables you to take photos in normal light with no flash and no blur.

Great value..solid product

I am doing real estate photography projects and web site work and I find that with care I can nail some shots that really set apart my work from what one normally finds. The lens has typical Tokina rugged construction, with that it might be a bit heavy, but for my uses it is fine. I haven't done any specific sharpness testing, but I couldn't be happier with the results at f8 and f11. To my eye, autofocus seems to be dead on. As an aside, I chose this model (without HSM) because of my intended uses. I expect that it will remain set in manual focus mode for most of its life. I had a wonderful time taking some family shots with it...the humongous DOF let me take some shots that I never would have tried (shots on the grass and street that were fun perspectives). The super wide has given me a ton of new ideas and opened my eyes to new photo perspectives. On the downside, it does not seem to work with auto focus in Liveview on a Nikon D7000. Naturally all is fine with manual focus in Liveview...all my tripod based photos are shot that way. This problem is why I gave it 4 out of 5...4.5 would be closer to my real rating. The lens does what I wanted, seems well built...what more could I ask for? After a couple of weeks and a few hundred images I would definitely buy it again.

Great UWA for your DX quiver of lenses

I only recently purchased this lens, so it hasn't seen tons of use yet. However, I think it is going to hold up well. It feels solid in hand. The focus ring was not nearly as loose feeling as a youtube review claimed. It does have a bit of wiggle. Switching from auto to manual is a snap - literally, snap the focus ring back or forward! I've used it both indoors and out. So far, I am very happy with it. I am getting consistent images. I considered the Nikon 10-24DX because of its range, but was drawn to the Tokina's f2.8 aperture. Even though many shots will be made with a larger aperture, I like the low light flexibility. I do wish Tokina would have either gave us 10mm on the wide end or expanded to 18 or 20mm on the zoom side. I would have accepted the larger lens in place of having more range or more wide angle. This would have added to its flexibility. It is a bit prime-like. Auto focus is quick in my opinion. You can see a couple images I took in low, not so complimentary light (PNW in winter!) with a D7000. Both shots were handheld in tripod conditions.

Great extreme wide angle lens

I use this lens on a D300s and have been very happy with results. A specialized use, I use it to shoot backgrounds for chromakey (green screen). You can clearly notice the difference in the 11-16 range. The extreme wide angle works great for my purposes. My next lens step up is to a 35mm then a short zoom. My DX sensor provides the 1.5x view so the lens shots are great for landscapes, waterfalls, pathways

Awesome lens for the price!

I still haven't used it as much as I'd like yet, but so far so good. Great quality lens and takes excellent pictures. Still getting used to the wide angles I can shoot with it, but it's a lot of fun.

Nice lens for the price

It's a nice wide angle lens. So far I haven't been able to adjust to low light. This lens was recommended to me for low light. I am still working on that. Other than that I am happy with this purchase.

Highly recommend and saves me money

I am a real estate agent and like to take my own photos. I had to hire photographers that had wide angle lens because my lens was just not wide enough. I started looking into wide angle lens but was confused. I borrowed a friends lens and the pictures that I took looked as good as the professionals,if not better! I researched the Tokina lens and the reputation was as good as the ease of use...and now I am a proud owner and taking my own interior photos, enjoying it and also saving myself money!

Great lens

This lens was kind of a leap of faith for me. I have been pampered over the last 12yrs, and only having to utilize one specific manufactures products. This lens not only suprised me, but it has become a permenant addition to my kit since its arrival.

Tokina 11-16mm Specifications

About Tokina 11-16mm

The new Tokina AT-x 116 PRO DX is an ultra-wide angle lens with a fast f/2.8 aperture for better photography in low-light situations. Many photojournalists consider having an f/2.8 aperture a must for any lens in their camera bag.

Based on the award-winning optical design of the AT-x 124 PRO DX (12-24mm f/4) lens, the new AT-x 116 PRO DX has a slightly shorter zoom range to maintain optical quality at wide apertures.

Tokina's exclusive One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the camera to focus manually. There is no need to change the AF-MF switch on Nikon cameras** and there is no second AF/MF switch on the lens for Canon, everything is accomplished by the focus ring.

Please Note
The lens is designed for Digital cameras with APS-C sized CMOS and CCD sensors, not designed for cameras with Full Frame sensors.
Will not AF when used on Nikon D40 SLR camera body
