Questions & Answers

asdf f : This still lens have the same glass as Tokina Cinema 11-20mm T2.9 ATX?
PAUL S : How good is this lense for architectural work?Conrad F : Not sure what you mean by "architectural work", but I find it is great at inside shots as it is relatively fast and it covers a wide area. It is not a tilt-shift lens so it doesn't fix perspective issues, but again with its wide angle you can be closer to the subject and still get it all in with minimal distortionEddie M : Although I no longer own this lens, this lens worked excellently on a micro 4/3rds mount camera. It showed too much vignetting on the Sony A7R3 with the Metabones mount. Other than that, for architecture, this gem is a beauty.POLO O : This lens works well with that type of photography. Very nice wide lens for crop sensor cameras.Jesse F : I've owned this lens for around a year. This lens is very sharp from corner to corner. 0-nil barrel distortion which you don't find in a lot of wide angle lenses. In my opinion it's as good or better than several higher end Canon lenses I have or have used. One of the best purchases I've made for my gear pack. It's my go to for landscape and architecture photo work.STEVEN J A : The angle of view is 104 deg. So it can fit a lot in the frame. It works well at shooting interiors and I use it to shoot 360 hdri panoramas. I can get fairly close (20-30’ away) to a 15 story building and nearly have the entire building from the top to the ground in the frame. This is also really great to shoot the Milky Way which is some pretty incredible architecture 😀
Shopper : Can you put filters on this lense?DONNA B : Absolutely - any 82mm filter.STEVEN J A : Yes, the front element glass doesn't stick out beyond the filter so any 82mm filter should work.POLO O : Yes you can, I believe it is an 82mm so they would be pricey but available.

I really recommend this lens

I am very much an amature but I have to say I really like this lens. I mounted it on my camera (D300s) and started taking pictures right away. The inside room shots are so much better than with my other lens. The clarity and the width are wonderful. I took it outside and I am really enjoying the field of view. The one thing I am going to have to adapt to is it gathers way more light than I am use to so I have to take that more into consideration. Buy it or test and buy it. I think you will enjoy it.

Excellent lens for use with the Canon R body for 4K video and stills.

I purchased this lens to use with my Canon R for 4 K video when I need a wide shot. The lens is very sharp for this type of zoom and the auto focus works very well. The color balance is pretty close to my other Canon L lens and I'm very pleased with the lens and recommend it for use with the Canon R.

Good Landscape Lens

Pretty sharp and I appreciate the extra stop of light for Astro shooting. I’m using this to hold me over with my D3300. Wish it came with an af/mf switch instead of the collar, but it works.

sharp but has autofocus issues on my camera

I ordered this 11-20mm f2.8 to replace my old Tokina 12-24 f4, which has been a great lens and given me a lot of great pics over the years but suffers from focal plane issues (left side of frame is in sharp focus but the right side is soft, or vice-versa). However, the 11-20mm has its own focusing issues, at least on my camera (Canon Rebel XTi). The autofocus is erratic, sometimes focusing at one distance and sometimes another, even when focusing on the same point. The lens is very sharp when it does hit the focus right, but too unpredictable on my camera. Also I like the color and contrast rendition better on my old 12-24. That's not to say this couldn't be a great lens on a different camera, if the autofocus works right.

Good kit with lots of extras

Lens seems fine. Extras with the kit were nice to get. Even though they are not top quality, it was nice to get a filter set to start protecting the lens instead of having to pay for one.

Just starting with it.

Just starting out with it. First wide angle lens below 28mm so still getting used to it. Build is good but lens cap has fallen off so doesn’t seem to fit too tightly.

SO pleased I cant stop jumping up and down.

This lens is amazing! Even wide open the images are sharp with little to no vignetting. ABSOLUTELY thrilled and Adorama delivered quickly and with no problems whatsoever. If you need a wide lense this is the one and if you need a Camera shop Adorama is the one!

Great lens at a great price

The Tokina ATX 11-20mm F/2.8 Pro DX Ultrawide Zoom Lens is a very nice lens and works well on my Nikon D7100. I've only begun to use the new lens but I am happy with the results so far. It seems sharp and works well in low light thanks to the f/2.8 max aperture. On a DX camera it has an equivalent zoom range of 16.5-30mm which I find is useful in tight spaces or when I want to capture wide outdoor shots. All in all it is a great addition to my camera bag and comes at a fairly low-cost compared to many wide angle lenses.

Great Lens for the price!

I haven't used the lens that much but I can already tell that it is so much better than my Nikkor kit lens. Usually the price for these kinds of lens can go well over a grand but for this Tokina lens it is worth every penny and more. Will definitely recommend!

Wide Angle

This is my first super wide angle lens. Just started shooting with the lens.Very sturdy, smooth. Takes some time getting used to the difference with my Nikon lens. This is my first Tokina lens and I am impressed. I have to wait and see the photos. Bought it for an upcoming trip.

Very Happy

I wanted a lens that was a constant f2.8, as opposed to the Nikon offering in this range. I've only taken it out once, but so far, I'm very happy with it. It works great for desert and mountain landscapes.

Great wide for landscape and real estate photos

I've used the lens a few times but have been impressed with the quality. I purchased the lens for real estate photography since point and shoots widest is 24mm. My clients were satisfied with being to get the entire room in a single shot without having a fisheye affect. I did have to use photoshop to correct some minor distortion in the corners but nothing major that the ave person wouldn't notice.

Best lens for astrophotography on APS-C

I bought this lens primarily for astrophotography with my Nikon D7200. While I could appreciate a wider lens, there isn't anything I've seen with this FOV and as little distortion. You also can't find anything this wide with as big of an aperture, at least in my budget. There's been a bit of chromatic aberration and barrel distortion, but it's easily fixed in Lightroom. I mostly use the manual focus, so I cannot comment on autofocus performance. Overall, I'm very pleased, and this lens stays on my camera most of the time.

My new favorite

I just can’t say enough good about this lens. Sharp as a tack, beautiful light transmission, feels solid and well built. Terrific sun beam effects. Adorama was a great vendor to deal with. This baby is going to spend a lot of time on my D500.

Picked up this lens upon many recommendations as the best UWA lens for DX. I used this out shooting the stars and milky way in the New Mexico desert and it did a phenomenal job.

My New Go-To!!

Easily one of my favorite lenses for an array of everyday shooting with my T6i! Night shots are exceptional with the f/2.8. Comes with a clutter of stuff which I have yet to use, but I can appreciate the thoughtfulness of freebies and great deal.

So far, so good

Honestly haven't had time to really test drive it yet. Nearly all shots have been inside as I work for an architect firm and have used it to take pics of our work. Can't figure out how to get the hood off the lens and haven't had a chance to read a manual or Google for an answer.

About Tokina ATX 11-20mm F/2.8

FEATURED REVIEWS

Excellent lens for the price. Solid build.

By Ken P.

I rented a wide angle lens for a week long trip over the summer and I chose the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8. I liked the results and the lens itself enough to consider buying a wide angle lens for myself and narrowed it down to the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, 12-28mm f4, and this new one. Based on the few reviews I could find, the 11-20mm f2.8 seemed to address some of the shortcomings of the older 11-16mm f2.8, and on sale it was within $20 of the 12-28mm, so I bought it. So far it has performed well, but ...

As sharp as a prime lens!

By Jana P.

This is a very sharp wide angle lens. Great for astrophotography, which is what I bought it for; but it performs wonderfully for landscape photography as well. This lens and my 50mm prime are my favorite lenses now.

The Tokina AT-X 11-20mm F2.8 PRO DX ultra-wide angle lens features an expanded telephoto zoom range and improved optical performance. The lens is designed for use with Canon DSLR cameras.

Tokina adds to its family of fast-aperture wide-angle zooms focused on providing photographers professional quality optics and construction at an affordable price. The fast F2.8 aperture lens offers an equivalent 16.5-30mm zoom range.

The 11-20mm has a new proprietary optical design that uses three aspherical lens elements (2 all-glass molded and 1 P-MO lens). Three SD (Super-low Dispersion: FK01 and FK03) glass elements achieves superior contrast and sharpness, and corrects for spherical aberrations.

This compact ultra wide-angle zoom lens has a bright, constant F2.8 aperture making viewing and auto focus possible in low light situations but still maintaining portable size and weight.

Tokina's exclusive One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the lens mount for manual focusing. The lens is also designed to stand up to the rigors of daily use by photographers in a wide variety of shooting conditions and environments.
