Review Summary

I purchased this filter after seeing great reviews for it on Youtube, it was consistently rated better than the more expensive filters, it was not until after the purchase that I noted in a couple of reviews that these filters although excellent are somewhat fragile, in one review it was recommended that the filter only be used in studio settings. I am still happy with the purchase, I am a still photographer that uses these filters in landscape photography often in somewhat harsh environments, mountain streams and waterfalls. Because I use this with Canon wide angle lenses I had purchased 105mm filters to go on lenses with 77mm filter threads using a step up ring to avoid vignetting, to solve the fragility problem I purchased somewhat inexpensive 105mm UV filters to protect the ND filters from the elements, I also purchased lens caps because Sigma makes a great lens cap for about $10 that fits the filters perfectly. I use a rear UV filter to further protect when not in use.

Under the meticulous craftsmanship of Kenko Tokina, the 112mm Cinema PRO IRND 1.8 Filter emerges as a paramount solution for cinematographers striving to achieve impeccable image quality. This filter ingeniously combines infrared pollution suppression with a 6-stop neutral density effect, ensuring that your high-end cinema camera captures scenes with the utmost precision and without the common pitfalls of color shifting.
The Tokina PRO IRND filter is engineered with Accu-ND Technology, which guarantees the meticulous control of light passage through the lens while preserving true color fidelity. This technology ensures that the visible color spectrum remains stable, allowing filmmakers to capture scenes with accurate colors straight out of the camera, thus minimizing the need for extensive color correction in post-production.
Designed to address the challenges faced by today's sensitive cinema cameras, which often lack built-in low-pass or IR cut filters, the Tokina PRO IRND filter steps in to maintain proper exposure without introducing infrared pollution. This is particularly crucial as cameras become more sensitive to light, necessitating stronger ND filters that can inadvertently lead to such pollution.
Available in both round and square/rectangular formats, the Tokina PRO IRND filter is versatile and adaptable to various shooting requirements. The round filter boasts a high-precision ND vapor deposition coating applied to both sides of the glass, ensuring a truly neutral filtering effect. The square/rectangular filter, on the other hand, features the ND coating sandwiched between two layers of glass, allowing for re-polishing in the event of scratches, thus significantly extending the filter's lifespan.
The Tokina PRO IRND filter utilizes a sophisticated manufacturing process that controls infrared light up to 1200nm, as opposed to cutting it from a specific wavelength. This method of suppression avoids the color shifts often associated with other IRND filters that cut infrared light, providing cinematographers with a reliable tool to achieve professional-grade results without compromise.
In summary, the 112mm Cinema PRO IRND 1.8 Filter by Kenko Tokina is a testament to the fusion of innovative technology and precision engineering, delivering a filter that not only manages light and infrared pollution with finesse but also upholds the integrity of the captured image's color. It's an essential tool for filmmakers who demand the highest level of control and quality in their work.
